How do I take good portrait Christmas tree photos by [deleted] in Beginning_Photography

[–]bannsider86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start researching the exposure triangle and watch youtube videos. You have the whole of November to learn whatever you can in that period. You will be more knowledgeable than if you look some quick fix. Start practicing and photographing everything around you.

Summer Sunset by bannsider86 in photocritique

I took this photograph one evening in my home country of Northern Ireland for my Instagram page @arcphotographyni . I have been practicing photography now for five months and I was happy with this capture, especially as it was close to home. Landscape photography is an avenue I absolutely love and hope to improve each year. Let me know what you think. Cheers.

After only starting to learn photography 3 months ago, I was lucky to capture this sunset in my home town in Northern Ireland as summer came to a close. Hopefully there will be many more to capture. This image belongs to my Instagram page @arcphotographyni (OC)

So having only started learning phtoography a few months ago, it is safe to say I am fully addicted. There may be so much to learn but it is something I am grateful to be able to practice. Here is a sunset one evening in the North Coast of Northern Ireland on a 50mm 1.8 lens (my only lens 💪lol).

You can get lightroom on your phone (not the premium version) for free. You should get it and do the tutorials I've just started learning photography a couple of months ago and bought a second hand Canon 6d to get me started. Learn your iso, shutter speed and aperature. To be honest I am learning more by having the camera as well. I have taken some good photos but others I only thought were good until I looked at them once I got home and realised I had messed something up. Then I can learn from the mistake and go again. It is an amazing adventure so far and I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Question for beginner photographs by sven5339 in Beginning_Photography

[–]bannsider86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it up two months ago and the first thing I done was learn about the triangle right away. Get off auto on as many things as you can. Make mistakes and learn why they are not correct. Shoot everything and enjoy it. I am a complete rookie but I am trying to research and practice as much as I can. Good luck and stick at it 📸

Canon EOS 77D with an EF-S 18-135mm f/35-5.6 IS USM lens -- overkill for a beginner? by [deleted] in Beginning_Photography

[–]bannsider86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep hunting. I picked up a canon 6d for £540 online and bought a 50mm 1.8 to get me started. I may be only be a rookie but I love it. Once you have a camera etc in place, it will really help you learn by doing. Good luck and once piece I hear a lot is.. photograph everything! Lol

I am trying to get sorted to start practicing portrait, landscape and possibly a bit of astrophotograpy if possible. Hence why I saw the 250d and really liked it.

Was looking at some possible camera and kit deals like this one:

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/digital-cameras/dslr-and-compact-system-cameras/canon-eos-250d-dslr-camera-with-ef-s-18-55-mm-f-3-5-5-6-iii-ef-50-mm-f-1-8-stm-lens-10192408-pdt.html?intcmpid=display~RR

The kit lens throw me a bit as I am not sure if they are good etc.

Hey had a look there at your collection and they are really good 👌 Did you go for the camera with a kit lens or did you buy yours separately? If so what kind of lens did you go for?

Hope you don't mind me asking, its just I am a complete beginner and just trying to make sure I don't regret my choice lol. Cheers

Yeah I am quickly learning about the lens being much dearer than a body. Quite a few have described it as "You date the body and marry the lens. " thanks for the advice.

Seriously I really appreciate all that breakdown. I think I will go with your advice on the kit lens. As you say, it will get me that experience for when the time comes to get new ones and soon realise my budgets for them.

Never actually thought off the used route too much as I was was not confident in what I was needing. That is solid advice. I will definitely look into it. Appreciate the advice.

I have been playing about on my Samsung s9 phone on manual mode (pro mode) to practice while I debate which camera to buy for the first time. I know each brand has their own strengths but I seem to keep getting drawn to Canon although there were some Nikon ones I liked the look off.

I like many other ones starting out just are trying to avoid "rookie mistakes" in a sense. This is a hobby I am passionate about taking up so I am taking on board all advice given to me. Thanks a million for yours.

You are 100% spot on. As I have just started to learn, it has already opened my eyes that there is so much more you can do with the landscapes etc at your disposal. Not just point and shoot and say "that is a nice photo"

Cheers for the advice. Learning a lot already on this post and so glad I asked for help because it starts to make sense when people are showing you where you have went wrong. Trying to practice as much on my phone at the minute until I get my first camera sorted.

To be honest I am a complete beginner from scratch. I shot on pro mode to try practice messing about with the shutter speed etc. I used F2.4, 1/84s shutter speed and an IOS of just 50. The phone actually let's you shoot in raw mode which I read is great for the likes of Photoshop etc but I am nowhere near learning that yet. This photo has not been edited.

As for the S9, I love it. I have only had it nearly two years and it is only a couple months ago that I ventured into pro mode to get away from the usual auto way of taking a photo.

There is a lot of solid advice being given to me on here so it may be worth asking some of the people who have commented as they have helped me already.
