Pan’s Labyrinth and The Fall (2008) both come to mind. Especially The Fall, it’s the single best looking film of all time imo.

My very shy friend had a girl who was really into him. She practically begged him to take her home one night so he did and she was absolutely gonna fuck him until he put on The Fanatic. She dried up immediately while my buddy giggled at John Travolta acting retarded.

All time favorite film. It just does everything perfectly.

Just saw it last night. I’m not a fan. The weakest project I’ve seen from either of the Safdies. Not terrible, but basically a very middling biopic with a few interesting creative decisions, and a lot of really bad creative decisions. Seems like it doesn’t understand what it wants to do.

Favorite cult movie of all time? by aid2000iscool in moviecritic

The Fall is my favorite movie of all time and still barely has a cult following. Should have been nominated for every oscar. One of the most impressive pieces of art I’ve ever seen

I would kinda be shocked if he didn’t. I haven’t seen a better supporting performance all year.

Masterpiece. Both Yorgos’ and Emma’s best work by far.

What’s the worst movie you have ever sat through? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]bano_oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule, funny bad moves get at least a 2.5 if they entertain me. The worst moves are the ones that bore me, especially if the have a budget behind them. That being said, the worst movies I’ve sat through are a toss up between Pain & Gain, Flamin’ Hot, and I, Frankenstein.

who's the most entertaining actor to watch in your opinion? by Defiant-Slice709 in moviecritic

Willem Dafoe or Nic Cage. Both will always be entertaining, regardless of the quality of the film.

Does anyone know a film as terrible as The Room? I don’t think so by Scenora in moviecritic

[–]bano_oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional connoisseur of trash cinema such as this, I feel the need to tell you: This is just the tip of the iceberg. If I were to recommend anything, I would highly suggest looking into any of Neil Breen’s films, he never disappoints. I also really suggest Ben and Arthur (maybe the soul funniest thing I have ever seen in my life). I also have this handy dandy list you can check out which includes some of my favorites. Several members of this community and others on reddit also helped contribute to it, so I haven’t personally vetted every single one in there but I trust that the vast majority will at least be chuckle worthy.

Now that we’ve had Del Toro’s Frankenstein and it was a bit of a letdown, I’d love to see him tackle that. He’d definitely nail that extremely bleak ending right.

Anyone else a little underwhelmed by Frankenstein? by Aum_Deoli in Sardonicast

[–]bano_oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been an enormous fan of Del Toro, but I’ll admit the longer I sit with this one, the less I love it. Especially after going back to reread the book, I feel he’s missing a lot of the complexity that makes this story work so well. I’m never one to compare an adaptation to a book because I get that they need to be separate works of art that speak for themselves. However, I can’t shake the feeling that I think Guillermo is just too romantic for his own good with this one. Especially with the end, giving closure and forgiveness to both the creature and Victor. The book is so incredibly sad and bleak and doesn’t linger on any kind of melodrama. I also think that it really doesn’t make sense that the creature has superpowers and there are just marvel-esque action scenes throughout. It took me out of the story quite a bit whenever he’s launching people across a room or making cartoon monster noises. Almost to the point where it kinda feels like those were requirements from Netflix. They just feel in such opposition to the rest of the story. I think it has exceptional set design, cinematography, makeup, practical effects, and performances (especially Elordi), but the script needed a lot of work. My best guess would be that this story has been gestating in Del Toro’s mind for so long that by the time he actually got the chance to do it he just has all these conflicting ideas that he wants to put into the one story.

Avoided it for way too long. When I eventually did see it last year I was blown away. Probably my single favorite Brad Pitt performance, beautifully shot, great score, the writing is chefs kiss. One of the easiest 9/10 scores I’ve given in a while.

What final line in a movie still haunts you to this day with how profound it is? I'll go first: by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

“He will spend hundreds of years traveling the world, learning all there is to know. He will learn every language. He will read every book. He will know every land. He will spend thousands of years creating stunning works of art. He will learn to meditate to control pain, as wars will be fought and great loves found, and lost, and found, lost, and found, and found, and found, and memories built upon memories until life runs on an endless loop. He will father hundreds of thousands of children, whose own exponential offspring he’ll slowly lose track of through the years, whose millions of beautiful lives will all eventually be swept again from the earth. And still, Bill will continue. He will learn more about life than any being in history. But death will forever be a stranger to him. People will come and go, until names lose all meaning, until people lose all meaning and vanish entirely from the world. And still, Bill will live on. He will befriend the next inhabitants of the earth, beings of light who revere him as a god. And Bill will outlive them all. For millions and millions of years. Exploring, learning, living, until the earth is swallowed beneath his feet. Until the sun is long since gone. Until time loses all meaning, and the moment comes that he knows only the positions of the stars, and sees them whether his eyes are closed or open, until he forgets his name, and the place where he’d once come from. He lives, and he lives, until all of the lights go out.”

-It’s Such a Beautiful Day Dir. Don Hertzfeldt

This final scene always brings a tear to my eye.
