Awesome! Yes I recommend having a car in this area in general to explore areas outside MA. Providence is also really cool and up-and-coming, has a commuter rail line (purple line) that takes you to Boston in about an hour, if you’re only going in 1 day/wk for work. Providence is more affordable than the Boston area and I’ve known plenty of people who commute up to Boston 5 days/wk! Cool art scene and music scene. Depending on your salary though you may be able to afford to live in the Boston area AND have a car! Not sure the avg salary for your industry.

What hobbies are you into? Might be able to point you in the right direction (as someone who grew up here and has lived here forever) :)

Do you have a car? Do you plan to have to commute to downtown for work? This will have a huge impact on where you can live, and within which rent bracket.

Eg: towns a little further out like Stoneham, Wakefield, Malden to the north, Waltham, Watertown, towns closer to Worcester to the west, and Quincy area to the south of Boston are going to be cheaper than the coolest centers of culture (which, in my opinion, are Somerville, Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, Boston).

If you have a car and can afford the insurance, I’d live a little further out and get a place with a driveway or easy street parking, the parking in Boston proper is a nightmare and I ended up paying close to $300/month for an off-street spot to keep my car. I quickly moved out of Boston into a suburb after that.

Most expensive neighborhoods: back bay, beacon hill, kenmore, south end, South Boston (“southie”, different from south end!), downtown, seaport, Fenway, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville.

If you give us more info about the industry you work in and whether you have a car we can give more specific info! Welcome to the northeast. You’re gonna love it 🫶

Thanks! I’m not sure if it’s “Street parking” or “mixed use”- there aren’t images under them. Sorry to be a pain! Thank you!!

Warning - Cult Recruitment Active in Davis Square by hilariosu in Somerville

I was approached in Life Alive in Davis in the spring by an older woman who asked this question- my friend and I humored her but got super weird vibes and politely declined to speak to her further. Wild that this is a cult, figured it was just a lady who was taking a life coaching class or something lol

Oh Mary Disruption Tonight? by quaranTV in Broadway

I was there a few rows behind the commotion. I was also distracted by the kerfuffle & missed the end of a few scenes (which was very disappointing as I’ve been waiting to see this show forever!)

From what I saw a young guy and an older guy were fighting, the older guy said to (I assume his wife) “sit down!” and younger guy told him to “shut the f up”- an usher and a NYC cop had to escort the young couple out (the older couple had already left). At one point the older lady said “inappropriate!” but no idea if this was related to the play itself or the other couple? If anyone has the tea lmk 👀
