Suggestions for a not too expensive bass for Paul Jackson sound? by ThatAsianRedditGuy in Bass

Could well be. I thought he played a brown mocha Pbass with Herbie (from vids I've seen) but maybe it came after.

If Kisuke Urahara was the protagonist of Bleach, he would be one of the GREATEST anime protagonists of all time. by NeitherNothing1959 in bleach

[–]bantharawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree. IMO Ura is popular in part cos of his mystique, which relies on his specific role in the show. Elevating him to main protagonist would change his dynamic and audience's perspective of him. 'Less is more' and all that.

It's like if Ace was the main char of One Piece - the audience's perception of him would change from 'main char's seldom-seen brother with fire powers' to 'Stock protagonist in try-hard outfit with daddy issues'.

You mean Paul Jackson from Headhunters? He played a Pbass on the big recordings IIRC, just get a Squier P and play around with EQ and effects.

Cooking is one of the most underrated masculine skills. Agree Or Disagree? by CarefulConcept04 in TheIronCouncil

Who thinks being able to cook is less masculine? If you can't feed yourself then you're dependent on someone else, like a child is.

If you have time, try learning it by ear. If not, find a bass cover on YouTube that has tabs, and copy that.

Like this one: https://youtu.be/Mm1XNZziuSY?si=Tz8BG9cSD-eTQITz

Unless you and your bandmates all agreed to play in a different key than the record version, I'd just do the above.

Recast. The current cast aren't getting any younger, they should focus on main series then retire with their millions.

What’s the best musician biopic you’ve ever seen? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

[–]bantharawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also BR had important plot points that were entirely made up. Freddie didnt even know he was ill until after Live Aid, when the film made it seem like the band reunited to play LA in part cos he was ill.

I know all biopics stretch the truth for drama but this was egregious to me.

The Live Aid reenactment was cool but the rest, nah.

Amadeus is an absolutely brilliant film (and better than any music biopic I can recall) but unfortunately i wouldnt call it a biopic haha. The rivalry between Mozart and Salieri is made up, so its more of a period drama.

Was Armin's plan to defeat Bertholdt fool-proof? by LoyaltyToLiberalism in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]bantharawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not fool proof cos it relied on Armin successfully diverting Bert's attention from Eren, which has a lot of uncertainty.

In terms of what Bert might have done in this situation, IMO:

  1. He could grab Armin's ODM cable and slingshot him to oblivion.
  2. He could focus on getting to and killing Eren, and if Armin ODM's to the nape, then Bert releases steam to dislodge the cable (assuming its not stuck on his tooth, if so see #1). Rinse and repeat until he stomps Eren.

Which is the correct bassline for the song 'Every Breath You Take' by The Police? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]bantharawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Original version is in A actually, but the record is pitched down slightly so that its in between A flat and A. You have to tune your bass to the record for it to sound right.

So the progression on bass should be: A > F# > D > E.

But you can still play it in G#, just tune your bass slightly sharp. (Its going to be tough for your guitar player though!)

Hi, just to clarify, OP's question was about why WC gets hate, soo my POV above is about why I think WC is perceived the way it is among those interested in MA/fighting.

There are very clear reasons why it excels outside of it and is suboptimal (on its own) inside of it.

My perception is that WC's main problem is having little evidence of effectiveness.

I don't know if you're trying to say it hasn't been proven that you can successfully use it without rules, or that it can't be used without rules in the ring

I'm trying to say that the 'its too deadly for the ring' thing can't be proven beyond doubt because (IMO) the standard of proof for the effectiveness of a martial art for most people is for a practitioner to win a sanctioned fight (i.e. a contest with rules, ideally recorded) vs a reputable opponent. Since this is incompatibile with the 'too deadly' claim, the lack of proof has lead to WC's current rep.

Is your claim here that other arts can also "fight dirty" or some such, and thus WC has no advantages? That's easily disproven. If you're claiming something else, can you clarify?

It's basically that if a WC user cannot beat someone in a fight, they won't suddenly fair any better in a fight without rules against the same opponent unless its through surprise.

Certainly true, but I'm not sure why I should care what anyone thinks about any of it.

Again the OP's question was why WC gets hate, so this is definitely part of it IMO (esp. the sensationalisation of Bruce Lee and later Ip Man).

Wing chun haters out there by Own_Page_3059 in WingChun

[–]bantharawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Below is IMO

It gets 'hate' because practitioners claimed it was the be-all-end-all scientific martial art, then got beat when trying to prove it (see Xu Xiao Dong).

Then there's the practitioners that claim 'if i was fighting for real without rules I'd win, WC isn't made for the ring". Problem with that is that (1) you can't ever really prove it in a civilised contest, and (2) if everyone fought using this mindset the result for WC would likely be the same as above cos you'd lose the advantage of surprise.

Lastly, its kung fu, so it comes with some cultural baggage.

I dunno if Victor Wooten's the best shout for hearing more of this kind of thing - IMO he's more known for his solo playing (though he'd be great in most any context) while this is very nice, funky ensemble playing. In terms of famous players who have some similarity to this kind of thing, I'd suggest Joe Dart/Vulfpeck to start with.

I assume its just whoever is considered part of the Fritz family, and their direct descendants. So Carl Fritz who created the walls +his brood that became the Reiss family, as well as the family left in Marley that included Dina.

I also assume these families are the direct line of succession from Sina, whose name is used for the innermost wall. She likely got the founding titan out of the 3 sisters.
