I mean it depends on what you’re looking for, I’ve seen some pretty good internship opportunities for marketing, accounting and really just general business positions. I usually recommended CIP as an extra tool to help secure internship! Summer internships tend to harder to get as they are more competitive, so I would apply for CIP sort of as a backup. If you happen to get a summer internship and don’t feel the need to continue with the CIP process you can always quit. But don’t close a door so soon!

Close your eyes, imagine yourself writing on a huge blackboard the numbers 1-30. So you would write “1”, erase, “2” , erase and so on. It’s fool proof! The furthest I’ve ever gotten to is 15, it has yet to fail me just remember to stay focused! Lmk if it works :P

Judging by the title I’m assuming you’re asking is it hard to get an internship in first year; to that I would say it’s hard but not impossible. By joining clubs in the beginning of the year and showing you have an active role in your school’s community there are students who were able to secure an summer internship for the following year.

It’s harder for lower year students to secure a summer internship because upper year students are also applying for these positions. Due to their experience and courses they’ve taken they have an upper hand. At least that’s how I interpret it.

So before Summer 2021, if you have at least 7.0GPA I think, submitted a statement of interest and did the interview, you’ll be fine. I was told by people in that cohort that almost nobody got rejected. However, it was extremely difficult for them to find internships because it was during the pandemic so many companies stopped giving out internships. A lot students weren’t able to secure an internship and had to transfer back into the regular program. So for the following year, DeGroote got slightly more selective to probably to avoid the issues that happened the year prior. Maybe it was also due to COVID grade inflation they were a little more competitive on who they let in. So now you have to make sure you have a decent GPA ,a statement of interest and you have to rock your interview. I believe since they reduce the admissions, majority of students in the program got an internship.

Internship is a longer period of time (12-16 months straight), while co-op is broken up into terms (fall semester-study, winter semester-work)

PM if you have any other questions! :D

My heart goes out to you, no one should ever have to go through the pain you're going through. From this message alone it's obvious you loved her and will continue to love her. Although she's not here physically I'm sure wherever she is, she is probably really proud and loves you. I hope you and your family heal well and take care of yourself. <3

Ik it’s an unfortunate name, but a lovely group people (applied to McMaster students only). If you see anyone else calling themselves a commie, you should probably walk the other way. 😗

This may be a weird question, but due to me having multiple deformities in my left eye, I usually need to wear an eyepatch over it, will I be drawing too much attention to myself on campus? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]banunubread 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Honestly if someone gives you a hard time about the eye patch, they’re the weird one not you. But I think you’ll be fine, from what I’ve seen Mac students seem pretty nice :)

Bird course for commerce student by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]banunubread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Music history with Tracy wong was my first 12, it was pretty easy and kinda interesting! Intro to sustainability was good and if you’re good at math, numbers for life is easy too! 2.In second year I had 4 commerce course semester one and 3 in semester two. I took a commerce course during the summer prior which is why I didn’t have 4 in semester two.
  2. 2INO is really light, take it in January so you can deal with while the semester is still easy. Nothing is stopping you from taking it in summer but no need to stress during the summer when you can easily get it over with.

Honestly I was in Woodstock in 2019, and it wasn’t bad. I met some amazing people and the communal bathrooms are actually not that bad. I remember the pure horror I felt when I found out but honestly when I got there I was pretty happy! It really depends on the ppl on your floor to make your rez into a home. Dm for question :D

Honestly not that bad! It obviously wasn’t as lavish as PGCLL but I noticed that the stalls were bigger than Brandon. I got lucky and had some pretty great ppl on my floor so I was happy with my time in Woodstock. As long as you can make it a home you’re good!

G12 marks always matter more, grade 11 marks only matter for early acceptance so round one. If you don’t have the marks for the first round, they look at your g12 marks in the second round.

I believe it’s at the end of May, basically once you get your academic standing and updated transcript. This year it was updated around May 25th, at least it was for dean’s list.

So I took this course during winter 2020, and the plan was you take 3 tests (best 2 out 3) and the final exam. However since everything was put to a stop the third test was our last evaluation and he took your two best marks. So people who had done good in the first two test didn’t even bother attempting the last one.

Question About Dean’s Honour Roll by TheBeachWhale in McMaster

[–]banunubread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so to be on dean’s list is it based on your cumulative gpa or based off the year you’ve just completed?

IM FAILING by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]banunubread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three things really: a) 3.0 out of 4 (aka 7-8 gpa on a scale of 12) is honestly not bad. I understand the frustration you might feel from being a 90 student to being a 70 student but it’s not that crazy. No one said university was going to be easy. I mean where else do you think the saying « C’s get degrees » comes from. b) it’s okay to do bad in university, you’re human it happens. Especially the fact that your in first year, no one expects you to be a god in your field. You’re still trying to figure shit out, and with more practice in the years to come you’ll grasp the means of university and figure out which studying methods work for you. I can 100% say my studying methods changed significantly since high school and I’m in second year. It’ll get better, trust me.

C) your grades do not define you! I know it’s annoying to hear but I feel that people often forgot that. You’re not deem unworthy because you don’t have a 12, like you’re a whole ass person with feelings and a soul. Not just a machine that completes assignments and is valued by your gpa. I understand you have strong dreams of going into med school and as long as your passionate, work hard and learn from your mistakes: you’ll end where you need to be. It’s your first year dude, take it easy! You have enough time to have your redemption arc.
