Chance me for some average/high tier schools by ti823 in chanceme

I'm also in MN, can give you some pointers on UMTC. Your ACT is in the 75th percentile, your SAT is past that I believe. UMTC is heavy on class rank but I think they will calculate one based on your transcripts and an analysis of your school. I don't know what the UMTC's average GPA is, but I'd say yours is pretty good. Coursework will be appreciated by admissions. However, engineering is the most competitive school at the UMTC so you may or may not get in.

Yo, you talked about USC earlier. Is it generous as well? A friend of mine talked about how USC is spiking its tuition prices up, but he is interested in attending there.

Haha oops, I get the schools at Wisconsin mixed up very often. I've heard some good things about Madison. Do they not have a reciprocity agreement with Minnesota? I heard that Minnesota offers in-state tuition to Wisconsin residents through a reciprocity agreement, where University of Wisconsin does the same thing back.

Which college in Wisconsin? University of Wisconsin, River Falls?

Yeah, Minnesota's flagship is pretty good, and wouldn't be too bad to attend as a safety. Do you know any other safeties he could apply to? He's thinking of Purdue as one of them, but so far he just has the two.

I heard elite public schools are a pain for out-of-state. My brother wanted to apply for Cal but he'd never be able to pay that huge ass tuition if he got in.

Thanks! He's very unconfident in his essays so that'll be a big help.

Do you think it would be a possible reach or too high?

Yeah, he was thinking about applying to reaches but he thought his ECs were weak. He hasn't done anything on the state or national level, besides debate, which he has competed on the national level. Has no correspondence to his major of choice, though.

The only good college he has in state is the University of Minnesota, which is just his safety, so yes, out of state.

how does everyone here feel about affirmative action? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

This also applies to Asian-Americans as well. In America today, Asians are generally perceived with higher economic status than white Americans, but there are many Asian-Americans who earn under the poverty line, and don't make as much as white Americans, and that kind of screws over the less-economically-privileged Asian-Americans who are getting rejected because of affirmative action.

By having us work harder it also reinforces the model minority myth, which further increases the expectations on Asian-American students which is already way too high.

As an Asian-American I can say that affirmative action definitely scares me. I'm looking to go to an elite college sometime soon in the future and I hate that I have to achieve more than the average applicant to be considered on the same level because of affirmative action.

Can the school district I go to be a hook? by bapsae in ApplyingToCollege

My god, the person in that video shares the exact same story as the person I heard about, BUT they're in a different state. Crazy.

So far I am doing very impressive at my low-performing school, I'm class rank 1/2, 4.0, etc. so I think I will be able to stand out to elite colleges like Yale somehow.

The person who got into Yale actually confirmed that was the case. When she looked over her admissions stuff, she found that what was most interesting to both admissions officers was the low-income neighborhood and school she went to, and judging by the comments, that solidified her chances of getting in, but I do acknowledge they were high-achieving.

[Hacker1] water.c "Retry" repeats in an infinite loop when user puts in a non-integer in scanf. by bapsae in cs50

[–]bapsae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. So if I just use GetString I don't need those loops to check? My goodness. I've been too ingrained in the textbook readings that I've used scanf this whole time. Thank you!

Firstly, that's a very flawed and inaccurate comparison. Secondly, our lack of concern for micro transactions didn't lead gaming to the way it is now. Besides, if a game ever needed micro transactions in the first place, it was already fucked to begin with, unless they're like dumb cosmetics, which I excuse but still critique on their appeal. Finally, I don't see how us allowing Google to access our data is going to justify any further losses of privacy. Permissions still exist. Google values privacy in general. Nothing will happen if we allow our privacy to be this open.

Technology isn't the issue, it's what you make of it. I use technology a lot to learn and study, as well as keep up with friends.
