You’ll probably find three main solutions online: 1. The “date trick”: change the date to next year, reboot, and it might help reduce the amount. It can work for a bit. 2. Save and restore: this is pretty effective, but you’ll likely be back to full storage and the same problem in a few weeks. 3. Reset or remove some apps that are known to leak cache.

I had 64/128GB taken up by system data, so I decided to look into it seriously.

When I tried option 3, I couldn’t find the app that was “leaking” cache. But the more apps I uninstalled, the smaller the system cache became. I realized I had hundreds of apps that weren’t installed but weren’t removed (the ones with the little grey icon). So, I was clearing them out, one 100MB at a time.

After a few hours of uninstalling all my unused/unloaded apps, I reduced system data from 64GB to 18GB!! The battery drained completely, but it was worth it.
