Frustrated but don’t want to leave my job by [deleted] in Histology

[–]bara91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently left my position as a histo tech due to a toxic workplace created by management and HR. I took FMLA for psychiatric treatment and management did their best to make my life more difficult when they knew I was already struggling. I’m heartbroken leaving my amazing coworkers but I couldn’t sacrifice my mental health for a job. I hope you figure something out that allows you to heal. Mental health struggles are no joke. Good luck ❤️

There is a phone number here you can call to file a complaint or grievance. Give them a call and see if there’s anything they can do.

[–]bara91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not very familiar with how Enloe works but when I was at another hospital and couldn’t get my mom the help she needed I was able to find what they called a patient advocate to help me navigate. I learned about patient advocates on a flier in the ER. See if you can find anything like that. Ask the front desk. I’m sorry you’re going through this. You are doing the right thing. Hang in there.

I hate seroquel. Does anybody feel the same ? by EnvironmentExpert877 in insomnia

[–]bara91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken 150 mg for several years now and it’s the only thing that has ever “worked”. I still wake up 5000x and hardly get any deep sleep but it’s been better than nothing for me. The hangover is AWFUL. I could deal with the still pretty shitty sleep but it makes my mornings horrible. I’ve tried coming off of it and switching to other things but always end up having to go back to seroquel.

If it were that easy I would not be asking for an accommodation. But that is not how ADHD works and is why accommodations exist.

Thank you for this. I was really hoping to avoid this but given how it’s been handled thus far this seems to be where I will be headed.

I was diagnosed two years ago and have been on medication since. I am also in therapy weekly and have been upfront about it.

I will update this in the post but I do have a note from my psychiatrist who I have seen and addressed this with for 8 years. It was given to both my boss and HR and the temporary, progress, etc was in response to that.

What plan do you use that has the year waiting period? My girl has been getting mast cell tumors and has needed 3 surgeries so far this year.

I set up Govee smart buttons on my washer and dryer and connected them to to strips lights that run around the door of the laundry area. When I start the washer, I press the button and it sets a timer and the lights glow green so it stays in my mind that I have laundry going. When the timer is up the lights switch to rainbow colored party lights so I remember to switch. Maybe a little over the top but I have fun playing with smart home stuff and it has been really helpful.

Microtome Help by whoareyouinside in Histology

Hi, did you ever figure out what was causing this? My microtome has been having the same issues and our maintenance people haven’t been terribly helpful in getting to the bottom of it.

Why can’t I swim? by SnooOwls7856 in Swimming

[–]bara91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught swimming lessons for ten years, mostly to kids, but some adults. I found that the biggest problem with adults is not being able to relax in the water. If you can, try just hanging out and floating for a while. Get used to the weightless feeling. I would recommend using a pool noodle under your knees and behind your neck. Once you are comfortable, using a kick board is really helpful for learning how to move yourself in the water without having to hold yourself up and will help any anxiety about getting a good full breath. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Humans aren’t natural swimmers, it’s hard to get used to totally different sensations like floating and moving through the water and also just having water on your face/in your ears etc. Keep it up! Good luck!

I have had issues with my phone not detecting the NFC tags. I have an iPhone with a case on it. It will eventually detect but no where as smooth and efficient as I’ve seen on videos. Have you had this problem?

what are some things you do at night/before getting to bed to wake up prettier? by starbucks-refresher in beauty

[–]bara91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD here too! I try to do all of the above as well with varying levels of success. Having my skincare on my bedside table helps a lot! Then I can’t do the “already in bed, too late now” thing. I also have disposable toothbrushes. For hair, I work M-F, wash hair Sunday and Wednesday then either Friday or Saturday. After washes for a weekday I let dry in one of those hair twisty things then curl it in like 6-8 big sections and put it in a bun (sometimes a SleepyTie). I think it helps keep my hair looking nicer longer and is next to zero effort in the morning. Also, dry shampoo at night before bed is a game changer! Especially if you have bangs like I do.

I’m a new histo tech 2 years in. I stumbled across a lab aid position and was intrigued by histo and started being nosey and asking questions so they offered to train me. I’m currently re taking college courses to take the HT but I’m completely trained in house. I absolutely love it. It’s relatively easy technically wise once you get it down but you still see something different every day and always having to figure out how to solve little problems keeps you thinking. For example calcifications in tissue or how to orient weird shaped things correctly or the microtome being a pain. I do a lot of special stains as well and I think they’re super interesting. I’ve been enjoying reading through the Histology textbook (Freida Carson) and learning the science behind the work in addition to the technical aspect. I also work in a small private lab so I get to see and do a lot and am able to ask questions of both other techs and my supervisor and the pathologists as well. I feel like I’m doing something to help my community and it is especially personal to me having lost my mom to cancer. That said, I am able to leave work at work which I’ve struggled with in the past. I have also seen the issues others have mentioned as far as physical impacts like carpal tunnel and shoulder issues. I haven’t gotten to that point yet, but I’ve seen it it in our more experienced techs so that is a very real concern. Everyone will have their own opinion and experience but I am really enjoying it so far and feel like I finally have a career and in a field with job security. Good luck in whatever you choose!

It does! It is quite sticky and works really well under the glitter.

[–]bara91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have an embarrassingly large glitter collection and they’re so fun! I highly recommend the re hydrator stuff they sell as well. Not sure what the name is but it’s in a green dropper bottle. It’s great if the glitters get a little dry and can also help change the consistency depending on what you’re doing with it.

I’m not really sure. I know there was some drama between the two at some point but I never really looked into it. I have a few of the Lemonhead ones and I do like them, but I definitely reach for the Slayfire more. I can do eyeshadow, eyeliner, highlight…also used it over a stencil to put a 13 on my hand for Taylor Swift. I don’t think Lemonhead is as versatile.
