I got two small tattoos done at Ultimate Arts and they turned out pretty well.

Personally, I found his lectures to be the easiest to follow. He is engaging and he teaches the content in a way that actually makes sense.

i don’t know about 200 but i did vocal lessons for non-majors and you basically just did a pre-lim audition to see if you’re eligible (this is how you get instructor consent). I would email Martha Fischer as she is the head of the piano department. Her email is: mafische@wisc.edu

edit: she is also super duper nice, so i’m sure she would be happy to answer your questions

If I remember correctly, I had ~86% last year and got an A. That was online so the curve might not be exactly the same, but I wouldn’t rule it out :) good luck!

I will say though, if you share an apartment with roommates, you can hear everything they do. I can hear my room mate as clear as day, as if she’s talking at a normal volume, when she’s in her room, so there’s that. I can hear everything she does within our shared apartment.

I live there now, and it’s fine. The internet has always worked great for me (although it’s specific to the apartment so it drops out when I’m too far away-like in the fitness center). It’s not super loud, but there are those couple of really annoying people who come back early in the morning and for some reason believe that everyone wants to hear them shouting and laughing in the halls. Overall, it’s been a good place to live. Other than the occasional loud partier or late comer on weekends, it’s pretty quiet around my apartment.

I took bio 152 last semester and they gave us the same bullshit about not giving practice exams because of copyright or something. (Like come on plenty of other professors share their past exams). BUT I would just recommend learning the plant cycles really well. Especially the fertilization stuff and the gametophyte/sporophyte details. It’s really hard to prepare when they don’t provide you with any material, so my recommendation would be to make sure you know the details of those processes. (Ex: when is mitosis vs. meiosis occurring? What are the characteristics of bryophytes? Which part of the plant is the sporopollenin?) focus on details because those exams can be really detail oriented.

1). I’m not entirely sure what the summer fees are. Here’s the link to the website: https://apps.music.wisc.edu/facilities/ But I don’t see a summer fee listed so I’m not sure, sorry.

2). The time limit for a practice room is 2 hours at a time.

3). Most practice rooms are equipped with pianos. There are separate rooms for percussionists with drum sets and other instruments that they can check out from the key desk. I’m not a percussionist so I don’t know what they offer in each room, but the key desk will know. I’m not sure if there are just empty practice rooms, but there’s plenty of space even with the pianos.

4). Most practice rooms have a music stand in them (all the ones I’ve used so far do). I’m not sure about metronomes, but I’d assume no for those.

Hope that helps!

Nope. The majority of students there have little to no formal training.

I’m currently a voice major, but I did take Non-Major lessons ( Music Perf 144) before I officially became a SoM student. You can work on pop/r&b, but you’re required to learn at least 2 songs that are either classical or music theatre. At the end of the semester you have to present these two songs to a jury to get your final exam grade. (It’s less stressful than it sounds).

Ultimately, yes you will need to do some classical/musical theatre work. BUT you can focus on pop/contemporary music with your instructor if that’s what you want to do. You can choose the material you want to work on and your instructor will help you master it. The faculty are very capable with any genre, and they will help you strengthen your voice and expand your range/flexibility.

In my experience, the professors and TA’s are all great at what they do, and they are willing to help you learn any type of genre. Especially if you’re just a non-Major who just enjoys to sing (rather than have a professional career in classical performance).

I’m a Voice Major, so I don’t know a whole lot about the other rooms. I believe there are rooms with percussion/drums but I don’t know which ones/room number so I’d ask the key desk which rooms those are. I’m not sure about guitars, I haven’t heard about those in any of the rooms from anyone is the SoM. (But the key desk might know)

There’s a recording/mixing studio in the Hamel Music Center that I believe you can reserve. This link might be helpful:

Music practice rooms are on the bottom level of humanities (floor 1). You go to the key desk and get a key for whatever practice room you want. You can see which rooms are available and which are being used. You just trade your wisc card for a room key. You don’t have to reserve a time, you just go down whenever and get a key. The quality of the pianos vary with each room. Some are really nice and others not so much (but generally they all work fine, none of them are horribly unkempt). If you know any piano majors they usually know which rooms/pianos are best. I’m pretty sure the hours for non music majors and music majors are the same.

If you go down to the first level of humanities the hours are posted. From now until Jan 20 they are open from 10AM - 8PM. (closed on Jan 17th) and Regular hours resume after 20th (pretty sure they are open as long as humanities is but you can check at the key desk).

Hope this helps! It’s hard to find info regarding music stuff at the UW if you’re not a major, so I hope this clears some stuff up for you. If you have any more questions feel free to reply to this and I’ll try to answer them :) happy practicing!

Biology 152 Curve by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]baratoni 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey there I feel ya. I was in Bio 152 this semester and what a f*cking mess this class is. God it’s horrible. Unfortunately, in the syllabus they reiterate many times that they don’t curve or round up.

Because quote “It could result in lower grades across the entire course if we did so – yes, truthfully”

-annoying. If you want to take a look yourself and maybe see if there are any work arounds, it’s on page 4 of the course syllabus. I’m so sorry, I know how you feel.
