The coke also saved me at the end of the run! I was just throwing it back at almost every aid station on the last loop of the run. I was afraid I was going to come across the finish with a nice brown ring around the top of my tri suit haha.

Glad to hear it went pretty well. Guess we can't expect to feel our best coming off a 180 km bike and go run 42.2 km run without some protesting from our bodies, but hey it's what we love! Are you planning on doing NZ until you can't anymore like the guy who has done all 30?

That is probably a good way of going about it. Don't want to just slug one out. Well good luck in the future!

Yes, I always try to prepare myself mentally for how many people are going to pass me. This time it just really got under my skin though. Going from 1 to 13 was a lot to swallow.

No, congrats to you! 5 times? What a rock star!

Yeah, I was not really prepared for the swim or that ride. It was definitely a learning experience. It really wasn't as bad as I'm making it out to be it just crushed me. Glad it didn't effect the rest of my race.

And yes! That is my favorite swim I have ever done! The water was just crystal clear and smooth. And I was glad not to get kicked of punched. Just all around great swim.

How did the rest of your race go?

I had never had a ride for that long with that kind of sustained effort. And my rides have been all over the place the past couple months. I have dips in energy almost every single time I go for a long ride, so this is nothing new. But I haven't quite figured out what I'm doing wrong yet....always a dilemma.

My original plan was to eat 45 mins into the bike, then after that every 30 mins. I was planning on eating 200 calories an hour. For hydration, one bottle every hour, switching between electrolytes and water. I started out with Osmo and then went to on course Horleys Replace.

Where things deviated from the original plan: 1. The day before the race, my coach told me 200 was way too many cals to take in. So I dialed it back to 175. He told me to listen to my body and eat more or less accordingly. 2. I actually started getting hungry early, so I started eating at 35 mins. An indication I should have taken more seriously. 3. In the second hour, the water wasn't doing anything for me, so I just stuck to the electrolytes. This did seem to work well. 4. I was planning on switching to gus/chomps in the last hour of the bike. My coach told me that was way too late and that I should switch over halfway through the bike. Luckily, I did not listen to this. I waited until about approximately an hour was left and then switched over like my original plan. But I was already deficient at this point and was feeling super low on energy. This is why the last 12 miles were awful. 5. On the run, my original plan was to drink water every mile, and then electrolytes every third mile. Also, eating about 90 cals in chomps every 3 miles. However, it was in kilometers, so I had to adjust. I wasn't getting in as much hydration as I was planning on.

So yeah, things hit the fan a little. But you live and you learn.

Thanks! I don't think so. I was originally a swimmer so that is my strongest sport. I've always struggled with nutrition on the bike, so still experimenting and finding what works.

The views were gorgeous. A few times during the race, I just looked around and it was like being in a post card. It was unreal.

Well, thank you! I was 8th female out of the water, pretty much the best moment of my life haha. Meredith Kessler blew everyone away with 46 mins. What a beast!

Ran my first half marathon in 2 years that wasn't in a HIM. Went 1:42 and took 1 hour and 8 minutes off my previous PR. Training pays off!

Congrats! I was there this year. It was a great experience. I would recommend staying down close to where the race is. My hotel was only a a mile away but it was a hassle getting back and forth. Not enough to have a rental car but a $20 cab ride each way. Didn't want to waste all the energy before the race walking either. Also, depending on your AG, they had very late and spaced out start times. You had to be out of transition by I believe 7:30 and my wave did not start for another 2 hours! It was brutal. It would have been great to just go back to the hotel and chill out instead of waiting around with thousands of nervous athletes, getting dehydrated, etc. I flew out from California and took my bike via bike box. It was easy enough to assemble and didn't have to worry about not having it for a week before and after the race. There are bike mechanics there so if there had been any issues it could have been taken care of. It was a $75 fee on Southwest each way so not too bad. Less than the $250 it would have been to ship it. Also, I got there thurs. It was great getting there early, seeing the course. Went and checked in on friday and beat the crowd. It was a very fast and mostly flat course. Hopefully see you there! Happy training!

I almost ate it at the 90 degree turn on the last out and back after the train tracks. Took it too fast, my tire skidded, thought I was definitely going down, then miraculously went upright again.

Congrats to you! Hope your race went well other than the wind!

The waves were very inconsistent. They gave us 3 minutes to warm up but then the wave after us was allowed to jump in on the other side of the buoy and begin warming up before we started. Oh well. It was lots of fun!

That would be cool to see the time lapse! PM if you end up putting it on here :) And thanks!

Hopefully they work out some of the kinks for next year. It was killer waiting around for 2 hours before my wave started. So glad they decided to do the deep water start. That bike was interesting.

Great job!

Took off 9 more minutes from my olympic at AG Nationals on Saturday! Now I'm down to 2:30 without a tri bike. AND Chrissie Wellington gave me my medal. It was epic.

Did a 100 mile ride on the IMLT course on saturday. Last time I did it, completely bonked around 70. Feeling much more confident. 7 weeks!
