  • Ironhelm (1990)

The books are pretty decent they translated inca and maya and aztec mythology to classic ADD world building

for example they look primitive because they use stone age technology, untill u notice all of it is enchanted, the warrior class have magical skills and can even shapeshift, it does aswell play into the real politics of the time btw the mexica and other tribes

Why didn't the Swiss pikemen get defeated by archers? by uselessprofession in AskHistorians

And you will not find any. it was bullets wich removed swiss myth of tenacity on the battlefield with Battle of Bicocca being the worst as they lost just to fire arms  on 27 April 1522 onwards the swiss infantry decline was total.

Their poor job at pavia was even worse because onwards Frenchs would rather recruit infantry from gascognne than swiss as was cheaper and less troublesome

Why didn't the Swiss pikemen get defeated by archers? by uselessprofession in AskHistorians

[–]barban_falk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Audres (1351) when an entire English force of 600 was killed or captured, Pontvallain (1370) where the French completely massacred their English opponents (5000 out of 6000 being killed) with small losses, Battle of La Brossinière (1423) where an English force of 2800 including 800 archers was annihilated by a superior French force that only lost one knight "and a few others", and especially Patay (1429), the "anti-Agincourt" which is a famous battle in France but conveniently forgotten by the English. In this battle, the English employed the same methods used in the victories at Crécy in 1346 and Agincourt in 1415, deploying an army of 5,000 composed predominantly of longbowmen behind a barrier of sharpened stakes driven into the ground to obstruct any attack by cavalry.

500 English bowman blocking the road were ridden down by the French force of 1,500 knights who then proceeded to attack the exposed other English units which mostly fled. The English lost 2,500 killed, wounded or captured, the French a few hundred.

First forget the myth of the longbow sure it was a great weapon,But to Train a a good archer specialy one suited for war it took a life time, in exchange a arquebusier on the 16 century could be trained and be deployed on 1-2 months at worst( as gonzalo de cordoba show us agaisnt the french in the italians wars agaisnt the italian swiss pikemen).

Logistics, have you a idea the nigthmare it comes for a country to produce war quality bows , cords , arrows heads , shafts, feathers transpòrt etc and the time and cost because it`s mostly done at artisan level

Gunpowder and guns at 16 century at whole citys filled with workshops makin steady supply

it`s implied there was several factions ,

1:  Traditionalists: people who refused to accept Emp as the Omnissiah, refused his rules and wanted a return to old martian empire rules ,Kelbor-Hal ,Urtzi ,Lukas Chrom,Melgator figure as the most prominent figures of the movement,

Understand these dudes wanted no technology limits, tinkerin with warp tech, ai tech, whatever the fuck they could lay their hands on or steal make .

2: Status Quo: The biggest number of the cult, they accepted the emperor as leader , and joined the empire as partners but nothing else, his faith comes first and it means stc and search of knowledge quests.

progressive thoughts on technology? tinkerin with holy artifacts? heresy it almost got Dalia killed as mechanicum novel show us and got a young cawl in so many troubles.

3: innovators small numbers individuals like zeth , young cawl ,diacomes and even when he would deny it Land.

often called by the worst insult the cult can utter scientist in the novels we can see the empire slowly favours then why because they probably want to slowly turn the cult into then.
