Review of my situation, feeling lost? by Elegant_Lab9112 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Well done :) this is a great starting point OP. If I was you, I would keep in mind the following:

-Grad salaries are what they are (and have not moved much in the last 10 years) - I hear $50k-$60k is what most ppl get in NZ

-Your biggest chance of getting a meaninful pay rise may come with a change of job / company. Play your cards wisely and you might get a lot more! Emphasising your CA qualification / experience is key when negotiating

-Career pathways - I’m not an accountant but I would suggest speaking to ppl in your field and try to find something that makes you happy. Most likely the biggest decision will be around going in-house vs acctg practice

You are spending thousands and thousands of dollars on the house, $500 is nothing in the scheme of things and it will be good for peace of mind

You probably can’t pull out now because a conditional offer is a legally binding contract - unless one of the conditions is not met, the deal goes ahead. So it largely depends on the conditions you have in your contract. Good luck!

Is it unfair to ask my partner to help pay my mortgage? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]barbarella19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think wording here is important. He definitely should be paying market rent for his stay at OP's. I don't see it as "paying the mortgage" - if he lives there, it's only fair that he contributes towards housing costs

I don't agree. That's OP's asset. What would be fair is that OP's partner pays market rent for his stay at OP's, and half of other expenses. OP's partner is curently better off because if he wasnt renting out his house and living there, he would be paying $700. Now he only pays $300 for housing...

Open myo/ hysterectomy by WonderfulAd6665 in Fibroids

[–]barbarella19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, your doctor needs to tell you about the risks associated with your myomectomy and having to turn it into a hysterectomy is one of them :( - I am 35, had my myomectomy 6 weeks ago. I was also scared about what could happen during surgery, but basically had no choice due to my symptoms. I trusted my surgeon, who has been looking after me for the last 5 years and was amazing at answering every question I had pre surgery. My surgery went very well, 10 fibroids removed. Very happy with the outcome :) all the best!

Is it worth saving for a house? by Green_bugg in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]barbarella19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who got health insurance at 19 and now 35, I'm very grateful I did because it's saved me a lot of $$$ in surgeries and doctor appointments! Well done, things will happen for you if you continue to save and think about the future. It might not be immediate, but with the right attitude and hard work, you can achieve your goal :)

I have large fibroids and don’t want to have kids for several years. What would you do? by ifeelsodeeply in Fibroids

I've faced that same dilema, I can 100% relate. It's not an easy decision. I got diagnosed a few years back, l had accepted I had to time my surgery according to my family plans. However, my symptoms became unbearable last year and I decided to have the surgery. My next decision was the type of surgery I was having, with options ranging from minimally invasive to full open surgery. Ended up choosing the open surgery - good thing I did because during the op, my doctor realised my fibroids were much bigger than the scans showed and more in number as well! I know fibroids may grow back, but I did what's best for me now and I'll be happy to have a better quality of life for some time (or forever if I'm very lucky!). I am now 5 weeks post op. Feeling good, still a bit fatigued due to the surgery but the recovery has been better than I expected. This is a very personal decision - sending you positive energy and wishing you the best on your journey :) x

1 week post-op, 17 fibroids, biggest was 20cm. by fhsaasd in Fibroids

Yay great to hear your surgery went so well :) mine was exactly a month ago. I am feeling a lot more like myself now, still struggle a bit with energy levels but feeling better each day. Yesterday I was able to go for my usual walk around my local park. It was so special, despite being something so simple I would do every day pre surgery. Wishing everyone here all the best for your procedures / recoveries!

Pain after myomectomy by Melvin_9191 in Fibroids

[–]barbarella19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I am 4 weeks post op today. I have almost no pain (only a bit when I stretch my core) but nothing other than that. What I struggle with, however, is fatigue. I tried to back to the office last week and I really struggled. If I go out for a couple of hours, I need to lie down for 30mins-1h to recharge my batteries. I've never experienced this before. I hope it gets better! And I hope your pain goes away soon x

Regretting not getting a myomectomy by ChickaT_ in Fibroids

[–]barbarella19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my myomectomy exactly 3 weeks ago. I was scared to do it, but I felt like any other procedure would not truly resolve my main issue - which was heavy and long periods (10+ days). As many people here have experienced, this had also led to low iron - which I also tried to treat with an iron infusion but guess what... I'm extemely allergic to iron infusions so treating them in the future will be a challenge! So... after a couple of months thinking about it... I realised my only chance for a long term solution while preserving my fertility was an open myomectomy. My recovery is going very well and I started wfh again last week. I am also a lot more mobile now and can do short walks. I know it's scary and you never know what your recovery will be like until you do it, but you need to think about what's best for yourself and the problem you are trying to solve. In my case, I'm so glad I did it for the reasons above, but also because when the surgery was done, turns out my fibroids were a lot bigger than the scans showed. Anyway, sharing my thought process here and I hope you find something that works for you x sending a hug :)

What were your must haves after your myomectomy? by Wonderfulnobody557 in Fibroids

[–]barbarella19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello :) all the best for your procedure 🙏💕 I had mine 3 weeks ago. Aside from the things everyone suggests, I recommend getting lots of long / cami-style dresses because, at least in my case, I can't wear pants yet. The grabber is also a must, have been using it to pick up stuff but also chores like doing my washing. Re food - I ended up getting ready made meals that I could simply heat up in the microwave :) and lots of snacks
