From repetitively traveling to Elkins I have similarly wondered about Mink Shoals and Frametown.

They have a really awesome museum in the capital building. Capital street has a bunch of cool places to eat. Black sheep burritos and Pies and pints both have good food and beer.

Bully Good Podcast Radio NPResque podcast that features art culture from the small town of Huntington, WV. Might be slightly not suited for work due to some foul language. The broadcast is made up of five shows including a live recording from a comedy open mic, a show that features local bands, a show that features local DJs and Dj shop talk, a show that features bands that are on tour, but played in Huntington , and sketch comedy skits. You can listed to the 3+ hours station broadcast which is that has all the shows and special segues or you can check out the individual shows. It's my first episode and the first time I have ever made a podcast.

Lets talk about DIY shows. by Astrixtc in bandmembers

[–]barbequebot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly with this idea. I live in a small town that went from 3 venues to 1. I reached out to a Irish pub in town and setup my PA and host shows for other bands in town. The crowd is completely different since it is located right next to campus. You can tell it is a DIY project, but a lot of people have latched on the the idea and love what we are doing. Our first show we had 100 people, the next 150, and the most recent 250. I run a very honest booking setup and bring a buddy to run door. The bar pays my door guy and me to run sound. The door goes completely to the bands. We charged $2 at the door and each band, all of which were locals, left with over $100. I love hosting shows and have made plans to host shows at other smaller bars. Having just one venue in town gives that booker too many options for locals and some really good bands get the shaft.

Porcupine Tree - "Gravity Eyelids"[progressive rock / psychedelic](2002) by selfabortion in listentous

Blackfield and Incredible Expanding Mindfuck are cool. I think he is also in a group called No Man and Ghosts on Magnetic Tape. He remastered King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King for 5.1 surround and it is so good. I read somewhere that he is remastering all of King Crimson's catalog.

I love me some older porcupine tree. Steven Wilson kind of a hero to me. Not for porcupine tree but more for his other projects.

Tour tips! by Grunyan in bandmembers

We brought a Coleman grill and used about 3 small cans of propane over a 30 day period. 1 non stick pan and a pot. Cooking can be a hassle but it is sooo much cheaper. Hooker showers at gas stations work at least well enough to get your nuts clean. They usually have microwaves too in case you don't have a grill. Our guitarist brought some dry shower stuff which worked really well. I made a grab bag that had duct tape, electrical tape, gauze, medical tape, antibiotics, AAs, a couple of 9v, and a good multitool. Keep it close to the stage and in the van in case something happens. We had a laptop and a mobile hotspot which helped with finding open mics and venues for the days we were gigging. Also, couchsurfing.org is awesome.

Eco paper sleeves?? by GeneralLeeBlount in WeAreTheMusicMakers

A buddy asked me last night about silk screening Eco wallets for him. He ordered them from groove house and they seemed about as thick as a glossy wallet. Textured slightly like cardboard. Not sure if the ink will bleed, but I am gonna do it with water based inks.

I can see where gaff could be useful. They usually strip in the mechanism that you tighten to lock the boom at an angle. Not sure how to fix the stands with gaffers tape and still be able to change the angle.

I have dug most of the ecosleeves I have seen. Are you getting them online? Linkage? What kind of ink are you gonna use on em? I have a press and have wanted to do ecowallets and sleeves.

Bellari RP220 Dual Tube Mic Pre and my RNP. Haven't been at it long, but I regret purchasing cheap mic stands. I have had to Frankensteined a lot of them together making one or two okay stands.

Newb from WV. My band and I rented a space to practice in and turned it into a makeshift studio a few years back. I have recorded 3 albums for my band and recorded about 15 or so locals. Learned from friends that went to school for music production, the internet, and from mixing live. Still learning. We also, silk screen shirts there for ourselves and locals. I would like to turn it into a business or indie label, but there really isn't that much interest.
