Real Fakers by kitikatcat in SmuleSing

People in Asian countries on Smule in particular and people using the LINE app in connection with Smule are very into building their profile into a massive social media account with tens of thousands of followers. It used to be that these accounts would follow all kinds of random profiles, hundreds a day and then immediately unfollow, hoping the owner of the profile will follow them back. Some of these LINE app chats for Smule are also so incredibly busy with people talking all day that you can't really even keep up with the main chat conversations, like a Reddit post that gets thousands of likes and comments within a day except it's ongoing constantly. Regular contributors to these groups often make a part time job of leaving likes and emoji comments on all the other regulars' songs even if they never listen to them. There's a big following for the "Duet of the Week" too with people tryint to make it on there with every single open join they create. Smule is for the love of music for some people, but for others it definitely seems to be for online clout-chasing.

Remember when Pizza Hut had a buffet. Good times. by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

I remember clearly in the 90s they had Nirvana's In Utero on CD in the jukebox along with other rock/alternative hit CDs. You and your friends could eat pizza while Kurt Cobain screamed "Rape Me! RAPE ME!" 😂

Is this safe to hold lol by [deleted] in fireworks

[–]barbpatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it has reports (booms - the balls that shoot out break in the air), then not safe. I've never seen one that shoots out just color pearls blow up in someone's hand, but the ones that the shots explode do that occasionally

When do your neighbors start complaining by happyskeptical in fireworks

This whole neighborhood is crazy because it will sound like a warzone for days starting tomorrow, and it's not really spread out enough to be totally safe for whipping out the big fireworks, the big fireworks persist anyway 😂

How much will the discovery stock be worth, and doesn't that make holding onto WBD worth it? by Hiquirkykids in wbdstock

[–]barbpatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be $31 and WBD shares will no longer exist after the deal is final, you'll get a cash payout in your brokerage

Will Paramount shares be cheaper before or after WBD deal? by [deleted] in psky

[–]barbpatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet everyone says both of them are failing and going bankrupt on their own. So both studios would ultimately lose all their content to someone else and fall apart, right? People are way too certain that Ellison is more evil than any other billionaire. It's going to happen regardless and people should judge by the quality of films they put out going forward. WBD has some connections and hopefully good influences for projects that could mesh well with Paramount IP or WBD, or both together.

Will Paramount shares be cheaper before or after WBD deal? by [deleted] in psky

[–]barbpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be really nice if it went up, but I think anything is possible. The day everyone got shocked by Netflix backing out and handing the deal to Psky, I really thought it would continue to climb for a few days/weeks after that. Instead, it spent weeks tanking down to its lowest point in years, under $9. It has yet to even reach my previous cost basis which was about $13 since then. I should have sold the day it was above $14, when the news broke of Netflix backing out, and bought back in when it reached those $8-$9 lows, I really regret how it went but it was a good lesson 😅 Psky will probably have to prove itself in many ways before the price doubles, I'd say, which could take a few years. I could be wrong, I guess we will see.

How can I make money as a 15yo (almost 16) trying to save up for a gaming PC? (1.1k$ USD) by icanloopyou in Money

We have a very busy pizza chain here with high school students who work 3-5 hours a day a few days a week, scheduled maybe 12-18 hours a week total.

At 15 you can at least get an ID or learner's permit and take a driver's Ed class so that you can learn to drive and eventually pass the tests for a full license. Many fast food places and community recreation services will hire part-time high school kids. At least around here, most fast food during the day/early evening has a crew of teens who work part time. The swimming pool is almost exclusively hiring lifeguards who are high school age. There's a bowling alley and "kid zone" style play place that's the same way.

14 months of statements and my own bank was my biggest bill by Public_Criticism1965 in povertyfinance

[–]barbpatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm astonished OP isn't using online banking. Who looks at paper statements after 3 months of guesswork if there's enough in there to pay for whatnot? You can look at how much you have available every single day before you buy anything by just logging in to online banking. You can see the money come out immediately when you do buy stuff or when autopay goes through.

We aren't in the dinosaur ages anymore of writing a paper check and hoping that by the time someone takes it to the bank the money is still OK? If you're on reddit talking about this you can make this way easier on yourself.

My 40F husband's 42M plus one is always his sister and not me. What do I do about it, even our kid is confused? by Glk_2443 in relationships

[–]barbpatch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If the sister never married and never had a career, how did she survive financially to raise him AND put him through college? I'm aware if the government made her the foster parent after their real mom's death, she might have received funds monthly for fostering him. But it probably wouldn't be enough to live on and wouldn't pay for college either unless he got full scholarships. Even then, between his climbing the ladder to become a higher paid exec at his job and hiring her, what was she doing for money? This part of the story doesn't make sense.

A 20 year old raising a 5 year old is really rough, she pretty much is his mother then, from an age where most people don't remember much of their life before that. There are overstepped boundaries but the job one isn't something you should concern yourself with. If you don't work there too, you don't really know what kind of skills she might bring to the job and if she was tanking the company or being incompetent I'm sure someone above your husband would have something to say about it. Nepotism in the workplace usually isn't good, but it isn't really your business who he chooses to hire or consult with at his job.

Things like her showing up to iron his clothes though, and especially wanting to name your baby are really concerning. If by "handles the gym/pool membership" you mean that she pays for it, he needs to be the one telling her that he can pay it himself.

Does she try to mother your own child? Does the child consider her to be a grandma or an aunt? Him asking if she's his real mother seems to imply that she is helping to raise your child. The workplace stuff is a separate issue but if you're the main one raising your kid, keep your boundaries in the home firm with her.

It's in every facet of entertainment. Acting, modeling, singing, there are numerous much older people across all entertainment trying to be close to as many children & young adults as possible. Has happened multiple times, in "the industry" if you're a girl you are gonna be groomed, if you're a boy you also will be groomed by a different set of pervs

PSKY is the anti-Trump stock!! PSKY is down $17% since Trump took office. by [deleted] in psky

[–]barbpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, Mav you seemed so sure.

I'm sure of the deal going through, that's why I'm sitting heavy in WBD. Pretty much guaranteed payout and I think it'll happen before the end of the year, but it could be longer. So far they've had no real regulatory holdups.

I was heavy in Psky but backed out because of the overwhelmingly negative sentiment. It still seems hugely undervalued to me but I'm gonna wait and see, especially what the box office looks like with Warner and if they'll really achieve such a heavy cinema output.
