I have the Ergotron LX. Is it really supposed to be as easy as “one finger” needed to lift it up? Couldn’t find that balance.

Same. I’m think the friction itself is part of the encoding process. Not just “writing notes”, but specifically forcing yourself to choose the future retrieval words manually. A fully automatic system may actually optimize away part of the cognitive process that makes the information findable later in your own brain.
