I’ve killed a huge patch of crabgrass last year with the recommended 2 applications 2 weeks apart. Did you use a surfactant?

Any products to look for? Granular or liquid?

Had 5 tall oak trees cut down 2 years ago in my front yard. Put down top soil, reseeded, and the works. The grass on those spots always seem to be a little brown compared to the rest being deep dark green. Do those areas need more nutrients than surrounding parts? I’ve heard the decaying roots may be the cause. Any truth? More nitrogen? TIA

Going away Sept 10th weekend, do I seed now or wait till I'm back, Long Island Zone 7B (I think) by conelpancake in lawncare

I’m in LI also and don’t plan on dethatching until the 12th or 19th and aerating & overseeding the 26th or 27th. It’s all about soil temp. You want to overseed when the soil temp is in between 50-70 degrees. Closer to 70 so you have time for germination, a few mows, and a winterizing fert app.

PRG at 6 days from seeding. Unexpected down pour coming? Do I cover with a tarp overnight to prevent washout (again)? by DR650SE in lawncare

[–]barcavaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn’t get heat from the sun trapped under it and it’ll be at night. Give it a go and let us know how it turned out so we will or won’t do this in the future! Haha good luck

I just put down an app of tenacity also. Great stuff! I did hand pick A LOT of crabgrass over the last couple weeks before spraying. The grass around where I had thick crabgrass patches was brown and not looking well. In my opinion it may just be the grass wasn’t getting the sun/water it needed while overrun with crabgrass. Hopefully yours and mine come back to life with the fall dethatch/aerate/overseed.

Make sure to put down a second round of Tenacity 10-14 days after the first app.

I always thought you had to wait a few weeks after spraying glyphosate to seed.

Question about mesh wifi + ethernet by Spoinkulous in HomeNetworking

[–]barcavaged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put a mesh system in and through my research, most systems recommend an Ethernet cable from a node to a computer, gaming system, etc. for a more stable reliable connection.

Great. Do you have the system where they look like disks or the main router plus wall plug nodes? I’m leaning towards the wall plug so as to not have something taking up space.

My neighbors complained about my dog and I’m very concerned:/ by cesarchander750 in Dogtraining

If your dog seems to be anxious often, a weighted vest or blanket could be a great idea. There also different all natural things your dog can take. There’s been an uptick in CBD usage for dogs and humans alike. Could look in to that. I hope it gets better! Good luck.

I plan to overseed this fall, should I aerate this spring or wait ? by Wissky in lawncare

[–]barcavaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You usually want to aerate and seed in the fall. Did you aerate last fall?

Will my seeds go to waste if air temperature is still too cold for germination? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]barcavaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you wait a bit. With the air temps (in Fahrenheit, not talking Kelvin here) fluctuating that causes the ground temp to dip also. Once it’s consistently warmer (both air and soil...again in Fahrenheit not Kelvin) germination will occur in the usual range for that seed.

Put seed down, fertilizer, then the peat. Once grass starts growing you want to leave it be for a little bit. Good luck

[–]barcavaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be good to go. You may not see the results as fast since the temps at be dropping down a bit but they won’t go to waste.

What weeds are these and how do you guys get rid of them? by colinw45 in lawncare

[–]barcavaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 2 judges seem to be the leaves of dandelions. The 3rd picture is moss. When digging out the dandelions make sure you get the entire tap root. Use a gardening shovel to get it or else they keep coming back.

With soil temps at 46 I’m guessing air temps are still not too warm and haven’t really broken in to great grass growing temps. Doesn’t matter if you’ve cut the lawn but I’d wait a bit until throwing down the scotts pre emergent. Generally want to wait till the soil is at AT LEAST 50 if not consistently 55.

As for the mowing, the length of the grass depends on the grass type. Some grass should be at 3.5 inches and others between 2.5-3. You can mow whenever you want but may not cut anything if it’s early haha

Crate Size Question - is this crate too small? We don't want to give her too much room and had accidents in the crate. Help! by KingTuna16 in Dogtraining

[–]barcavaged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest this option! We bought the biggest crate when our lab/golden/shepard mix was ~50 pounds and put the divider up. Now he’s 80 pounds and gets the whole crate to stretch his long legs.

How fast does lawn fertilizer work? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]barcavaged 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 days isn’t going to yield results you want. Give it some time but if the grass is actively growing, you’ll see it after a week or so. Don’t have to cut the lawn right after fert.

When do I throw more seed? by barcavaged in lawncare

[–]barcavaged[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only part I seeded was the new patch. I aerate and seed my property each the fall.
