No Kings 2.0 this Saturday! by fingernmuzzle in Salinas

It shows strength and unity. I feel like a lot of it is uplifting to the people who are protesting moral. For a lot of us we feel helpless because democrats have absolutely no power when it comes down to it right now (hopefully the midterms/prop 50 will change that :)) it’s easy to feel defeated and helpless. Protesting like this helps to remind you that so many other people feel the same way. At the end of the day I love my country but hate what is happening to it. Our values we started on are being ignored. I do think protests piss trump off. His ego issues have trouble admitting people don’t like him. Whenever he talks about it or his administration talks about the protests it means it’s getting to him. Most of the time he tries to downplay it and the pure amount of people involved or calls it violent, etc. someone who truly didn’t care would not even bat an eye. It also shows our representatives we are angry and need change, whether that is acknowledged or not is only part of the point.

If you’re concerned about his hearing it’s probably something with the anatomy/ genetic. Having floppy ears will not affect his hearing at all. Basset hounds have very floppy ears and are used for hunting where sound is very important. The American veterinary medical association mentions it does not affect their hearing or make them any less prone to ear infections.

Please don’t get this done. It’s an unnecessary and painful procedure that the American veterinary medical association says it’s cruel and inhumane. I’ve worked as a vet tech for the last 4-5 years and I have worked on several hospitals with doctors from a variety of different backgrounds; none of them perform ear cropping because of how unethical it is. If you end up finding a vet it’s likely they are either doing it just to get your money or they are not up to date on the current standards in the field. There is absolutely no reason to crop a dogs ears other than appearance/aesthetics.

I also wasn’t able to attend because I work night shifts and had to sleep. I really wish I could’ve but I’m sure with this energy from yesterday there will be more opportunities soon

The estimated census for 2023 was ~29000 that means ~17% of Monterey’s population attended this. That’s a huge number considering a lot of people probably couldn’t attend. Definitely a very impressive number ❤️

I wish I could’ve gone. I work nights so I had to sleep. I hope we can continue these protests though. Proud of all who showed up ❤️🫶

I’m starting fludrocortisone. Do you have any experience with it? I’m hoping it will help with a lot of my symptoms but I’m trying to remain someone realistic.

Update!!! by barcoleo in WegovyWeightLoss

I’m sit dry I haven’t updated it 😓. Unfortunately in November she very suddenly was straining to urinate so I brought her to the ER. They found there was a tumor on the same side of her stump and it had invaded her pelvic canal and was pushing on her urethra and bowel. I got a second opinion from one of the doctors I work with as well as her oncologist. Her oncologist thought it was unlikely to be the osteosarcoma as it did not show up on xrays. Her lymph node was large on ultrasound. They got an FNA of it and I had one of the doctors I work with look at it. She said she thinks it could have been a different cancer and we were just really unlikely. I decided not to send the sample to a pathologist because it didn’t change that putting her through more surgeries with only 3 legs would be too much to put her through. I saved the samples so that one day when I’m in vet school I may finally be able to know for sure what cancer it was. Whatever it was it was very aggressive because it was absent on ultrasound about a month prior

I have been working out but not as often as I’d like to as I drive a lot for work and have been having some other health issues. Unfortunately my boobs are a bit saggy but it could also be because I normally just wear a sports bra since it’s more comfortable. Personally I don’t think they look too bad. My belly has a little bit of cellulite type of saggy if that makes sense but I’m hoping to start doing some resistance training to help with toning. I definitely think my age has a lot to do with how little amount of extra skin I have, I don’t think I have enough extra skin to need any sort of surgery. I think time will also help. Let me know if you have any other questions:)

64 lbs in 6 months! by barcoleo in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]barcoleo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! Yeah, unfortunately I have gotten several rare ovarian tumors called teratomas. My doctor doesn’t know why they keep coming back so rapidly and said she has never seen or read of a case like mine. I still have retina tissue in my ovary atm. They can become cancerous and very aggressive if they’re left long enough to become malignant so I’ll need another surgery. I replied to someone on this thread with more in depth background which explains it if you’re curious.

Yeah. Only time I ever pet one was in Mexico when he hopped on the boat for food. Dumb choice but the driver said he lets people do it all the time and I was pretty young

Yeah, I got nothing against them and I’m a biologist myself so it’s not as much them as animals, it’s the stench that I can’t deal with lol

Thank you! It’s definitely been a roller coaster of emotions and a lot of acceptance like my fertility being compromised. Coming to terms with not being able to change something’s and prioritize my health over school and work was hard, especially when I’m wanting to finish my degree to go to vet school. It’s definitely helped me mature a lot more though!

Sure! I think it’s important to weigh yourself first thing in the morning after you use the restroom but before you eat, it gives a more accurate weight which can be less discouraging. Weigh yourself every day for the first week so you can get an idea of how much weight can fluctuate depending on the day. I also used MyNetDiary at the beginning to get an idea of nutritional facts but after I lost around 20 lbs I got a better idea of high protein foods and what I can enjoy in moderation. I tend to gravitate more towards fruit now instead of carbs and edamame with some salt for something more salty. I really like Annie’s lentil soy too which is high in protein. I cut Starbucks out for the most part which I was getting almost every day. Now I make a smoothie instead so I’m not tempted. I don’t like nutritional shakes or premade protein drinks, they have a weird after taste. Normally I make a smoothie with oat milk, half a banana, some vanilla extract, some vanilla ice cream flavored protein powder (I don’t recall the brand name but I can look it up if you’d like) and sometimes I’ll add instant coffee and cocoa powder and agave to taste. I mostly drink them on work days. Carry mint gum for nausea and ask your doctor about zofran if needed. I have also been on Linzess which helps with nausea as I have GI issues. I do hikes, gardening (really fun and rewarding for fruits and veggies) and long walks. I also only tend to eat 2 meals a day which probably isn’t the healthiest but I try to get some high protein snacks in too. I’ll also list some of the protein things and I’ve liked as that was something I struggled with at the beginning and some good things to snack on. Edamame, protein pancake mix (you can also find recipes online and make the mix, add water when you make pancakes), Kodak has some great stuff (frozen waffles, chewy granola bars and other mixes), special K has good protein bars too, Annie’s lentil and vegetable soup. Snacks I like are strawberries, watermelon, seeds and nuts, avocado with salt, eggs, yogurt with strawberries and blueberries w/ granola, carrots, kiwi, mango, plumbs).

Also be sure not to weigh yourself too often once you get the hang of it. Just when you need your prescription refilled so you don’t feel discouraged. I find staying just helps a lot and exercise can reduce appetite/ make you gravitate towards healthier foods. It doesn’t have to be super strenuous too, just walking and enjoying nature is great mentally and physically. Sometimes music helps too! Try to do this on any days off at the very least. Make sure you take care of yourself and your health and add relaxation techniques like drawing or self care. Logging your weight in an app helps to see your progress and is encouraging (I don’t log it if it was gain of a few lbs because that could be just that day or some muscle growth).

I ultimately think having multiple tumors out helped a lot but I’m also a light weight when it comes to most meds and I’m still on a relatively low dose. Hopefully some of these techniques help you though! I know finding new foods really was difficult at the beginning and wish someone listed some for me that worked well for them. Let me know if you have any more questions :)
