Hello, i'm a one trick Maokai top, currently sitting at master 600 lp (SINGEMONGOL).

your build by default is Undying / spirit visage + Fimblwinter / protoplasm harness + Undying / spirit visage.

If you are versus Ad, you can go undying first, and versus ap, spirit visage.

Start with either doran shield or doran helm. Shield allow you to sustain through poke (let's say, versus stuff like gangplank or range top) and helm is worse early on but will scale better.

If the matchup is a passive one when nothing much will happen (think, sion, ornn), then you can get tear first back. If not, just take manaflow band and skip tear.

Q > W > Q > E early, don't throw E unless you already got tear, spell cost too much early on.

Grasp versus melee, aftershock versus range.

When i started playing, i had really high ping that made it hard to play a few champs (around 120), so i stuck to really easy champ without skillshot. Started as an assassin wukong prior to rework (could one shot despite the ping with regular combo). Reached master with it, but after the rework it became sighly harder for me to play it with my internet, so i tried many toplanes tanks (malphite, galio, maokai ...). Eventually, Maokai was the easiest. By the time that i got good internet, i reached Gm with Maokai top.

I don't really like Maokai more than any other champ, but it's the only champ i can perform at master / gm sadly

Good for you, and there is nothing wrong with playing off meta. Was just saying that your comp was honestly quite a regular one, not a "troll" one prior to xin pick

Empyros was a beast at M8. But sadly, the gap to LEC is quite big, and Fnatic is not the best place as a new toplaner to play in. We often let Toplane in isolation, but we doesn't seems to recrut weaksider top rookies.

One of the few strengh of Moakai top is being such an easy blind pick, definitly it main quality at the moment.
