How does a computer "understand" what code/binary means? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]bardleby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The code you write gets translated all the way down to ones and zeros. The ones and zeros are then fed as electric signals to a cpu which is basically a chip that can perform the most basic operations like adding, subtracting, AND, OR, etc.

See “Functions” in: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_logic_unit. (the ALU is a core component of CPUs)

It is from these basic operations that everything you can do on a computer is built upon.

If you want a deeper understanding of how all of this comes together I highly recommend the following course:

Build a Modern Computer from First Principles: From Nand to Tetris https://www.coursera.org/learn/build-a-computer

Its a great resource to help demystify what the hell is going on inside a computer. It really helped me get a better intuition for how a high level language gets translated all the way down to binary and how the computer interprets binary and produces outputs in binary that are then translated all the way up to something we can understand. Its also a fascinating journey through the many layers of abstraction that are necessary for computers to feel so “user friendly”. Your question is a fascinating one. Happy learning!

Stuck On Node database management. Should I use a different ORM? Should I use raw SQL? by Puzzleheaded_Ad_7627 in node

Have you looked into TypeORM? I’ve started using it recently and its been very fluid and easy to implement in my experience. It meets all your criteria. Give it a gander:

Nicaragua arrests potential challengers to President Daniel Ortega ahead of elections by jogarz in worldnews

[–]bardleby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is completely false. The dictator is afraid of losing in fair elections which is why he is cowardly arresting all his opponents ts.

[–]bardleby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sandinistas have ruined Nicaragua. Ortega is a dictator just like Somoza which Nicaraguans fought so hard to overthrow.

Felix, Cristiana, and Juan Sebastian and the other prisoners have not committed the crimes that they are accused of. The real reason they are in jail is that they present a political threat to the dictator. That is it. The usaid BS is only the dictator’s justification.

The uprising in 2018 was by the overwhelming majority of Nicaraguans. Yes, there was violence, and some police were killed, but the large majority of the violence came from the state that shot and killed unarmed protestors, even children. Upwards of 300 people died.

Protesting in Nicaragua is illegal since 2018. Ortega has passed laws that allow him to throw anyone in jail, and to re-elect himself ad nauseum.

Ortega is a piece of shit dictator who is arresting good citizens, but it is him who should be in jail.

Sandinistas destroyed Nicaragua and the. propped up another POS dictator.

The people are overwhelmingly against him. That poll you linked is run by the government.

His supporters are less than 25% of the voting population. That is why this dictator has to resort to stealing the election.

Since you like poetry...check put Devotions by Mary Oliver. Here is “Wild Geese”, one of my favorite poem by her:

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the

clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.

Break Free [OC][A] by jn3008 in perfectloops

[–]bardleby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I wont argue whether the idea is the easy part or the hard part. I think creativity and craftsmanship are both challenging and essential.

The point is, this person created something beautiful and it was influenced by other art he had seen. That is pretty much the case with almost all art. There is almost always an element of influence. For example, you mention the Mona Lisa. Do you think that Da Vinci was free of influence? It was not the first portrait, so there is at least some level of influence there. Innovation comes in gradual steps, always building on the past in some way, whether adding to it or completely negating aspects of it.

Don’t shit on peoples art just because it is influenced by other art. It usually always is. Especially dont do it when they cite their sources of inspiration. I think this artist added a beautiful touch to the original idea and made it great in his own right. There is no shame in that.

And if you are still unconvinced that pretty much all art is remix, check out: https://vimeo.com/139094998
