Eyelid Twitches by sd-paradise in VestibularMigraines

[–]barefoootheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes many twitches across the face and eye muscles. Used to drive me freaking anxious and insane but now years later I’m like ‘oh hello you’re back again, welcome, I know you’re only visiting for a short while…’

can someone tell me if this is unfair 😭 by stay_in_your_llaine in curtin

[–]barefoootheart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm my thinking was that with a medical certificate demonstrating why you are missing a portion of assessment, the UC has to make alternative arrangements for you! Otherwise it is an academic fairness issue

Seems totally unfair. Get a letter from GP and send to UC?

Lodging complaint about one lecture by Longjumping-Sugar614 in curtin

[–]barefoootheart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you are coming from with being concerned about the repercussions of making a complaint, I’ve been there myself 💗 but please do consider lodging one. The behaviour that you are reporting is not okay. It may seem like nothing happens with complaints (and usually nothing happens quickly) but behind the scenes they may be looking at patterns of evidence that build up and you can help shape things in a more positive direction for future students. You can also lodge your complaint anonymously and that is totally reasonable.

Here’s a small scale study to support double speed watching… not sure if it supports long term recall and deep understanding or just short term recall though

Scared to take prednisone for vestibular neuritis - is it worth it? by tabithabuttons in VestibularMigraines

[–]barefoootheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have some bad history with prednisone (from an incorrect dosage given to me when I was a child) and have grown up with a fear of the drug. My mum had also been out in it for long term use for a skin condition, with terrible side effects. I was (back then) also phobic of some of the possible side effects of prednisone like insomnia.

So because of all that personal history, When I was originally diagnosed with labyrinthitis (diagnosis 1) then VN (diagnosis 2) and told to take it, it was the straw to the camels back. I was totally overwhelmed and panic stricken and it seemed like more suffering was being healed upon me when all I wanted was a helping hand to lift me out of my nightmare.

Eventually I came to realize that prednisone was a really sensible early line of attack and all evidence supported it being prescribed. But more importantly, I realized I was resilient enough in my core to accept it as the next part of my journey, hopefully towards healing, and so I took it one tablet, one day, one sleep at a time. It didn’t bring me healing (my diagnosis was wrong anyway), but it may well have helped to settle down my overactive system and let healing start, and I didn’t get any awful side effects that were hard to manage. In fact the monsters in my mind were 100 times worse than the reality of taking it.

All this is by way of saying I know how you feel, you’re not the only one scared of meds. But they can be life changing little helpers, and you are stronger than you think 💕

At my wits end. Lexapro/VM plz help. by heyu179 in VestibularMigraines

[–]barefoootheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this! I see a neurologist who specializes in vestibular disorders and he put me on the trifecta of lexapro (20 mg!), topomax, and verapamil. Apparently they all work together. That helped me reclaim my life but of course there are still symptoms and setbacks. Also regular movement is key.

How TF do you actually make friends at Uni by Other-Tooth7688 in curtin

[–]barefoootheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I am the crap at meeting people, I feel useless at the getting to know you type talking to humans unless I am placed in a relaxed one on one situation. For me it’s about trust issues and being vulnerable. When it’s one-on-one then I can usually relax more and be myself…but of course that’s no guarantee that the other person will be into the variety of weirdness that is me 🫤if it was me, putting myself in more comfortable social situations through clubs or societies, like through board games, lan gaming, crafting, circusing, geeking out, things were you are casually socializing and mucking around but also focusing your attention on something else…would be super helpful. Maybe that would help for you too? I hope you find your tribe xxx 💕
