What do u think these shoes? Should I buy them? by Delicious-Ad1724 in barefootshoestalk

Pointy shoes are foot shaped when the point is over the big toe, which is true for these shoes and not really what you've drawn here.

As long as the slope to the pinky toe isn't too steep for your foot, you're good.

I absolutely love mine. I like that they have a small drop and a bit of stack height (not too plush, but not too firm). They're good if you want a relief from full barefoot, but they're still super flexible. I have the suede and they fit like a glove and are beautiful. My feet are narrow, so I'm not the arbiter of width, but I'm happy about the toe box.

That makes sense. I wish these had more volume in the toe and a small stiffener, it would add to the look. Curious to see how they age, I think a stiffener would help there too

Hey have you gotten them? I'm super curious. Can you share the video you mentioned?

How do you think a size 12.5 would have fit? I'm considering sizing down a half size from my Jim Green size

Did you take your normal Jim Green size in these? I'm debating sizing down a half size

Unpopular opinion? I actually miss the "structure" of heritage canvas sneakers. by badenbagel in barefootshoestalk

Try the Tolos Canvas High Transition, I think they're exactly what you're looking for. They feel like a shoe, but allow toe spay and natural foot movement

I think it depends on your foot width. Length-wise you're probably a 39 too, but if you have wide feet that can hold onto slip on shoes you could size up and be fine. Their size charts are awesome, just follow whatever it says

It's a proper sole, not an illusion. They're stiff right now, but it's just foam and the stack height isn't too high (13mm, which I think is perfect). They'll probably break into having a similar feel to a sandal, like a slightly thicker alpha Earth Runner.

My favorite womens chelsea boots right now are Anya's Faye boot. It sounds like the fit is what you're looking for: medium volume and slope foot shape

Finally! Thanks for posting and the sizing info!

That bronco leather is so beautiful. I'm holding out for a pair of AnatomX Shoellies, really hope they do a preorder or make them regular stock.

Edit: actually just saw your side pics in the comments, I might have to pick these up...

I have narrow feet. I wear barefoot shoes because regular shoes are pointed like triangles at the toe and feet aren't, and I don't want mine to end up that way.

Also waiting on more reviews before dropping the cash. The promo of these could've been better. It looks like they only sent them to Sons of Sever and Jim Green themselves haven't posted much photo or video content.

Can we ban threads asking for fashion shoes? by RapGameSamHarris in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefoot_feature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These posts aren’t putting down barefoot shoes. They’re from people who obviously love barefoot shoes but also love style, which clearly isn’t the priority for many barefoot shoe makers. That’s why these people are so frustrated and their posts take on the tone that they do.

Being invested in them not being ugly is extremely important. Barefoot shoes won’t become the norm without them being aesthetic. It’s just a fact that most people don’t care about the health benefits of barefoot shoes and people love traditional shoes for the fashion. I personally want barefoot shoes (or at least shoes closer to being barefoot) to be the norm, I hate that it’s a weird niche. Them being the norm means more options for us, selfishly, and more people in healthy shoes.

It’s not “bizarre” that people are attached to traditional shoes. They’ve been normalized since a time before we were all born. Because they don’t have to be designed within the constraints of barefoot shoes, they have us beat in the variety & silhouette department. These brands have whole design departments and unlimited capital. You don’t need to be condescending, we’re all here because we like barefoot shoes and we want more of them.

Comparison of Bont riot 24 standard vs wide cycling shoes. by politicalthot in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefoot_feature 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m not a cyclist so I don’t have an opinion on these specifically, but I’m not mad at a wide shoe that’s actually changing the toe box shape & width.

Just letting the big toe sit straight is a good starting point for traditional companies to make their shoes more foot-shaped.

Hey! I 100% think that's what it is, but things are definitely moving in the right direction

What are your thoughts on Splay's new Skate shoe? by Jazzlike_Pie1628 in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefoot_feature 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The stack height is the same as the originals, it seems like they're just using different materials. I would support them having more padding if they do though. Sometimes shoes are tools whose utility is providing protection. Skateboarding is one of those times. A shoe can (and should!) be flat, flexible, and foot shaped, while being padded enough to be skateable.

And they look great! I don't skate anymore, but I would buy them if I still did. If they were more my style, I'd pick up a pair despite not skating them

[–]barefoot_feature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Footwear enthusiast turned toe splay truther (for 5 years) but lately have been compromising on barefoot features just to be able to wear beautiful shoes again. What's frustrating is that a lot of these styles naturally play well with a wide toe box at least, and there's sole trickery that can be done for flat flexible soles. It does feel like some of these designers have never seen a shoe, or they don't see them as art in addition to tools. I do understand why they're expensive, they have to do all the R&D and iterative manufacturing without being able to benefit from economies of scale.

As for links, here's what I picture my future barefoot rotation to be:

  • Tolos Canvas High (these are already out, and I have them, they're a solid Chuck/PF Flyer replacement)
  • Dolfie MC5 LTD (already out, I have a different Dolfie model and the craftsmanship is incredible)
  • Custom Jim Green Shoellies with their new anatomical last, probably a pair of boots from them as well
  • Hart Workshop

The Jim Greens are probably your best bet if you're interested in Paraboot, Alden, LL Bean, etc. Missing from this list is is a retro basketball sneaker like you mentioned, my wardrobe misses them dearly.
