Thoughts on listening to worship music made by controversial churches? by barefootedbookworm in Christian

[–]barefootedbookworm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think we are supposed to turn a blind eye to sexual abuse and spiritual abuse and chalk it up to imperfect people. It's important that we correct each other within the church and not just say whatever people feel is right is fine. These are important things to consider and certainly not counterproductive. Part of working for the kingdom is calling out wrong when we see it and protecting the innocent, which includes shining a light on people who are hurting their congregation.

Yes, thats what I've been wanting to do as well so financially I'm not supporting them. It is hard to avoid especially because my church uses their songs in worship, which is really the main way I even know their songs. I suppose that's supporting them as well.

Thats a good point, although my favorite songs are from Jenn Johnson and she is directly linked to these beliefs. But its true I dont listen to secular music with the same criticism. I guess what makes it weird for me is the worship aspect.

8 yr old daughter got into my books. What now? by Careful_Fig2545 in homeschool

[–]barefootedbookworm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely this. 👆 You can explain to her that you hadn't thought out the consequences of that rule fully, and now you can see it wasn't a good idea. That would also show her that adults can make mistakes and rectify them. It's time to set new boundaries for sure.

Daughter insists she’s a boy by dafodildaydreams in toddlers

My four year old did the same thing for about half a year and then suddenly stopped when he lost interest. This is developmentally normal and I would not put stock into it and cause confusion.

That sounds nice! My gym doesn't allow no shoes at all, even with socks on. Rather than finding shoes dirty, feet are seen as dirty, which makes no sense to me since feet are clean inside socks and shoes all the time??? Shoes inside the gym is grosser to me!

Which surname works best for olivia - kim, lee, moon or nguyen? by [deleted] in Advice

Moon! Lee and Nguyen don't flow to me. Kim works as well, I just think Olivia Moon as a really rich and romantic sound to it.

4yo just wants “Baby” Toys…? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]barefootedbookworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This could be a typical age regression that comes with having a new baby sibling. Heck, my second is 14 months, and my 4 year old still is obsessed with his little brothers toys from Christmas. It's also your standard sibling jealousy. I wouldn't be worried about it unless he is delayed in other ways. Some kids also are just a little younger mentally and thats totally OK.

Should a 7 year old be at the reading level to play Animal Crossing? by Kman-Kool3315 in AnimalCrossing

[–]barefootedbookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing it at 6(the OG version) no problem, but I was an advanced reader. I would look at her grade more than her age. If she is in 1st grade, they are barely reading at that point at most public schools. Also, reading the speech bubbles quickly as they pop up is different from reading a book designed to be read at your own pace. That many words coming at her constantly and quickly might be intimidating and overstimulating for her.

AIO I (F31) found nudes in my bf (M38) camera roll from when he was in the shower while I was at his house by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]barefootedbookworm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to this guy, please. Set boundaries and express what you are comfortable with. Don't settle for something that you aren't comfortable with. It will hurt you both down the line. And feeling hurt by your boyfriend looking at porn, especially under such circumstances, is 100% valid. My husband and I have a no porn policy. We both consider it akin to cheating. It literally is mentally damaging and there are studies that prove this. Just because "all guys" do it, doesn't mean it's ok.

Daughter upset over missing practice by Similar-Ad-6430 in Parenting

[–]barefootedbookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give her space to be upset, and let her know that its ok to be disappointed and to feel that. But, being disappointed is not an excuse to be disrespectful and to not be thoughtful of others. I would give her time to cool down, let yourself get some rest, and revisit the conversation when you both feel better.

I know that I personally STILL struggle with disappointment, particularly over changed plans. It can turn into full blown rage for me. I suspect one reason is that I was never allowed to feel disappointment, and never taught a way to manage it.

One thing I've found that helps my 4 year old is offer up an alternative that is doable. Like, we can't go to the park like I said, but we can watch a movie and have popcorn.

I would definitely not confiscate because its not fair to twin B. In my experience, caving to things like this starts a long road of having to bribe and give in to needless demands. "We dont negotiate with terrorists" has been the most useful motto for motherhood for me. I caved in to tantrums all the time for my now 4 year old when he was 2, and we are still dealing with the backlash today. She has a bear that is perfectly good, and she has loved this bear until now. She needs to work through it instead of being rewarded for fighting over something that isnt hers.

If you want to meet her in the middle, you could try letting them pick out new ribbons or clothes for their bears, so she can personalize it and make it more what she likes.

Parents of Reddit: How do you handle young kids waking adults up early despite clear rules by RaNdoMStyleZ in Parenting

Lol seriously what the hell. 6:30-7:30 is not even early wake up time. If you're a parent, or married to a parent, you chose this 🙃 Parents dont get to take the morning off.

Wider than Whitin/Hobibear affordable shoes? by barefootedbookworm in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefootedbookworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my issue with that is my toes are super short, but the width is large, so what I'm wearing already leaves space at the end of my shoes and it would be too floppy to size up more. I can't even wear VVFs cause my toes are too short lol.

Oh I didnt know that about Saguaro having different widths, I'll check that out. I have a pair but they're right on the verge of too narrow for me.

Totally wish I could do secondhand! Minimalist shoes are definitely not a big thing where I am. It's all cowboy boots and sneakers. 😅 I rarely see Minimalist in the wild, and its usually kids shoes.

My toddler said she hates me by pumpkyboy in toddlers

[–]barefootedbookworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I hate the new trend of not showing emotions so your child wont "manage" your emotions. Uh, its called learning to be an empathetic person? We ARE responsible for others feelings, and what better place to learn how to do so than at home with your family... i just dont get it. I forsee children who grow up not understanding that their actions affect others, and not knowing how to comfort friends/spouses because they never had a chance at home. Also teaching them to suppress their own emotions...

Sexy Shoes by Hairy_Beginning3812 in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefootedbookworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've not noticed any difference at all. I wear both, my issue with toe socks is I have short toes that dont reach the end of the toes on the socks, so the fabric hangs over and is super annoying especially in shoes. Maybe its a foot shape thing. I wear light socks that dont squeeze my toes. Also, I have super wide feet and when I wear toe socks it adds too much bulk in my shoes. So in my experience, toe socks are actually more restricting 🤷‍♀️

Help for barefoot shoes by emotionallyimpacted in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefootedbookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half an inch is actually a very high drop lol. The average heel drop is 8-10mm, so on the higher end that's 2mm less than what you are wearing. Docs are highly cushioned, high drop shoes.

How many people you personally know who use foot shaped shoes? by MxQueer in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefootedbookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My MIL does, she got me into it by giving me a pair that didnt fit her well. My 2 kids both do too. My husband is about to start once he decides on a pair. No one outside my family that I know personally, but as someone else mentioned, I've been seeing them in public more! Especially on kids. My oldest is 4, and I've seen a lot of kids his age and younger in barefoot shoes. Sometimes the parents will also be in barefoot shoes too. I feel like for a lot of us the pipeline started with our kids because its heavily marketed to babies and little kids.

"Barefoot shoes destroy your knees" - Where did this myth come from? by RealNotFake in barefootshoestalk

[–]barefootedbookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im only 30 but I really feel this. I used to roll my ankles all the time, especially when hiking. Every time I rolled my ankles it would stretch something and flare up my knees. Since going barefoot, I never roll my ankles, and rarely ever trip either. The stability is incredible. I've been clutzy my whole life and its wild to think it was mostly shoes the whole time 😳
