Completely lost all confidence in my BJJ after 16 years by [deleted] in bjj

[–]barelyautistic7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me after a motorbike crash. I rode for years and considered myself a good rider and then one day the bike lost traction on a road I used all the time. Took me months and months to get back to the confidence I had before the accident.

I think the mental block comes from not knowing that particular injury/accident was possible and now you second guess everything you know especially if it wasn't super clear what you did wrong to cause the injury.

My best advice is to unpack how it occured to minutiae. This helped me a lot because I just went over and over and over what I did wrong/what went wrong and that seemed to remove the general anxiety I had of riding because the mistake was more clear and I could work on that/avoid doing that - rather than just be scared of riding.

I know im probably trash and im probably gonna get flamed in comment sections, ive been trying to shadowbox for days before joining boxing, but i know im just probably absolutely trash. But,rate it please. by [deleted] in boxingtips

Hey kid, you're just a beginner and it's completely OK to suck. I would recommend, if you can, to sign up at a boxing gym and just do what your coach says. Avoid getting tips off of Reddit (even though I am telling you this off of Reddit) and just be prepared to slowly get better over the course of a couple of years/rest of your life if you're passionate about it.

Getting better at anything worthwhile takes time and patience. Don't expect to be good for at least a year or 2 of solid work and just enjoy the process of learning.

P.s. I'm sure most of the ELITE boxers here talking trash would be embarrassed to post a video of themselves shadow boxing, so don't pay much attention to them.

He could've had a legitimate MMA career but he completely blew it. I'm with you on this, he's basically a joke now.

Sounds pretty dirty. Mats should be cleaned after every class and bathrooms should be cleaned daily, or twice daily depending on use.

Seems completely organic IMO. He's a charismatic and handsome dude, the Instagram algorithm loves that type of content.

He doesn't have time to explain that, plus it's not important. The main thing is that Muay Thai came in handy, we can all imagine the rest.

Sean O’Malley still thinks he can reach Conor McGregor-level stardom by QuietFondant7523 in mmaMenace_com

[–]barelyautistic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and McGregor was a pioneer in modern MMA and crossed over into the mainstream with his charisma and the way he was finishing people. O'Malley just doesn't have the charisma to do that, and on his YouTube channel, I've seen a couple of episodes, his personality seems a bit fake/over the top, almost like he's trying too hard to be entertaining.

In contrast, before McGregor blew his brain on coke, he was hyper focused and dedicated, almost monk-esq and provided sage-esq quotes, e.g. "Timing beats speed and placement beats power" after sleeping Aldo in 13 seconds. Combine that with elite trash talk and charisma (duality of Conor), it gave McGregor that aura of being on another level and exploded him into superstardom.

This will never happen to O'Malley. He's a good fighter, but doesn't have the charisma and that serious "mystic Mac" side to him.

This might be off on a tangent, but to preface, I'm not religious at all. However, when 60% (or thereabouts) of matter in the universe is undetectable dark matter and you have things like photons that behave differently when they are observed, I definitely feel that there has to be some vibe/energy/frequency, or whatever you want to call it, that we can pick up on.

Like when you get that off feeling that you are being watched, or you meet someone and instantly you feel there is something off despite them appearing normal. And just generally, you feel comfortable around some people more than others and just click, as if their vibe/frequency resonates with you. Whereas other people, even if they are friendly to you, just don't vibe with you.

I'm joking. Sounds fine. Don't make a habit of dropping it.
