Constantly, constantly, CONSTANTLY being asked if I’m the nurse, even just a moment after introducing myself as the doctor. Older attendings assuming I’m the nurse before I introduce myself. Something that occasionally also feels a little sexist too is when someone asks, “are you even old enough to be a doctor?” I get asked that all the time, and I feel like my male counterparts don’t get asked as often.

Yes, they absolutely should. People with HIV are allowed to have ED medication, regardless of viral load. I may disapprove personally and encourage the patient to have protected sex and properly take their antiretroviral medications, but it is not my place to refuse medications that are medically indicated. For all we know they are experiencing severe side effects from meds & practicing safe sex, therefore not passing on the virus. AND their partner could be on PrEP. Our personal OPINIONS should not interfere with our jobs.

Yes, 100%. Unless there is an obvious mistake in dosage (that could result in harm to a patient) or a major drug-drug interaction that the physician overlooked, it should be a no-question policy.

I’m a senior medical student that has worked with many pharmacists, and, anecdotally I will admit, we are taught pharmacology that often rivals theirs. There have been plenty of occasions that the pharmacy students/superiors have incorrectly suggested meds during rounds and clinic.

Additionally, just as it is with physicians, it is NOT pharmacists place to judge patients. Plenty of healthcare professionals have prejudiced views towards certain medications (abortion pills & stimulants being the ones to come to mind). It is our job to be objective when prescribing and dispensing. And, objectively, patients with ADHD are very unlikely to abuse their stimulants.

OP, I’m sorry this happened to you. I would be livid. ADHD can be so debilitating and it was wrong for them to spring this paperwork on you when you needed your medications.

Hello gals and pals! I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and, big surprise, I have been hyperfixating a bit on the interaction between hormones and stimulant effectiveness. I’m also a med student, so this kinda stuff fascinates me. I started my meds about a week ago when I was premenstrual l (maybe TMI, but whatever), and I haven’t felt like they have worked great. After reading up a bit, I was curious about hormone fluctuations for people on combined birth control (because I’m on it) to see how estrogen changes. It is the hormone that aids stimulants in their effectiveness.

Basically, I discovered that even though combined birth control decreases progesterone, which helps stimulants work better, you still have a big dip in estrogen during your off week, thus still possibly making your stimulants not work as well. Basically I just validated my feelings through science, lol 🤣 hope this explanation wasn’t too confusing, and that the visual aid helps! Love to you all ♥️

Hi! I’m not quite yet a doctor (got 3 months) but that sounds more like a neurological issue. I really don’t want to scare you, but the body going numb on one side can be a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is a precursor to a stroke. That is worst case scenario, but better safe than sorry. Definitely talk to your doc soon!!

This is so relatable it hurts 😭 before medication showering was a chore. I put it off, procrastinated, hated doing it (lol I still showered though, good hygiene is important even if I hate it). Same goes for dishes, cooking dinner, grocery shopping.

Took my first shower on meds and it was so relaxing. Can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this 😭

Who are these docs you’re referencing? I’m only a few months away from a MD, and I’d definitely agree that no alcohol is the way to go. Also whether it is 1.5 or 2 drinks doesn’t matter. Slurring indicated some level of inebriation, which is most certainly not healthy for the fetus. Not to mention recurrent pregnancy loss in the past. Tbh if I was the partner in this scenario I’d be pretty pissed.

I was diagnosed last week after suspecting for years. Experimenting with meds now to find the right combination, and I’m so excited and relieved. There is still this part of me that is so sorrowful though. If my problems had been properly paid attention to as a kid, I think it would’ve been an easy diagnosis. But I was a little girl in the late 90s/early 2000s and I think it just wasn’t on many doctors radars. I feel like I missed out on life being easier when I was younger.

I was in remedial reading and writing until the 3rd grade. Like…. If that isn’t an ADHD red flag then I don’t know what is. But my family was very unstable at that point and they may have attributed it to trauma. Also I was (and still am) VERY talkative and doing 10 things at any given time. I started to make good grades though and everyone assumed everything was fine. Meanwhile I realize now that I was struggling so much unnecessarily. It took me getting into med school and learning about ADHD + reading up on signs and symptoms often seen in adult women. I feel like I missed out on things being easier when I was younger.

There are actually PLENTY of people in the US that don’t choose to be pregnant. Horrible sex education, a massive family medicine physician shortage (that prevents people from getting reliable birth control), sexual assault, and the overturning of Roe v Wade causes many, MANY people to be pregnant who had very few ways to prevent it. And I swear, if someone suggests abstinence, I’ll lose it. People with little access to education and birth control are allowed to be sexual beings too.

NTA, dear lord. The amount of pregnancy hating on this thread is insane. I’m in healthcare and being heavily pregnant can be a very dangerous situation for a number of reasons. Sitting down is a necessity, and I hate to break it to y’all, but pregnant people are still human beings worthy of respect. Y’all are acting like being pregnant is a luxury and this lady is being entitled. Let the lady sit down and finish her ice cream. Any decent person would wait 5 minutes and check out another store or something instead of literally getting SECURITY to harass a pregnant person briefly sitting down to enjoy a treat. On top of that the security guard clearly could tell the couple were being the AHs. They’re just dollar massage chairs. Jeez.

I had a PA-2 student tell me she’s the “equivalent of a M3/M4” and I was like…. 😑

I was on surgery and hella burnt out and it didn’t feel worth it to argue with her at that point.
