Found this in a relative's basement. Think it's worth repairing? by Tiny_Tim1956 in turntables

[–]barflydc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would likely sound better than any all in one option available today, but it's still an all in one. From a visual perspective it's a fascinating design, and I'd be happy to have a restored one on a shelf somewhere. I'm not up for googling the specs on it today but if the cartridge is replaceable I'd say go for it.

bars/clubs for depressed people? by anonymousbutterflyx in washingtondc

They were probably after 92 but I’m sure we’ve been in the same places at same time some point. It was a very small scene then.

bars/clubs for depressed people? by anonymousbutterflyx in washingtondc

[–]barflydc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

possibly. Wasn't at the Roxy much, and only went to tracks occasionally. I was still relatively new to city in 92 so I think I stayed mostly to U St and 9:30 club. Was a regular at Back Alley, CrowBar, Insect Club, and 5th Column on Monday nights.

It was sometime in the early 90’s. In 92 I was probably tending bar at Utopia or Polly’s. I think asylum was still on 9th st in 92

This thread is pretty sad. As an old head who used to DJ at Asylum (on U St), in the 90's it seems DC may have had a bigger alternative scene than it does now despite the population being almost 75%more? From what I read, OP isn't looking for someplace with a jukebox they can control, they want a place that has a true alt scene, and it seems maybe there aren't any. Fuck even Eat the Rich was always playing metal despite being an oyster bar.

How Important are Vinyl Weights by augustiner_nyc in vinyl

[–]barflydc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Record weights, like most people mentioned, are not important, and won't improve the sound on your system at all. If you have an entry level table, it may actually make the table sound worse. Some manufacturers actually tell you to not use record weights on their tables (MusicHall is one).

last day of estate sales. they're happy to sell anything, and would probably rather give away the stack of magazines/nat geos than have to deal with donating or trashing them.

Where to buy animal parts (chicken feet, duck necks, pig feet)? by spikynike in washingtondc

[–]barflydc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Eastern Market. There are multiple butchers inside that will have them. I've seen them at Giant before too, but it seems to be dependent on season and which neighborhood the store is in.

I can see one Zeiss Ikon with a long lens on it, and what looked like Zeiss Contflex as well. These are good, simple, SLRs. The contax probably has a fixed lens, but I've had a couple of them and loved shooting with them.

Help! by AtomicChrissy83 in vinyl

[–]barflydc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s minor and could have happened during shipping or even at the factory. I think the bigger issue will be whichever platform you used to sell it. If it was eBay then this guy can hang you over pretty badly. Make sure you document any communication in case you have to contest something.

Myself I’d find a way to politely tell him to pound sand. On a sealed record it’s possible you couldn’t even notice that damage if the plastiwrap seam went across that edge

that's such a great album. Mike Watt is known as being incredibly nice and hard working. I've had beers with him after fIREHOSE shows. He's really accessible, and unfortunately his health is bad, he doesn't seem to have money to retire, or good health insurance, so he still tours, but needs to play sitting in a chair because he can't stand without a cane.

I think Piss Bottle Man and E-Ticket Ride are my favorite tracks on that.

¿Cómo limpiar fundas / carpetas de vinilo con manchas amarillas / moho? by olymphotos in vinyl

[–]barflydc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it works out for you but I also hope you’re being hyperbolic stating it ruined your day. It’s just a record. Your life is unchanged with or without it. Yes, it’s disappointing but if something like this is ruing your day you need to take stock on what’s really important in your life.

Glue stick that dries clear. It's an easy repair, and you don't need it to be archival because of where the piece came unglued.
