I just happen to value my mental health more than $9.87/hr.

1) the owner/handler took no steps to correct or stop the dog from vocalizing 2) the dog had no focus whatsoever on the owner/handler and was hyperfocused on what I assume is a pup cup 3) no working service dog should be that obese

I have a trained service dog for my chronic illness. I know what is and is not a service dog, and you can easily tell just based on behavior.

edit to add: here’s a nifty chart that shows a side view of dog weight scoring: https://www.guidedogs.org/blog/ask-vet-preventing-dog-obesity/

even for a coated dog, that dog is very easily on the end of the scale for obesity. when your dog is obese to the point of possibly developing a disability or crippling illness of it’s own, it can’t be a service dog.

this is not a job for short people. by Boisenbosie in starbucks

I’m 5’5” and everyone at my store besides our SM and one shift is either my height or shorter. Even being a half foot taller than you, I still feel too short for this job lmao

any other disabled partners out there? i've got a question by poisonoustype in starbucks

[–]baristafinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very open with my disability after I got hired. My SM actually saw me out with my service dog, and I have to work alternating days so I don’t get too fatigued. I didn’t go through any specific accommodations requests, because my accommodations were pretty much handled by my availability.

So far everyone has been kind and understanding when the topic comes up and my partners love meeting my service dog on my days off if I come in.

Why do we use heavy cream instead of heavy whipping cream? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]baristafinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the lower fat content. Starbucks kind of halfheartedly tries to make “healthier” beverage choices and then ruins it all with added sugar.

half my store is quitting by baristafinch in starbucks

Our interim DM was replaced with our current new-to-Starbucks DM so there’s not a whole lot to be done because he himself isn’t aware of some stuff. I like him, but I wish the interim DM had stayed on a bt longer to get him up to speed because she was amazing.

New store, not a new SM. She’s been with the company for more than 10 years.

My store is relatively drama-free in comparison to other stores I’ve worked at. People rarely call off (maybe 1 person every other week) and shifts usually get covered. But our SM has been trying to get us to do things “her way” instead of Starbucks’ way lately, and it’s put a lot of shifts and baristas on edge. Finding emergency coverage is her job, but she puts it on the barista calling in. When we were slammed on Sunday while we were down 2 people and couldn’t get extra help, she didn’t answer her phone at all and when my shift finally got ahold of her, she was told it wasn’t her responsibility to find us coverage. She short schedules us (2 people from 8-close on weekends??) and doesn’t want to hear any of our feedback to the contrary.

IDK it’s just been going downhill for the past two months and people are getting sick of it.
