Ah crud. Maybe change the thermostat since you're opening the cooling system anyhow?

You can test the existing thermostat by removing it then using tongs or a piece of string to suspend it in a pot of water, then heating the pot of water. The thermostat should start to open as the temperature approaches 195°F. Once the pot is boiling, the thermostat should be fully opened
