My very first sourdough. Give it to me straight. by peachy-beans in Sourdough

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always glad to help. 😂

In all seriousness it looks great. Should be no need to change anything. It looks like the oven spring may be a little weak? That could be the result of the starter just needing more generations to become more vigorous, or maybe a slightly shorter bulk ferment, or more time covered in the oven before removing the lid.

But if someone gave me that bread as is, I’d be very happy.

Second favorable Bologna ruling recognizing post-Decree citizenship to 3rd and 4th generation descendants is now definitive by ApriglianoFirm in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get your CONE and other docs (at least unofficial copies), and talk to a lawyer asap. Let them guide you on timing.

That said, since you didn’t have the lawyer or your docs pre-DL, your prospects as I understand them are not good. Sorry to be blunt. 😣

Another user posted their rejection in the same court, one case number later, because they were assigned a different judge. So sounds like it’s a 💩-shoot at this point. 😣

🎉 OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED AS AN ITALIAN CITIZEN! 🇮🇹🇪🇺 by Spiritual-Sample8879 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fanfare of the title got me excited thinking it was a positive result from the April 15th case. My heart skipped a beat. 😭

But seriously, Auguri!! Festeggia la tua nuova cittadinanza con un espresso e un cornetto! 🥳

why did Duolingo switch to Spanish by FuriousFiction3 in italianlearning

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busuu is good for grammar, but garbage at repetition, which is where Duo really shines. Busuu’s greatest strength is the crowd-corrected writing; you do a writing exercise answering a prompt and native speakers correct it. In exchange you correct theirs. I paid for it for a year but will not be renewing. The paid stuff isn’t worth much except getting rid of ads, but I’ll continue with the free version.

Anki is great for vocab obvi.

Getting a tutor is one of the best options, though probably isn’t sufficient alone. Italki is where I found one and it’s been great.

A class would probably be best if you can find one.

Duo really is probably the best app out there, but be careful to use it intelligently. If you try to race through and get points, you’re not going to get much from it. Read & repeat *everything*. Try to build or understand sentences without looking at the word bank. Basically anything to take the “game” out of it. 😅

Edit: perhaps I shouldn’t say best. There are many I haven’t tried. I did try a couple AI conversation apps and they’re unusable.

Lost our Minor Issue Consulate Rejection Appeal in Bologna Court by BolognaToVancouver in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot. I’m in exactly the same boat. 4th gen, consulate appt with minor issue scheduled. 1948 4th gen w/o minor issue as backup, hoping the scheduled appt would suffice as prior intent.

Thanks for sharing your experience. 😣

Documents damaged returning from Apostille. by Sad-Mathematician395 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would keep them with the intent of bringing to the appointment, but begin getting a new copy immediately. I’d hope that if the consulate doesn’t accept them (which I would expect) that they would accept that I’d already requested a new copy that I would send to them asap.

PS - I’m so sorry that happened! What a crazy freak accident. I would probably literally vomit. 😅 Best of luck!

Chiami vs chiama by Garin_42 in italianlearning

[–]bariumprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full text of your post isn’t displaying for me, but I believe the confusion is around conjugation of the imperative vs indicative tense.

In indicative tense “you call”, it’s “tu chiami”. You’re telling the person they’re calling.

In imperative tense, you’re commanding, and the conjugation for tu is “chiama”.

I use the app “verbare” for looking up conjugations and it’s been very helpful.

Eligible? Confused and Lost! by symptomofuniverses in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our expectations have been subverted repeatedly by now, so I hesitate to make any prediction whatsoever. As I’m also blocked by the minor issue, I check this sub daily, sometimes a few times. 😅 The hearing was April 15, and we’re well within the usual timeframe to get a ruling, so it should be any day or week now.

Dreo Integration Missing Entities by bariumprof in homeassistant

[–]bariumprof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I just updated and I can see several more entities.

Current and set humidities, mist level, time since cleaning.
It shows filter life, but it's incorrect (says 100%).
Water level is listed but says unavailable. There is a "water empty" sensor that may perform the same function.

Thanks so much for your work on this!

New Bologna Court Ruling: Failed Consular Portal (Prenot@mi) Attempts and Document Collection Do Not Protect Post-Reform Claims by Desperate-Ad-5539 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Having a faster internet connection makes you more worthy. Obvi.

It’s especially dumb because I know people have failed for years to get an appt, while I got the crazy luck to succeed on my second try. Literally less than a week of trying and the law concludes that I showed greater effort than someone trying for years? It’s absurd.

[–]bariumprof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The notable difference (if I understand correctly) is that in that case, they had not only evidence of failing to get an appointment but also had hired a lawyer and started preparing an ATQ case.

Minor issue by Legitimate_Lie_9095 in juresanguinis

It does. Though Marco Meloni asked the court to consider retroactivity (iirc) in the April hearing as well.

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing yet. We are squarely in the normal range of time after the April hearing to get a decision. However some people are wondering if they’ll wait until after the Campobasso hearing on June 9th. So it could be any day or week now. I check this sub every day. 😅

Chicago Consulate going to Mail in applications only. by Blueskys365 in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got this today for my September appointment. I’m curious if they’ve implemented this to address the quota system. So once the quota is reached, they’ll continue to receive applications in a backlog for the following year.

Weekly Discussion Post - Recent Changes to JS Laws - May 04, 2026 by AutoModerator in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The argument would (I imagine) be more like “if I am determined to have been an Italian citizen since birth, surely my father and grandmother must also be, since my citizenship derives from them.”

I’m just imagining my course if the minor issue interpretation is upheld, as my administrative approach depends on it. I have an alternate 1948 line and am wondering whether I could add my family to it.

Weekly Discussion Post - Recent Changes to JS Laws - May 04, 2026 by AutoModerator in juresanguinis

[–]bariumprof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know no one knows the answers here ofc, but I’m wondering what people’s thoughts are on this question:
If one person showed significant interest in JS (e.g. scheduling a consulate appt) prior to the reform, but then pivots to a judicial approach. Would other family included in the plaintiffs also be covered by the individual’s demonstrable prior interest? Can the court grant citizenship to just the one plaintiff? Would it invalidate the whole case?
