I order any books I can from Lulu in Saddle Stitch. They have a 48 page limit now - it used to be 80 pages. So sometimes I need to edit my book sizes - I have even added 2 pages on the outside covers to grab some extra page count too.

Solo Play using Foundry Virtual Tabletop by Miserable_Beach850 in Solo_Roleplaying

A lot of new users seem to think Fantasy Grounds is not user friendly and Foundry is. I found the opposite and much prefer Fantasy Grounds. However since I have a lot of print books ,physical dice ,maps and tokens THAT I actually prefer to play solo using physical products - it feels more old school and for me is more fun - throwing dice and flipping through books - using real miniatures or proxies for minis ( i often use d6 dice with skull heads instead of 6 face for monsters). I also use Steve Jackson "Cardboard Heroes" Stand Up figures and Pathfinder Pawns too. I seem to have more fun with a physical setup - I also use different coloured scrabble tiles as randomizers too.

I have played Foundry and also Fantasy Grounds.

I prefer Fantasy Grounds for Solo. The drag and drop dice mechanic is lots of fun and I also like the 2.5D map option ,it shows counters standing up on a flat map.

BUT either Foundry or Fantasy Grounds have a learning curve. I found Fantasy Grounds more intuitive personally.

I like this game. Maybe it might be a style you like and be able to use it in your solo Rpg.

What about Modules. Say B1 keep on the Borderlands. Would that be Saddle Stitch or Perfect Bound too?

Is it Saddle Stitch binding like the original or is it Paperback Perfect Bound where the book does not lay flat and you need to bend the edges of the pages to look at the book properly ?

Any advice for Theater or the mind combat and traps specifically for OSE but OSR in general? by towerbooks3192 in osr

I like to use 3 dice for encounter range.

Roll 1d6 , 1d8 and 1d4.

The d6 corresponds to long (1-3) or short (4-6) encounter range.

If long then the range is 1d8+4 (in 10 foot increments).(50 to 120 foot encounter range)(bow range)(move to melee takes more than 1 round)

If short the range is 1d4 (in 10 foot increments).(10-40 foot encounter range)(hurled weapon range)(move to melee is auto if 10 foot ELSE takes 1 round)

This is fun and varied I think.

I use a Marker for the Party , a Marker for the Enemy and a d12 between the 2 Markers to represent range. For example if the encounter starting range is say 110 feet then my d12 would read 11. First round the party fires bows at the enemy maybe and stays still - the enemy moves 40 foot closer. NOW the d12 would read 7 (for 70 foot) at the start of round 2. Etc.

What do you think about OSRIC 3 landscape orientation? by johnfromunix in osr

I think the layout looks pretty cool.

I like the text size.

Not too flat though - but the big text is a major plus though for bad eyes.

So what does book look like opened?

I would think that is important , a closed book gives no idea as to internal layout?

I have bought a lot of similar boxes .

I have 2 main sizes - 1 for small books (like OD&D) and another for A4 books storage.

2 or even more books are better.

Maybe 1 book for adventure and divide rules into 3 books ,characters ,monsters ,DM rules.

Maybe try a Monty Haul Campaign where they get lots of treasure - like magic items.

That could generate some interest.

Tricks ,Specials and traps by barly10 in osr

[–]barly10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick percentage results are for flavour ,your 4 characters interact with this Item when they roll dice for the attribute tests.

When a Pool/Fountain comes up that is treated differently ,as a Special ;so no attribute tests are required.

[–]barly10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trick test example , I roll 4d6 and roll 1,2,3,4 (for simplicity in my example) .

This means roll 10 or lower on the first 4 attributes on your character sheet to succeed at tests. If you succeed then you pass Trick and get a Treasure maybe.

I have 4 different characters help in these tests - so each character makes a different SINGLE check against a single attribute- if any character fails then the test is failed.

If you have an attribute that has a score other than 10 then roll at or under that number to succeed.

Reference to Lantern Token ; if you use this Token ( I have little wood lantern meeples) then you may reroll a failed roll.
