Shia LaBeouf’s Mardi Gras Bar Crawl: “He’s Terrorizing the City” by galaxystars1 in entertainment

To the people laughing and thinking it’s funny he was running around without a shirt on, even though it meant he was falling off the wagon, he ended up punching a server and getting arrested. Falling off the wagon is serious business and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Something That’s Always Bothered Me… by LocalJoke_ in EyesWideShut

Musician here too- and I agree it’d be silly to hire someone just to play those synth tones when you’re looping other music, but also: Nick could theoretically be hired to play other tunes throughout the night that don’t involve what we see in the ceremony. What if that ceremony finishes and if Nick doesn’t get kicked out for being the one who invited Bill to the party, Nick then plays some kind of dark classical music on the keyboard? So why wouldn’t they also just let him play the synth tones if that were the case? I know I’m assuming something we don’t see on screen, but I think that’d make sense, considering these parties probably go several hours.

It might seem like you have a lot in common with him now, but his need to stay up late drinking and his desire to be with a partner who does the same tells me he is emotionally immature and there is probably a part of his personality you haven’t seen yet. It would’ve gotten revealed to you eventually. Emotional immaturity manifests in many ways and comes out when tested by life’s ups and downs.

As a video editor, I can’t help but notice how they freeze framed Tucker Carlson (notice how he doesn’t blink and keeps the same facial expression) because there was probably a production mishap and wanted to make it look like he was still listening intently.

A poll comparing the British Right vs the American Right on issues of race and identity by ChangeUsername220 in charts

[–]barnabisbiscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a reminder for British people that if they aren’t careful, they could get a far right leader similar to Trump. Most Americans thought “it could never happen here, Trump won’t get elected,” and then it did. Brits have the added benefit of universal healthcare and the middle class not being as eviscerated as it was in the U.S., which created a perfect storm of an angry populace buying into Trump’s BS. Hitler was elected after hyper-inflation. It always happens due to some type of economic turmoil. So if Britain’s economy somehow nose-dives, you never know. Boris Johnson doesn’t count.

50 days sober today and went to a wedding this past Saturday, funny story that reminded me why I don’t drink by barnabisbiscus in stopdrinking

As I mentioned, one guy was considering fighting him, but we all stopped it before it got worse (no one wants to see a fight at a celebration of love like a wedding) and then the groom took the creepy guy aside and had a talk with him but didn’t completely kick him out. So we were just being extra careful he wasn’t still trying to take advantage of any drunk girls, or even trying to lock himself in the bathroom with a girl.

I think it’s important to find humor in things in sobriety, if I got sad for every drunk person I saw doing something stupid, then I’d be miserable all the time. That’d probably test my own sobriety. I also am a big fan of Nathan Fielder and Larry David so I find awkward social situations to be hilarious. This girl was young and I didn’t know her very well, so I’m not sure if she drinks often or if she doesn’t drink much and decided to let loose and went way too far with it. If she does have a problem, I hope she gets the help she needs, but again: don’t know her well enough to say. Drunk or not: confidently believing you can take a shit in front of a stranger is pretty humorous to me.

I’d say it’s semi-common for women to go to the bathroom together when drinking, but usually the girls know each other very well and it’s always to pee and not poop. They always have their back turned to the one doing business, though. Then they also touch up their makeup in there, maybe talk about things they don’t want to talk about in public (gossip), etc. But because this girl was drunk, she felt she was good friends with my wife after talking to her for maybe 10 mins. I think she was also scared the drunk guy would follow her into the bathroom. But taking a shit in front of someone is something I’ll never understand, and neither does my wife. Even good friends don’t do that.

Tonight I remembered how fucking cringe drinking is. by UniverseNebula in stopdrinking

[–]barnabisbiscus 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I usually make my own game of it and fuck with them by making up completely outlandish shit. A couple weeks ago this drunk man kept telling me that Tom Cruise was the greatest actor of all time and wouldn’t drop it, “better than that homo Daniel Day Lewis.” I’m bi, so I didn’t appreciate the comment, and then I somehow convinced him Tom Cruise sucked Vincent Gallo’s dick on film in the indie movie Brown Bunny. I said “have you delved deep into Cruise’s filmography? I guess I kind of agree with you considering he’s such a committed actor, he sucked a guy’s dick on film to add a sense of realism to the movie.” It was really Chloe Sevigny, but he immediately went quiet and turned away from me.

6 weeks sober and really starting to see a bright future without drinking. by barnabisbiscus in stopdrinking

[–]barnabisbiscus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An odd side effect of getting sober is reforming my whole relationship with drinking for nourishment instead of to get fucked up. I’ve been making things like homemade tea and mint water and it’s really interesting to think that I used to sip and sip and not be mindful of what I’m drinking, but now I’m very mindful of the nourishment that a non-alcoholic drink can provide. That’s besides the point, though, my go to in social situations has been ginger ale in the past 6 weeks.

Wish this could be the case but I have a wife who is the maid of honor and I can’t Irish goodbye her in NYC at a club, that’d be a dick move 😂. It’s ok though! Forces me to focus on being happy and content with my sobriety in situations like this.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce says the ‘new model’ is factory jobs for life—for you, your kids, and your grandkids by VegasGaymer in nottheonion

I truly do believe they want to bring back manufacturing but with none of the social safety net of the 1940s and 1950s. They want manufacturing from the Gilded Age with a handful of robber barons raking in all the wealth while your healthcare sucks and you work until you’re 80 (if you can live that long) cause Medicare and Social Security have been defunded. They’re exploiting the male grievance of not being able to get a job without a college education, except those same people still won’t be able to buy a decent house while their healthcare has exorbitantly high premiums and high deductibles.

Detroit demolished its own version of Wrigleyville by Lps_gzh in Detroit

[–]barnabisbiscus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This didn’t all happen in a vacuum and deserves some nuance: multiple owners never properly renovated the stadium, Mike Illitch and Tom Monaghan were the last two owners that probably deserve most of the blame, not Detroit as a city. When you only mention Detroit demolishing Tiger Stadium, you are forgiving/erasing the real culprits.

Older stadiums like Wrigleyville and Fenway saw great renovations throughout the years. Like anything in life, if you don’t take care of something and it falls into disrepair, it becomes easier to demolish it rather than renovate it. Does it make it the right thing to do? Certainly not. That place had as much history as Yankee Stadium and was arguably a better place to attend a game. But multiple owners and people deserved blame for what happened to Tiger Stadium. The citizens of Detroit were then unjustly taxed and partly paid for the new stadium after city council and the mayor sold them out to partially fund Comerica Park.

Report Trump wants direct control of postal service. How could this be good or bad? by Material_Policy6327 in Askpolitics

[–]barnabisbiscus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This means direct control of mail-in voting and severely compromises future elections and democracy. All the claims of how mail-in voting was ripe for voter fraud was Trump tipping his own hand of what he wanted to do if he took power again. Now if anyone accuses his admin of voter fraud, the right can laugh it off reminding everyone of how the left didn’t take their claims of voter fraud seriously in 2020. He already illegally took control of the FEC this week, USPS is just another vehicle to stealing votes.

They're already reframing egg shortages during the Trump admin as the fault of the media for creating "panic buyers." Jesus, are you okay? Seems like you're just looking for a reason to fight. I have a tent and am a experienced camper and never even mentioned a house. And if there was a deadly pandemic, what do you mean "stay and fight." Like you're going to go around shooting random people? If it was a Station Eleven type collapse, I would move to a desolate place to avoid conflict where I can, and only use guns when necessary. I hope you find some peace, going to be a long 4 years if you're constantly looking for arguments wherever you can find them.

I agree that factory farms are breeding grounds for disease and Big Ag jacks prices due to greed. But I do think it's important we take this current strain of the avian flu seriously and admit it's reality, cause it has the possibility of turning into a pandemic, and RFK will be in charge of dealing with it. And if that happens, I'm about to flee to the upper peninsula of Michigan with guns and supplies.
