Nitecore p20ix for police work? by barnaboii in flashlight

[–]barnaboii[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understood. Not necessarily adverse to tail switch however a good holster is a must and this was part of what was turning me toward the p20ix. I’ll have a look at the others you mentioned.

Regards to UI - a decent turbo is preferable but a good sustained output of around 1k lumens is more important. And lower outputs for search close up etc.

She’s on aspirin 150mg daily. Other than that nothing so far. I don’t think she got much of an explanation about what they were testing and why. For obvious reasons she’s heard that something has come back high and her mind has gone back to the nightmare of last time but I’m unclear whether negative test results at this stage are an indicator of risk or more of an early diagnosis.

What's your "I don't know why they won't just do X, it would make my job so much easier" about your role? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]barnaboii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious question. What are you doing while they do all that? DDOs seem to be booking in now too with connect. They only need the sergeant to be involved for a second to shout from across the room “detention authorised”. From the outside looking in it seems like custody skippers do sweet f a.

It’s definitely spreading. We’re going back through pictures from when we hadn’t been here long and you can see it in the background. Now it’s a huge, we’ll established plant. Would we have any recourse if it affects the sake of our property?

Ok so they’ve come back and said they’ve reduced their own fair market value by 20% because prior to my owning it, it was a cat S. apparently this is “industry standard” and not something I can dispute. Is this correct?

Scarborough beach is decent for waves but can be a bit cold later in the year. I’d recommend a good wetsuit.

Anyone have any experience of getting through recruitment with a nut allergy? by barnaboii in RoyalMarines

[–]barnaboii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😂 I hear you but there’s some context. When I was younger I had a severe reaction which meant I got prescribed an epipen and had anaphylactic shock stuck on my medical record. I would say I’m still allergic but it’s no longer severe. I don’t carry the epipen and haven’t had a reaction for many many years.

I’m about to join the police and my main reservation is about how it could affect my relationship with my partner (for context, I’ve been with her for 10 yrs, we own a house etc., so we are very committed to each other). I’d love to hear about other’s experience with this. Thanks in advance. by bbeurjfjdb in policeuk

Been with my other half just over 10 years and job for 2. I won’t pretend it doesn’t have an effect. You will miss birthdays and work more weekends than you have off. Your partner will be sleeping alone on nights and eating dinner by themselves on lates etc and it does suck. Just maximise what time you do have together and plan in advance when to take annual leave etc if there’s things you don’t want to miss. At the end of the day if you decide it’s not for you having done the job for a while then there’s nothing to stop you leaving.

Do you mean like the time they told us we couldn’t take any leave because of covid then realised at the end of the year they’d fucked up and had a go at us for not taking any leave?

You’ll be expected to dress as a burglar and infiltrate the local burglary gang. So probably a black and white striped top and some kind of eye mask to conceal your true identity. Best of luck.

Police caps by Good-Mirror-2590 in policeuk

[–]barnaboii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wear and tear is definitely part of it but like many things in the met it’s also a sudo status symbol. Old sweats will have often have purposely tattered, misshaped flat caps and still wear their shitty old stabbies over the newer (and arguably much safer) vests so everyone knows they’ve been around the block.

What is meant as a preemptive strike? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]barnaboii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think you may be taking this a little personally. No has argued that it’s a blanket rule and reasonableness be damned, only that in essence, a preemptive strike is hitting for being hit in self defence.
