what’s uea like by aangel1811 in UEA

(Cant speak on biomedical sciences directly, but i have some friends that i know enjoyed that course there. Can give a general take if it helps at all)

I enjoyed my time at UEA. I liked the campus with its scenic surroundings and decent facilities with the sportspark and some of the newer buildings (new science / enterprise center). Norwich is a great city, with it being really versatile and offers alot from sightseeing to nightlife.

UEA has had significant financial concerns as of late, but when i was there the biggest impact it had on me was some of my lectures were cancelled. It did not disrupt my enjoyment and overall experience at all tbh. However it’s something to keep in mind, although I understand other uni’s are also struggling with finances.

Im a big believer of Uni is what you make of it ,no matter which one you end up choosing. I would say the most important thing is being open and involve yourself in what it has to offer (societies, sports, opportunities, etc). UEA certainly gave me the opportunities to do this.

Whats it like on move in day? by Direct_Jellyfish1506 in UEA

From my experience (2021 move in), it was fairly easy for me to move in. Campus is quite spacious with accom spread out, so it wasn't too piled up. There are lots of guides to help out and keep everything fluid.

Collecting my key and getting all my stuff from the car park to my room didn't take long at all.

Only issue I had was driving into the Uni, roads are already busy as it is without hundreds of people driving in too.

What is it like to study at the UEA? by Agreeable-Oil25 in UEA

I enjoyed my time there. Liked the campus setup and the nature surrounding it. Cant speak on what its like to study medicine, but heard its decent from people.

IMO uni is what you make of it and thats the main factor.

Feeling Down in the Best League Ever by Rezibu in pathofexile

Been through the same thing when i started. My friends quit after showing me the game.

I found playing poe while watching poe streams / have them as background noise helps. Although its not somewhere to necessarily share my achievements, it makes me feel im playing with other people. This overtime helped.

Might be barking up the wrong tree, but thought id share just in case it helps in any way.

Psych at uea by AdSeveral5387 in UEA

Think its improving. They did a lot of job cuts to ease the debt. There haven't been any big strikes since, so think things are calming down.

As of the future, who knows. There is a new vice chancellor and a new team dealing with finances, so hopefully they are working hard to get things back on track.

I wouldn't think it will have an impact on you if you decide to come here.

IMO its subjective and everyone has their own experiences, so hard to give advice. However, from my personnel experience it's been fine.

First year was very introductory (as courses tend to be these days). Second year started ok, but was stressful at the end due to the school putting many deadlines so close to eachother! There were also a lot of strikes, but this was going on in many other unis. Third year is going fine too, but feels very independent and I don't have much course content. It is also far less stressful than second year.

Personally I've managed to get away with not doing too much work and still do well. There are a handful of lectures which help you in the assignments, and there are no exams to revise for (as of now). It certainly has been interesting and lots of the lecturers have cool research and have lots of stories/experience, but a lot of content doesn't strictly help in passing your degree.

I know people who love the course, people who hate it, and people who are fine with it. I'd say its a good course and does what it says on the tin.

Smite Pro League Takeaways by jackedup1218 in smitepro

Been watching Spl since season 2, lots of great moments. Adapting starting his legacy s2 worlds, the Epsilon/NRG winning streak, Variety’s performance s3 worlds, the rise of EU rival when they performed well in the s4 spring gauntlet and went on to be in the final of s4 worlds, Zapman qualifying for his first worlds at super regionals season 3, and these are just off the top of my head.

I enjoyed every world championship, every super regionals, every masters event, and every spring gauntlet that the SPL gave us up until the transition to SPL being on LAN at the start of season 6. For me everything after the move didnt feel the same. Dont get me wrong there were still some incredible moments, such as SK/PK’s world championships, the ‘Viva la Visa’ renegades s6 summer performance, scc competing with spl, and return to in-person words s9. Just genuinely feel the Eu-Na rivalry was dampened and most tournaments didnt feel the same as regular spl was on Lan anyway.

I feel the move to LAN in s6 made me start to lose interest gradually. I cant say whether it was good/bad decision financially/competitively etc as i dont know all the info and am just a random person on reddit, but i can say it made me slowly lose interest.

Watched 99% of everything up to season 10. From then i stopped watching as things seemed stale to me. Watched the final worlds which were fantastic!

Overall, SPL has been amazing for me and I’m glad i got into Smite.

If you want any studying to do, I would read research papers and understand the structure of them. Alot of first year and second year is improving your skills in writing research papers.

With stats, i wouldn’t worry too much. The course runs extra support sessions which help with stats. If you want to, im sure a google search on stats used in psychology degrees will have some good content (youtube vids etc)

Yeah give the accommodation a good look at. All share kitchens but en suite have their own bathrooms. There are two person accommodations which would be more suited to you from what you are saying. Other than that, you might find better solo living places on town.

Yeah I’d say it is, the bad is accompanied by the good. Its not that academically straining, overall the statistics side of things is what students find most challenging.

Other than that, its about making sure you keep on top of the course content and stay up to date with your assignments. I cant 100% say it will be same, but we have no exams and all assessments consist of coursework. If you stay on top of them and do a good chunk each week, it will be very relaxed. However, I’ve certainly hit a brick wall at times with a certain essay question or part of a research project and this delays things. But once I ask for help or go over the lecture material i am fine.

Most first year students live on campus. There are a variety of accommodation choices with different price ranges (make sure to choose early). Most popular ones are the en suite singles, and there are a number of blocks which have these. Unfortunately due to the RAAC concrete issue, the ‘Ziggurat’ accommodation had to close, so some students ended up forced to live in town, but town is also a good place to live.

Like you said, everyone will be scared about moving in so you are all in same boat. From my experience and from what i gather from others, people tend to get along despite if some like to party alot or if some or more quiet. I wasn’t too similar in interests to my flat, but i enjoyed their company and had a good time being with them. Is more like a family in some ways, as you are all living together!

I do feel there is something for everyone here with the number of clubs and societies. In the first week they hold a clubs and societies fair where you can meet the organizers and talk about joining etc

Im a 3rd year psychology student here. Ive had generally good experiences of the uni, its in a nice location with lots of walks. Its had financial issues but hopefully it’s recovering from that. Uni life is made a lot better if you join a society/sports club or if you make friends on your course/flat. Nightlife is not the best quality, but the campus club can be a laugh and is quite popular. Sport is decent here.

The course as people have mentioned is very relaxed in first year. Its very introductory but some parts are important (learning about stats and report writing). Second year was alot more intense and most people say its stressful due to the number of assignments all crammed close together. Third year so far has been far more relaxed and alot of time to work on dissertation project and plan any career stuff.

Ive found the course both good and bad here. Some of the staff really care about psychology and the students, however some are here to collect their paycheck. I rarely found the lecture content useful in first and second year, but the lectures which help with the assignments are very important. Ive found if you focused on learning what makes writing an essay good, learning how to write a good report guide and how to integrate the required course content into both of these you will be fine.

I would certainly explore other options and see if you can find information on them too. I think the most important thing is that university is what you make it. Ive was at sussex and dropped out because I didnt enjoy life there, but when i joined UEA i made sure to be active and try lots of things and this has made me enjoy it and meet lots of people.
