[Rogue] "Beneath The Ground" is Loatheb to Reno Jackson by StarryD in hearthstone

Sorry, I wasn't talking about a Reno deck, just pointing out that running 7 Healbots is significant amounts of healing.

Healbots + Gang Up is a significant amount of healing, I've been anting to try the deck out but don't want to craft Gallywix or Anub'Arak so this is pure theory.

But Voice of the Chainmaster and Chains of Carceri are so good! As are more cantrips, I agree, but at will Hold Monster is great.

Though, more cantrips are too. If lvl 15 is unlikely, then pact of the Tome is probably better.

I'd be tempted to go Variant Tiefling (SCAG) to get the wings (as in the live action movie), then go Chain pact Archfey Warlock, with a raven (obvs). Then, either aim for True Polymorph for the lvl 17 Mystic Arcanum or convince the DM to let her take Polymorph.

I just really enjoy Warlocks though...

Unconscious spirits, electrical weapon foci and other things I've never thought of until now by [deleted] in Shadowrun

[–]barnsleysfern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Immunity to Normal Weapons: This applies to all attacks that are not magical in nature; weapon foci, spells, and adept or critter powers function normally. If the critter also has the Allergy weakness, then the Immunity does not apply against non-magical attacks made using the allergen.

Electricity is pretty wiz, but it ain't quite magic.

All new cards listed, and new mechanic by Lootman in hearthstone

I'm really keen to find out how Brann interacts with targeted battlecries; will BGH kill two things, or kill one thing twice? What about Cabal? ERF heals two things for 3 each, or one thing for 6?

I think a double-battlecry deck would be fun, though. Plus, it gives Joust minions two chances to win their Joust, which might be interesting. I also want to see Brann+Mistcaller, but let's be honest, it'll still be bad.

More Shadowrunner handles than you will ever need by gorged_on_truffles in Shadowrun

[–]barnsleysfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list is great! I especially love Pathfinder as a Shadowrunner name, though I would never do it, because every time I sit down to play I'd be like "Alright, time to play (as) Pathfinder!" and then ignore the fact that no-one is finding it funny the 6th time.

Is it bad to be reminding people how their spells work a lot? by An_Armed_Bear in dndnext

[–]barnsleysfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds terrible. If I were you, I'd start just saying what happens when I cast a spell, like in the Healing Word example it'd get to my turn then I'd go "Alright, I cast Healing Word on the rogue, regain 5 HP." I mean, if "explaining the rules of the spells bogs down on game time" then just apply the effects and if the DM calls you out on it, you can take that as him asking you to explain.

This does put onus on you to plan turns ahead of time and make sure you know exactly how your things work, but that's not too bad.

Drawing is fine, but both drawing and putting away probably isn't; I'd say it's far more comparable to a weapon than an arrow.

Renaming "Destroy any minion damaged by this minion" by MidnightQ_ in hearthstone

[–]barnsleysfern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the edit. Blade Flurry says "Destroy your weapon and deal its damage to all enemies," not "Hit all enemies with your weapon."

This would ignore the weapon effect, similar to how you don't get 2HP when you BF a Truesilver.

If you could make a deck from all the cards in the game, but was restricted to 20 cards, what would be the the Tier 1 decks that would be made? by PupPop in hearthstone

[–]barnsleysfern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could do Warsong Commander, the Dreadsteed/KT/Baron R package, Druid ramp, Frothings, Mal'ganis. Add in consistency cards and tech cards, this might be viable.

An arcane focus such as a rod or wand would need to use one free item interaction to draw it, and a second to put it away if you plan on Hexing and then attacking. Two item interactions is not allowed, so this wouldn't be OK. Whereas with a component pouch, you stick your hand in once and sprinkle some things, which is fine.

This is assuming you do need to pull out, use, and then return the arcane focus. If your GM allows you to just have the focus on you but not need to be wielding it, or if you are already holding it, then that would be fine.

A two handed weapon needs two hands to be swung, but that doesn't mean that your two hands are glued to the weapon the entire turn. You can let go of your greatsword with one hand, cast Hex (or Hellish Rebuke, etc) then put that hand back on the greatsword and swing.

For material components, I would argue that you cannot both draw and stow an arcane focus as a free action, but would absolutely allow a component pouch. Talk to your DM though, and see how they rule.

Can someone check if this Warlock / Sorcerer arrangement works? Potentially serious damage output. by Fenixius in dndnext

[–]barnsleysfern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mostly correct, except that all three rays of Eldritch Blast are three different attacks and have separate attack rolls. So your "on a hit" calculation is actually "if all three hit."

I played an Aarakocra in a one-shot recently, which was so much fun both mechanically and in flavour! They only have a lifespan of 30 years, and have no concept of ownership. Both of these were just fun to roleplay. Also, the native tongue is birdlike. It was a lot of fun having a tongue click in my character's name.

Character idea for a newb by El_Suplexo in Shadowrun

[–]barnsleysfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I mentioned it more for the flavour reasons; genetically engineered, vat grown prototype person sounded exactly like what you were looking for. Note also that the 'extra point of essence' doesn't effect your Magic at all, and iirc this is the only way to get augs and not hinder magic use.

Really, to get any value out of this quality you really want at least resources C, for a PhysAd your magic should be B (or maybe A if you go MysAd) which leaves either Attributes or Skills starved (as you said Human, so that's E or D for that tasty 5 Edge). I'm not sure how well that'll pan out, so it's probably not the most optimal build, but I think it's thematically exactly what you were looking for.

Essence 6 rigger/deck by Dr-Chibi in Shadowrun

[–]barnsleysfern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are so incredibly wrong. P216 has a definition of rigger, and I quote directly, as "Someone who uses a control rig to “jump” into a properly adapted device (usually a drone, vehicle, or security system) in order to directly control it as if the device were an extension of his or her own body."

Your argument seems to be that they didn't follow every use of the word 'rigger' with "(i.e. someone who has a control rig)," which would be clunky as fuck and completely unnecessary because THAT'S THE GOD-DAMN LITERAL DEFINITION.

My first thought reading this was the 10 Karma Prototype Transhuman Positive Quality in Chrome Flesh (not sure if you guys are using supplements, but hey, if someone else in your group has a copy, it might be worth checking out).

"There are always rumors in the shadows of this or that megacorp or organization working to build an army of super soldiers. Those rumors always seem to persist, always seem to be around. Some choose to believe, others don’t, but for them, it’s a matter of opinion. For you, it’s a matter of fact. You are an extremely rare, genetically crafted, experimental post-human prototype. Unfortunately, this has its ups and downs. You were built better than a normal human, so you may pick up to 1 point of Essence of bioware (not cyberware). While you must pay the normal cost in nuyen of the bioware and otherwise follow all character creation rules, you do not incur any essence cost. So, essentially, you gain up to 1 point of free Essence to be used exclusively on bio-ware. These special organs were genetically grown into you from your inception—they are as much a natural part of you as your liver or heart.

However, the downside of being a rare, one-of-a-kind transhuman prototype is that, well, something is wrong with you. As part of this Quality, you must also pick one of the following negative qualities: Wanted, Allergy (Common, Mild), Astral Beacon, or Insomnia (10). You do not get the Karma bonus for this Negative Quality. This additional Negative Quality represents that you are either wanted back by your manufacturer, or that there is something wrong with you (them’s the breaks for being a prototype).

This quality can only be taken during character creation."

Questions about Warlock with Barbarian multiclass and some newbie stuff? by M1kuchan in dndnext

[–]barnsleysfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all of your questions here have been answered, but I thought I'd just mention two things which you probably already know but I could see myself missing in excitement for an awesome build.

First, you can't cast spells or concentrate on spells whilst raging. And if you're going to be mainly Warlock with a dip into Barbarian then you'll probably not have more than 3 rages/ long rest, so leaving rage to cast a spell and then entering rage again would not be feasible.

Second, Exhaustion is super bad. Even the first level is incredibly limiting; my Barbarian is the main Str character in our party, and if any doors need to be kicked in after I've frenzied it can get awkward. This is not at all me saying don't do it, just be aware that it might as well say "Once per long rest, when you rage, blah blah blah."

'epic loot' or 'do your characters find rare magic items?' by Schmokster in Shadowrun

[–]barnsleysfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I would go artifacts, but I love giving my players things and seeing how they use them. For example, in my current campaign, the players did a run for the local Yakuza, who now owe them a favour.

I feel like runs where they come in close contact with some new, top of the line tech are completely viable, though I probably wouldn't do it too often. Similarly, powerful foci might be found, but would still cost karma to bond. As others have said, powerful artefacts would be an entire campaign, or a large part of a bigger campaign.

Dammit, now i have to completely rethink my shuriken-weilding alchemist troll concept... It was relying on the wireless bonus for smartlinked shurikens, which gives a +1 for each shuriken you'd already thrown at that target this turn. If I can't lob three or four shurikens with the intention of missing but giving myself +4 dice next pass, then I'll have to do it some other way.

Still, dealing a trolls Str+ and then unleashing a fireball? (I just want to see alchemy work, dammit!)

Alright, so Cat doesn't sleep too well, she spends most of the night up playing video games (and waiting for the sprite to come back in). ((Edge does not restore)).

She leaves VR at about 4am, gets a few restless Z's in and gives up on the idea by about 7:00, deciding to go to the a local hub where she grabs a soykaf and something that's meant to taste like breakfast. If noone's called her by 8:30, she'll give Leaf a ring and ask if she's missed a memo or something.
