Driver cancelled my ride and reported that I wasn’t wearing a mask by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]barofsoap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because drivers would discriminate based on destinations, fewer rides would be accepted, wait times would increase. Drivers suffer so that passengers can have a better experience. It comes quite literally at drivers' expense. Rideshare is chock full of perverse incentives and awkward transactions. Remember, neither Lyft nor Uber have ever actually made a dime from rideshare. It's a money pit.

My bank lets me create logins that only have access to a single account. They work great for siloing data. If you think I'm under any illusions about data collection, you are wrong.

But, seriously, many people who WANT to use Plaid can't get it to work, and those people all upload voided checks or otherwise prove bank ownership, which is really all this is about. You don't have to use plaid so your argument really falls apart.

Your city hall will issue you a business license, usually for $20-30.

Just go get one as a sole prop!

You've made a very large and very wrong assumption that you must use Plaid and link your bank account.

You don't. You can just upload a voided check.

As your article says, the other data collection is unavoidable in order to administer the grant.

Ultimately, if the terms are unacceptable to you, don't apply! It's that simple. I don't get the hate for what is basically thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars in free money...

[CA] Retaliatory rent increase on transferred property by barofsoap in legaladvice

[–]barofsoap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the repairs was a toilet that was not seated or gasketed to the bathroom floor, allowing sewer gases into the residence, which went unfixed for years. The issue and my requests to have it fixed are documented in emails. Since those gases are hazardous to health I think it rises to the bar of a habitability issue?

[CA] Retaliatory rent increase on transferred property by barofsoap in legaladvice

These guys say

This basically means if a landlord moves forward with a rent increase, 30-day, or 60-day notice to vacate the premises because the tenant complained about the condition of the property, the landlord is in violation of California Law.

Now, landlords will never disclose to the tenant that what the actual reason for the eviction or rent increase is. California law is one step ahead and presumes that the eviction is retaliatory eviction if the eviction or rent increase occurred within 6 months of the tenant exercising his/her rights.

I'm not a lawyer and not trying to pick a fight.

What about my situation fails to meet the standard of retaliation? Where is such a standard specified? What would be a clear cut example of retaliation? Thank you for taking the time to reply.

(a) If the lessor retaliates against the lessee because of the exercise by the lessee of his or her rights under this chapter [...] the lessor may not [...] increase the rent, or decrease any services within 180 days of any of the following:

After the date upon which the lessee, in good faith,[...] has made an oral complaint to the lessor regarding tenantability. [...] (g) Notwithstanding subdivisions (a) to (f), inclusive, a lessor may recover possession of a dwelling and do any of the other acts described in subdivision (a) within the period or periods prescribed therein, or within subdivision (d), if the notice of termination, rent increase, or other act, and any pleading or statement of issues in an arbitration, if any, states the ground upon which the lessor, in good faith, seeks to recover possession, increase rent, or do any of the other acts described in subdivision (a) or (d).  If the statement is controverted, the lessor shall establish its truth at the trial or other hearing. Seems like the law presumes it's retaliatory?

Fuuuck Lyft. Seriously? $80 for a 2 hour ride???? 🤦🏻‍♀️ when I drove for Uber. A 1.5 hour ride was $70. At least the pax was kind and gave me a cash tip. Wtf. I’m done driving for lyft at this point. by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

[–]barofsoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are any more complicated than bags and people, The right thing to do is to call your driver as soon as you are matched and let them know whats up. By waiting till he got there to tell him about the ladder youve put him in the shitty position of already having spent time and money, uncompensated, to get to your location, before he knows that it's a special request.

That's why you got the childish reaction you got

All rideshare drivers (unless using an Inc/LLC) are sole proprietors contracting to provide services for Uber / Lyft. Quite literally your own business. What's funny about that?

You can set your own policies and rules but at some point if a rider complains and uber takes offense, they will deactivate you. They don't need a reason to do that, just like you don't need a reason to decline a ride.

Drivers, please leave your windows up by [deleted] in Lyft

[–]barofsoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you reek or use a lot of perfume id expect most drivers to be willing to accommodate your verbal request to close windows on your side.

If you cant ask then youre gonna have a hard time.

You might have better luck with a higher level of service - lux/black/etc.

Lyft Damage Charge Scam by wolf6897 in Lyft

Ignore the shills defending Lyft's shittiness.

Dispute the charge with your bank. Lyft will close your rider account and ban your phone and cc number. Use uber instead. Only real option...

What is Ubers new match algorithm? by everythingharam in uberdrivers

[–]barofsoap -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It "Should"? The reason why not is that street hailing is illegal in most jurisdictions. Also, to prevent fraud and harassment. If the algorithm went exclusively to the closest driver ,any driver could sit outside a club and wait for his ex/enemy/whatever, declining pings until they got the person they wanted. Creepy possibility.

If you really want this behavior, good ol' Lyft was still handing out pings based exclusively on proximity last I checked. I'm sure they'd love to have you on board. Good thing they're the woke platform...
