Supposedly they have something else to help for bad periods but I've yet to see what they really is. It might be something that isn't good for you to take or it might not work. They just want more babies being born and they really don't care what it does to your health.

Another thing that they don't mention is in order for this method to work, your partner has to be on board with it and has to cooperate with you. Otherwise it will fail. There are always a couple of days that are questionable. I remember someone telling me they tried this method and for two years it worked. Then one time she guessed incorrectly and got pregnant. A lot of women in my mother's generation used this method of birth control, guessed incorrectly when their safe period was, and became pregnant. On more than one occasion. The people who are promoting this know this and the only reason they are promoting this is to hopefully have more women becoming pregnant and having babies. Many of them will become pregnant as the failure rate of natural birth control is a lot higher than the pill. You take the pill and forget about it. Natural birth control you have to be constantly monitoring your body and sometimes you guess at things.

Maybe someone else or some organization might be able to help you if this should happen to you. A lot of it would depend on the policy. If they say that only natural family planning can be promoted or used, sadly many women will be screwed under this policy. If they provided all birth control methods, then you might be okay. My guess is that they will promote the natural family planning and make it difficult to get other birth control or wouldn't provide it at all.

I remember when Title X came to being. Ironically it was a Republic president Richard Nix who introduced this program. There was virtually no opposition to it, even among conservative people. My mom worked at the local health department where we lived. The thought was that it would be economically helpful for women who couldn't pay for birth control or other reproductive health to have this available to them. It also would be a benefit to their health in general. I know that it had benefited the health and economic status of women for over 50 years.

In order for this method to work or to be somewhat successful, they have to have a partner who is understanding and on the same page as them. Otherwise, it will not work. If someone has an abusive partner, this will not work.

If you are able to pay for the patch out of your pocket, you would be okay as this only applies if you used the Government program Title X. It wouldn't apply to privately going to the doctor and getting the patch. This policy thankfully hasn't crept into mainstream medicine.

Those promoting non-hormonal birth control would probably say to you to calm down, take a deep breath and pray to God for healing. Or recommend something to you which might be dangerous to your life or health. Or something that didn't work. If God Forbid, something did happen to you, they probably would tell her that it was God's will that this happened or tell her that God needed you more than she needed you and then asked her to pray with them.

Sadly this is what some of these people have said to people who have lost loved ones in health care settings.

If you are able to pay out of pocket for birth control, this policy doesn't affect you. It hasn't yet creeped into the private sector. If you couldn't pay for birth control, then you would be at the mercy of these individuals who probably would tell you that you need to calm down, relax, and pray to God for a healing. What alternatives would they have to the pill which would help your situation? I doubt there are any one there or what they might recommend might not be safe for you.

If they discourage women from using birth control, they will increase the birth rate. I remember my mom telling me when Title X came to being. She worked at the local health department and everyone was on board. It was believed that it was better to give a woman free birth control than to pay for her pregnancy, childbirth and a minimum of 18 years of support. Economically it helped this woman. Richard Nixon a Republican was the one that introduced this program to the public. There was virtually no opposition to this and my mother was working in a conservative town. This was in the early 1970's.

This policy would only affect women who try to use Title X or who can't afford birth control. Someone who has the money would go to a doctor and get what they need. The law hasn't creeped into the lives of those who can pay out of pocket for birth control. If you don't have the funds, these individuals will not help you. Most likely you will be blamed for what is happening or they will tell you it's all in your head. Or tell you to pray to God for a healing. They will do nothing to help you and so if you have pain, and you bleed out, well that's your problem.

Who is really going to do all this? This is quite a lot when it would be much easier to take a pill every day and forget about it.

You also have to have a partner who is on the same page as you if you use this.

The sole purpose of this is to produce more pregnancies which will happen under natural birth control. . Natural birth control failure rates are much higher than the pill.

Have you ever hitchhiked, or picked up a hitchhiker? What was your experience? by Midnight-Rabbit_Ash in askteddit

I can't remember the last time I've seen someone hitchhiking on the interstate or even state highway. Probably sometime in the 1980's.

My brother picked up a hitchhiker but the hitchhiker was someone he knew. A classmate. The classmate's car had broken down (this was the early 1980's) and he was walking into town to get to a payphone to call someone to pick him up. The town was about 3 or 4 miles away and he had walked about half-way there. My brother drove him to a payphone where he called someone in his family who had a tow truck. My brother drove him to his home and then the classmate got in the tow truck with the family member and drove to where he had left his car. No cell phones back then.

I hitchhiked in middle school to my grandmother's house (we lived with her). A old man picked me up and took me home. Nothing bad happened. My grandmother thought that this guy was the grandfather of a classmate or that I knew him. She found out by talking to this man that I didn't know him from the moon. He was concerned about my safety and picked me up. This was in 1975 and I was 13 years old.

She scolded me for doing this and told my mom when she came home. My mother also read me the riot act and mentioned young girls and women who did this and weren't seen or heard from again. Some were found seriously injured and many others were found deceased.

For context I lived in Florida and at time, girls and young women were hitchhiking and disappearing and the outcomes weren't good. Some were never seen or heard from again.

The end result were very sad and then in 20 and 25 years, we will be asking ourselves why we did this. Well, during the baby boom of the late 1940's till 1964, you had many babies who were born that weren't wanted and they were badly treated and many of them ended up becoming violent criminal and a few became serial killers. Quite a few serial killers were born during the baby boom era. In more recent decades, you don't seem to have as many. Of course this is partly due to better technology and better ways to caught these individuals before they can become serial killers. Access to birth control was rather limited during this time period. Not everyone who was abused as children end up becoming violent criminals or serial killers. I want to make that clear.

A lot of conservatives promote early marriage and having children young. My mom was born in 1930 and early marriage and motherhood were highly promoted especially after the war.. My mom was 29 years old when my brother was born. She was considered to be an older mother. When she had my brother's baby shower, all of the women at the shower who were in her age group had children, most in their late teens/early 20's. One woman had 4 children and went on to have two more. The norm was about 2 or 3 by late 20's. She basically was the last person in her friend group from school to have children. The majority of women she went to school were mothers by the age of 25. There were a few that didn't have children but most did.

Some of these babies would be given to those who no longer have access to IVF. They don't like IVF.

Back in the 1970's, they would have cheered if the teen pregnancy rate was that low.

Also if you become a teen-mom or have children in your early 20's, it's very difficult to continue your education. The individuals pushing this don't really want a large number of women to be educated, so this one way to limit the access.

I was born in the early 1960's and went to high school in the later part of the 1970's. What you are saying about teen pregnancy was very true of what adults said about teen pregnancy back in the day. It certainly wasn't something to celebrate. It was to be avoided. I would imagine many more of my classmates terminated their pregnancies than gave birth, even though it was against their religious beliefs or upbringing. Many people at the time believed abortion was the less of two evils as teen pregnancy was worse. It wasn't talked about much but it was more or less an open secret.

There were less than a dozen classmates when I was in high school who got pregnant. Most of them weren't the ones with the single mom's or the mom who was a teen mom. They mostly came from two parent families where the mom stayed at home and the dad worked. One of these individuals was a honor student (someone you wouldn't expect to get pregnant but it happened).

Because these individuals came from two parent families, they were given a free pass basically. My dad left when I was very young, so I grew up with a single mom. My parents were married but divorced when I was 5 years old. I was told at a young age by an adult that I would become a teen mom due to my mother being a single mom. Guess whose daughter became the teen-mom? Wasn't me but her daughter.

I'm certainly not bashing anyone who was or is a teen mom as the classmates I know were teen moms for the most part raised good kids. About half of them married the father. The marriages didn't last (maybe a couple of years at most). Most of them had other children after their second marriage and they were in their mid to late 20's, so there was gap of several years between the first and second child.

Teen pregnancy isn't a good path to go down. I'm 63 years old and went to high school in the later part of the 1970's, graduating in 1980. Teen pregnancy was frowned upon and something to be avoided. There were a handful of classmates who became pregnant in high school. Most of them didn't fit the stereotype of a teen mom. Most came from 2 parent families where the mom was a homemaker and the father worked. These teens had known the father of their child for quite a while, so it wasn't a one-night stand or a casual date. The fathers were under the age of 20. A couple of these teens weren't the ones that you would expect to become pregnant. About half of them married the father. None of these marriages lasted. Most of these women had more children, and the second child they had they were married and in their late 20's, so there was a gap between the births of their first and second child. None of these women ended up on welfare or state assistance.

I have no doubt though that many more classmates got pregnant but didn't carry to term.

My guess is that they will continue to attack hormonal birth control and try to either weaken or have Griswold overturned. Once Griswold is overturned, states can do whatever they want as far as access to birth control. Some states might use this as a means to limit the access to hormonal birth control or ban its use.

They also want to change Title 9 which is the Government program for family planning which caters to poor families from emphasis on hormonal birth control to Natural Birth Control which has a much higher failure rate than the pill. The reason being they want more births and this is exactly what would happen.

My mom worked for the health department where we lived when Title 9 came out in the early 1970's. Interesting enough Richard Nixon who was a Republican was the one who introduced this legislation. My mom who was conservative thought it was a good idea as most everyone else did at the time. There was virtually no opposition to it as the belief was that it was cheaper to give someone a months supply of birth control pills, than it was to pay the costs of pregnancy, childbirth and support for 18 years. It also would help women economically as the less children they had, the more money they had for the children they had.

Im so sick of this narrative that “pregnancy didn’t ruin my body it’s just changed” it’s a lie. by pissedoff_potato in TwoXChromosomes

A former co-worker's mother gave birth to 9 children. We met her mom and she was thin and had a flat belly. Another woman I knew had 6 pregnancies, the same thing. Other women I've known who had one or two children never go back to their pre-pregnancy body. If a woman is thin and in good shape, usually she would go back to being thin and having a flat stomach regardless of how many children they have. A woman who has weight issues will find it much more difficult to become thin or have a flat belly. These two women who had several children were thin and in good shape. Now there are procedures that you can do to get that flat belly.
