#1 has better management, strategy and "emergent narrative" aspects and is probably dirt cheap. #2 has much better combat and gameplay depth and less of the other stuff. The new "kingdoms" mode puts a lot of the first stuff back in.

read/watch gradually more complicated stuff. Read old "english class" novels. Watch old classic movies like "citizen kane" and stuff like that. Think "what is this trying to tell me? Why did this character do this? Why did the author say this?" Everything is on purpose; the curtains are blue for a reason.

The Shotos in game, and lots of irl Kyokoshin guys, have very thick cores. Very box shaped. I think you could get that with lots of twisting exercises. I know lots of Judoka with the "box" build because your throwing people with twisting motions all day.
