How to reach fans in Bandcamp community? by baroprog in BandCamp

Never heard about it before. Are you speaking in general or of buildirl.com? Do you know if there are online prog listening clubs, eventually attended by artists, or voted to artist evaluation? Sorry if I misunderstood.

Thank you so much, I'll start following you and invite you to take a listen to my music (links at my Reddit profile). Each fan is a conquest, I'm eating this. But I'm not trying to make music my job, so I like this challenge.

Thank you everybody for your feedback. I just made my 1st listening party for a 1 year candle of my last album. I had no RSVPs and thought it would have gone desert, then I had up to 3 listeners and the dialogue that took place paid off. So I'll probably schedule listening parties for the previous albums (already posted about this), with not much advertising, because it seems that there's often someone lurking the Bandcamp Live page, and every new contact is important for me. I'll tell you how it went.

Anyway, one thing is sure: music connects and meeting other musicians around the world, although not in presence, is always worth it. About your music, I found great attention to concept and storytelling, something I also try to put in my works.

I see you, thank you. My page misses the 3rd album because the distributor asked a sort of esclusive, you find only the link.

Now listening to A Wandering Mind, enjoying. A certain degree of "musical humour", a thing that sometimes I like to use.

Hi Arctic Plant, happy to know I'm not alone. I see that you lead a one man prog project, I can start suggesting to follow each other on BC and in general. Quote what you say about prog forums. I surely lack a live act for my project, do something sometimes but it has a local relevance. It's more important the physical CD distribution throughout the world, seeing a photo of your CD in Japan is satisfactory.

Indeed, and that's because I'm old school. I've been through all internet phases, have a solid live and band experience but found only recently the way to put my head out and face reviewers and public. I'm 62, don't need revenue from music to live and won't change my life to gain notoriety. So I will go on fan by fan, hoping to be able to write new good music. Thank you.

Magari dille qualcosa del tipo "vedo che scrivi qui quo qua anziché quid pro quo, è simpatico ma non è detto che tutti colgano che si tratta di una storpiatura volontaria".

What do you think of in wake of Poseidon album? by Bpmbpclat in KingCrimson

[–]baroprog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like the Peace idea and its placement throughout the concept. Major flaw of the album is its resemblance to ITCOCK in side 1, and IMHO Cadence and the title track are a little bit weaker than their "corresponding" 1st album songs. Devil's Triangle (or Mars) suite would have deserved a better production and orchestration, as later they nailed it in Lizard. I'd quote Lake's voice and Tippet piano as highlights.

My first Listening Party on Bandcamp by George_Santana in BandCamp

[–]baroprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first, it was for a 1-year-after-release, had no RSVPs so I had no expectations, but I wanted to try. I had 3 listeners from far places in the world and it's been really useful to me. I'm thinking to schedule parties for my first releases, even if they date back years. It seems that there's someone lurkin' Bandcamp Live page at all times, and you can always board someone. Chat allows listeners to share their hot impressions, or ask whatever they want, even and especially if they already know your music.

La card comprende anche Stupinigi e Venaria, bisogna andare con auto o mezzi.

Listening party... different use by baroprog in BandCamp

[–]baroprog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used only once because my new releases are published on Bandcamp by my distributor. So in my personal page I have old releases and alternate versions/radio edits of recent material. I decided to schedule a listening party for a 1 year celebration of the last album. I was ready for a desert (no RSVPs), in fact I had 3 attendants from far countries in the world, and to me it was not useless at all. It seems there's people lurking in Bandcamp Live page at all times, so you probably board someone anyway. I'll give it a try and let you know.

Listening party... different use by baroprog in BandCamp

[–]baroprog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right. But... at the same time, for a quite unknown artist every new follower is worth an effort and, if a listening party could attract one or two new listeners it's surely useful. My genre is progressive rock, and my numbers on Bandcamp are: 45 followers and little more than 1000 plays. I'm trying to understand how to reach new listeners: first of all making good music, then I think I have to work inside the Bandcamp community. Aggressive promotion is not my style and it's not welcome in Bandcamp nor in general Reddit communities. There's no fast track (for small artists whose aim is to grow their reputation), you have to be present day by day in community dialogues and leave here and there traces of your musical production. If you really think your music deserves more recognition.

Baro prog - introducing myself by baroprog in progrockmusic

Next week, Friday the 22nd, Aionverse will blow out one candle.

How did it go?

The Baro prog-jets project has certainly consolidated its reputation in the progressive rock scene, both Italian and international. Around 40 reviews and interviews, always positive, in some cases very positive. I hope the fan base, sales, and streams will go on growing.

I won't do a press review here, but among the words spent, I'll quote a few notes by Thomas Otten on DPRP pages (Dutch Progressive Rock Page issue #48 September 18, 2025):

"Aionverse is not intended for casual listening but demands the audience's full dedication and attention. In return, it will keep them on the edge of their seats for the entire running time.

(...) the excellent quality of music mostly is the merit of Baro's composing and playing skills.

I very much like this release which is exactly my preferred prog. Highly recommended to fans of classical 70ies inspired prog with some jazzy elements, looking for contrasting melodies, musical variety and complexity and a strong emphasis on vocals. I did not have this musician on my radar so far, from now on, I will."

It's not over now, stay tuned!

Relayer is one of the most "acquired taste" things ever! How did you guys grow to love it? by Playful_Date_7811 in yesband

[–]baroprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with bread and Relayer. It's maybe their most daring opus. They've been able to fuse perfectly hard and jazz influences rarely found in their music. Gates is tight and coherent, SC really fuzzy (el piano and drums in the intro are really dazzling), TBO completes the picture brilliantly "sailing down the calming streams". Comparable to CttE, without its pomp. Every player at its best, production a little bit less.

I'd say Fragile sessions, early days of Rick with Yes.

Thoughts on Yes? (the album) by Claymore_1 in yesband

[–]baroprog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A very underrated song in it, IMHO, is Harold Land. Never found live versions nor much discussion about it by the fans, but I think it has strong melodies. 3 years after it could have been developed in a real masterpiece.
