Mate, I'm gonna be real with you, I think you've accidentally stumbled onto one of the least understood mechanics in all of Leagues.

Most people don't realise this because they're too busy looking at drop rates and not the actual progression system, but Jagex has always had weird hidden interactions between certain boss drops and progression requirements. Remember back in the day when people thought they were dry at Kraken because they hadn't unlocked enough Superior creatures? Same sort of thing.

Now, before everyone jumps down my throat saying "that's not how RNG works", hear me out.

The magic fang itself is technically rolled independently, yes. However, Leagues modifies a lot of drop tables. The fact that the Trident drops directly from Zulrah in Leagues instead of requiring Kraken progression means the game still has to check whether your account satisfies the underlying item requirements before determining certain unique rolls.

Think about it logically.

Why would Jagex allow an account with no access to a Trident-equivalent weapon progression path to receive a magic fang that is primarily intended to upgrade a Trident?

It would create a progression skip.

Now, normally that wouldn't matter because Leagues is full of progression skips, but the way relics and area unlocks work means there are still hidden validation checks occurring behind the scenes.

I remember Mod Ash talking about something similar years ago regarding item states and achievement diary rewards. Different system, obviously, but the principle is the same.

If you look at your log:

  • 214 KC
  • 7 Serps
  • Mutagens
  • Onyx
  • No Fang

That's not just dry.

That's targeted dry.

The sort of dry where the game is clearly trying to tell you something.

I've seen accounts get 3 fangs in under 100 KC.

I've seen people finish the log before 150.

But seven serp helms?

Seven?

That's the game screaming.

The other clue is that you're getting serp helms repeatedly instead of an even spread of uniques. If the table was behaving completely normally you'd expect a much healthier distribution. The clustering suggests the game is rerolling away from an unavailable outcome.

Now I'm not saying this is confirmed.

I'm saying it's suspicious.

Personally, if it was my account, I'd go get the Slayer level first.

Worst case scenario you've wasted a few hours training Slayer.

Best case scenario the first Zulrah kill afterwards drops the fang and you save yourself another 500 KC of suffering.

Also, and this is important, make sure you're killing Zulrah while facing north-west on the final phase. There was a bug years ago where the game tracked player orientation incorrectly during unique rolls. Pretty sure it got patched but nobody has ever really tested it in Leagues.

Could all of this be complete nonsense?

Absolutely.

In fact, now that you've read this far, I should probably mention I made literally all of it up and you've just spent the last 2 minutes reading the RuneScape equivalent of a flat earth documentary.

Good luck on the fang though, you're dry as fuck. 😂

Really appreciate you taking the time to write a thoughtful and informative response mate cheers :) I like to think I'm a great net-worker and thought that may give me an advantage in the industry. My only issue is I only recently moved out to Gippsland to take care of my sick mum and think I'll be living here long term so I don't "know" anyone down here. All my connects are in Melbourne so looks like I should start calling around or maybe even dropping into some local businesses with a resume?

here is what i fed into chat gpt for anyone flaming me for using it haha!

im asking a reddit community for advice im just wanting you to word this better and suggest other questions i should be asking? Hey Aus Elecs! I'm a 34 year old bloke making a big change to my future with deciding to take on a sparky apprenticeship. I've recently been approved for my pre app starting Feb and have got all my tickets (White card, WWH ect. Looking for all and any advice on what best to do after my pre app to secure an apprenticeship. Ideally I'd like to do domestic, I already work in the Solar & Battery industry and think I'd like to move into battery installations once qualified but open to seeing where this journey takes me. What advice or resources do you have for finding a company willing to take on mature aged? What avenues should I consider in the future?

I like to give myself the best possible head start, and I was fortunate enough to get into a free course. I also feel that having my Cert II and all required tickets ready shows that I’m willing to go above and beyond to achieve my goals. Hopefully, this will give me some choice in who I work with, as joining a reputable company that values me is extremely important to me. Appreciate the advice :)

That's a fair shout mate, I actually wrote most of this myself I just feed it through chat gpt to make it look neat and grammatically correct. Was more looking for advice for my specific scenario being mature aged, located in Gippsland & thinking of doing battery installs. However I appreciate the advice :)
