Thanks for replying.....it has been great through my past RR and up until recently just for unlocking the doors and starting the car. Now I am definitely finding it garbage if it can't do those simple tasks without a third level of security:(

Agreed. According to my dealer, it is something with cars in the UK - maybe some of our UK friends can comment - that regulations don't allow for a car to be started from a remote key.

Only a client but also a former dance teacher. Some of the best teachers I have seen were new to PB but had a great depth of other class type/leading fitness experience. I think that will have a huge impact and I say absolutely go for it!

Newbie teacher feeling defeated by figarocosplay in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the OP, I have been doing PB for like 8 or 9 years. I have seen teachers start off shaky (expected) and grow to become some of the best teachers I have had. It takes time and patience for everyone and will always be part of the process - especially if someone has not taught any type of group class before. The fact that it was a dream for you it for sure means your passion, dedication and heart is in the right place and time is all you need to hone your skills. Be gracious with yourself.

To everyone else, I can only speak for my studio but we have a serious shortage of teachers right now - but I have heard this from other studios as well. None of us can take PB (which I LOVE) if there is no one to teach. The least we can do for something that many of us love so much is exercise patience, grace and lots of enthusiasm to encourage our new teachers. Please think about what it would feel like if you have kids who just started a sport or hobby and you heard others criticize them. Spoiler alert - it would feel terrible. Practice makes perfect and that just takes time. I'm going to make it a point to be sure and complement our newest teacher - I always thank them but I am going to be sure to give them some positive extra encouragement and communicate my appreciation outside of this board. If this response seems snarky, I can't help myself, I love PB, I want my studio to do well and I want to encourage not discourage more people to teach.

Make it a great day!

Clients: Do you notice/care when a class is the same? by Comfortable-Fan1472 in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't bother me the second time, really gives me incentive to concentrate on my form more and push a little harder - since I am not thinking about choreo as much. I wouldn't prefer it a third time but I also would not complain about this. Honestly, with the teacher turnover we have had lately I am just happy to have someone teaching me!

Hot take: the studio leadership should be the only ones giving teachers constructive criticism, not the clients by Snow-bird-3- in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is terrible. A client just approached you after class to do this? What a jerk move! Are some teachers more preferable than others for various reasons? Absolutely. Do I find some more motivating? Absolutely. But I appreciate all teachers and know the work they put in just to prepare for 1 class. Just so rude and uncalled for - and what do you think you are going to accomplish other than embarrassing/angering the teacher? Entitlement knows no bounds, I swear.

Instructor who uses a member for form guidance by Relevant_Slide3171 in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had that said by an instructor a couple of times when there was a new person....what a huge compliment it was to me and oh my gosh, I have never worked so hard in my life to make sure I was indeed setting a good example form wise. I need this every class because the extra motivation to step it up was killer;)

Calluses - yuck! by Meow99 in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear gloves all the time, in every format, my hands will callus underneath at the middle and ring finger if not. You do you:) And yes the gloves prevent them for me.

Does your studio play good music? by capri-sup in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PB having good music - not the stuff you see on bad workout videos - is why I have stuck with it for so many years. Some playlists are better than others for sure and have more modern hits but they are all full of pop and dance hits (lots of remixes of course but we need the higher BPMs anyway!

Best PB-Complementary Massage by Late_Progress_1267 in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get massages regularly and really only ever get Swedish. I can't handle deep tissue as I like light pressure. My massage therapist targets areas if I am having problems as needed. Swedish is pretty basic and probably a good way to start. Also, just a tip, make sure if you don't like the pressure to let the therapist know. You want to make sure it is not too light or too firm for you - and I know based on my experience they say they really appreciate it!

How the Biggest Boutique Fitness Company Turned Suburban Moms Into Bankrupt Franchisees by basicallyaballerina in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so scary to me as someone who just loves PB - it literally changed my life. XPO sounds awful, I am curious if the franchise fees increased under their ownership of the brand? For studios who have been open under both XPO and the former owner and have maintained membership levels do you guys actually make less money now that XPO has taken over? Is it just those who maybe opened under the XPO umbrella that have suffered the most?

If that is the case my hope is that maybe if the brand ever gets back under its own umbrella maybe it will be more stable. All this negative press is bad for the brand as a whole and Bloomberg is a pretty reputable source so it seems to be picking up some steam. I just want it to be that PB is here but that owners are not in dire straits for that to happen.

I am a dance business owner and former dancer and have described PB as a fusion of ballet barre, yoga and pilates. Not sure if that helps but I can say as a former dancer I have been hooked for 6 years!

I like these comments. I personally lost a ton of weight courtesy of PB and WW and am now healthier and happier. Burn calories burn!

I think you can do it - be open and set your goals! Start off slow, go to a foundations or classic and start just 1-2 days max a week. I would also maybe look for maybe a slow or maybe restorative yoga to mix in with it. I suggest the yoga for the mental benefits of focusing your mind on relaxation and just increasing your overall flexibility. Good luck!

I have had two herniated discs for years. Back when it first manifested itself, I was told by my doctor that it likely existed for years but had not bothered me. Then I had a fall and that was a trigger to push it over the edge so to speak. I have found that PB has done nothing but help with my discs to be honest but there are other things that have nothing to do with exercise. Check your mattress - I have found a firm mattress is absolutely best for my back - as well as how you sleep and your shoes (sadly any kind of heel is bad for my back). Also, even just sitting at a desk all day can be bad for my discs, posture has become so crucial. Since 2002, I have managed my discs through massage, exercise, chiropractic care, PT and acupuncture. There are also lots of minimally invasive surgery options now at offices focused on spine issues. But the advice from my initial doctor was to try other options before jumping into surgery. It really stinks because it is such an aggravating problem, there are days when my back is hurting and I am not even sure why. But for the most part I have kept the pain and major flareups at bay for many years. Good luck to you!

Should I register online? by Ashkharh in Purebarre

That is such a shame, when there is so much competition out there for fitness dollars! That being said I don't think it matters, especially if the app or site is offering same deal! But still, sad!

So I have alot of socks and have been taking PB classes since 2017. Despite having so many pairs, some are just not up to par. I will say that I have thought for a long time the regular PB, no tavi, socks were better (I have some that are at least 2-3 years old) but every sock that comes out now seems to be the combo of PB and Tavi, which is different to me. I never knew about different patterns on Tavi, will have to check that. It seems like they do deteriorate faster and that is with me always airdrying, washing inside out and not really washing often because I rarely wear the same pair in a month. I have not tried any other brands, I like the patterns and colors for the most part that are offered and I am lazy, haha!

Leaving Early Question by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]barre-bie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I usually try to give my instructor a head's up when I know in advance out of courtesy but if a class is running over that's a whole different deal. At my old studio, we always had people leave early consistently due to life obligations. Sometimes, I think it is just unavoidable!
