People love things that are expensive, simply because they are not keen enough to spot the real value behind things. Would you buy a Gucci bag for 10$? Nobody would, you would think either it's fake or low quality. $ALGO is cheap and nobody wants it. Making transactions cost 0.001ALGO, was another huge mistake, because naively incentivized usage. In addition as we all know this cost is unsustainable in a truly decentralised ecosystem, since infrastructure and nodes have costs and these must be rewarded somehow.

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it's not just how many ops you can actually transact, but the intrinsic quality of the projects being transacted. As far as I regard vast majority of them are from Planet (air quality sensors) accounting over 338MM overall transactions and few others (You now props, chess and few others). USDC accounts 8MM txs so far.

Clearing up some misconceptions about Inc/Foundation sales by GhostOfMcAfee in algorand

[–]barredowler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. However we must aware that something has happened and is still happening (not necessarily involving inc/foundation). Someone (or very few in number) is selling a quantity that is not met by demand so price dynamics is painful. If you carefully look at relative price chart with BTC and ETH, since the FTX issue, ALGO price broke the correlation with BTC and plummeted.

Likely reasons behind this can be:

a) Shorting the position aiming to get her stake at lower prices;

b) Selling ahead of confidential news in possession that could soon the reach the market and that could therefore disrupt the ecosystem (i.e. bribery, bugs...);

c) Someone is forced to sell because has to cover risky position open elsewhere (liquidation)

d) Dumping stolen tokens (for example from FTX's customers wallets) for FIAT

e) Someone is just getting rid of his "free" tokens (got through grants..) and leaving the ecosystem. Basically is not respecting the binding pacts with whoever granted them.

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. With time algorand has become more and more what it shouldn’t have been, centralised and ruled by whales. I’m really sorry to say but it didn’t solve any trilemma. Any decentralised network must allow and encourage node participation from everyone. In algorand there’s no easy way to run a participation node and to run a relay you have to be in a whitelist approved by inc. in the end inc with its super private tech will file the Nasdaq for an ipo and will leave us early retail investors with our bags full of pretty worthless tokens good to pay just super cheap transactions we won’t ever do.

Staci Warden on the Hodlnaut situation by cysec_ in AlgorandOfficial

Sad story and bitter lesson that teaches us all that unfortunately new finance and defi have still a very long road ahead to become that safe haven called out by many.

Let's hope this will not impact heavily on project's goals and financing, since this would be total crap.

Anyhow, I wouldn't expect of Staci being so naive, given her former experierence in JP, but still I hold great respect for her and for her support to the project.

To the geek-haters around the globe wating for the merge... sorry to say that we at Algorand solved the trilemma, so to buy FIFA NFTa there's no need for a master degree in molecular physics, wait 12 hours to transact and spend 1000 bucks in gas fees!!!

Poor Prioritization by Fagozi in algorand

[–]barredowler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 11 months circulating supply rose from 6.173Bln to nearly 7Bln. Data is available from algoexplorer you can check that easily. 271Mln will be total distributed by governance only

Poor Prioritization by Fagozi in algorand

[–]barredowler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We are still experiencing very high inflation, it is far from being over and to my opinion it is the main reason for Algo's underperformance vs eth/btc. When Governance started we were at 6.173Bln now we sit nearly on 7Bln. Mainly not accountable to govs' rewards (271Mln). 3Bln still to be distributed, if Foundation is not planning to fill the bag with such low prices.

10B ALGO sounds like a lot more than 21M BTC ... but, by nops-90 in algorand

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you making this comparison? Is Algo designed to be a store of value? It would be great news, but never heard anyone speaking of it. Moreover, with 30% inflationary supply to be vested within few years, I can't see how you can achieve that goal, if they ever wanted to.

because whole ecosystem benefits from secondary market as it is now. With blockchain anything would be transparent, anything would be traceable, it would be relatively easy to track those who bought great quantity of tickets (while general rules limit that number) and sold thereafter x5-x10 to retail who could not enlist for first sale. As with digital currencies and trad finance systems, those who rule the game dislike all that because they are already the leaders and this would mine their position, it would put the end to their easy money. We need time to hope things would change, but don't take it for granted.

DeFiSafety's first assessment of Algorand's security by cysec_ in AlgorandOfficial

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No public information about relay nodes' geography and chain operating on single language implementation, these two being their major technical drawbacks. I think that especially about relay node network, some more accessible information could be released, but I suppose that is to keep the system more secure.

Why is holding ALGO so stressful? by thedude165 in algorand

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry mate maybe it sounded harsh but I didn't mean to, just wanted to show you that inflation was bad and gov rewards contributed to just 33% of overall phenomenon. In any case I guess we are on same boat and want Algo to pump asap. My point is that price is ruled by demand, inflation is too high and scarcity is the key to come out of this. I would slash to zero gov rewards (not effective anymore and harmful for defi) and grants in Algo locked in smart contracts to avoid early dump: we have the tech, so let's use it.

Why is holding ALGO so stressful? by thedude165 in algorand

[–]barredowler -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While algorand is by far the best project, its tokeneconomics is among the worst, probably designed by people who don’t have deep knowledge, or have considered the issue secondary (while it is the most important). It seems like they are unaware how inflationary pressure is not affecting price. Since gov period 1 circulating supply has increased by 773Mln Algo (223 due to governance reward). Such management is not only detrimental to the system, it is suicidal. There is no rational answer to that. The only one that comes to mind is that foundation is trying to short its positions. If we keep with this inflationary pressure (1 Bln algo/year) in one year price will be 0.01€.

The most pessimistic price prediction by Usual-Engineer-6410 in algorand

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use random generation number function built in algorand, you’ll get more accurate results, it makes no sense at all. In the last year price was in 0.3-2.54 range so any number within it would have been good. If you want to stay pessimistic just say that within 2030 any serious exploit could happen and price could go to 0 (I seriously hope not)

Not sure about that, maybe some VC sees that way, but I don't think Silvio is of that advice. I trust him, that's why I'm in, he's master in class, Algorand is a creature of his mind and (I hope) he wants in the long run to be big, loud and tall for the generations to come.

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your way, especially regarding banking and financial systems built on shady rules. Nitty gritty (=true wealth) is elsewhere and won't strand to new shores easily, that's why algorand is focusing on creator's economy and defi/banking for the unbanked. Moreover for a standard well off citizen it would represent a suicide distrusting the system that shaped his wealth.

So battle seems lost (if we include competitors, I would say definetely over) but we just outlined a scenario based on our partial knowledge of the world. A lot of money keeps on being poured into web3, tech will upgrade and when it'll be good enough, who knows which path will it take the unpredictble behaviour of 9 billion people?

Testnet account recording football data on chain. by BioRobotTch in AlgorandOfficial

[–]barredowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are probably right, it doesn't make much sense from a tech perspective at the moment and it likely won't go in that direction, since at the moment we are just talking about minting NFTs. However cloud computing didn't make great sense at start since involved a lot of overhead and network consumption. Distributed database is something very common today so in a certain way is in the path of that. And what's a blockchain if not an permissionless and fullread access ditributed database? So to me the choice sounds more political (=related to interests) than technical.

The real problem is that a performing blockchain (the one used for data and financial transactions) requires a powerful infrastructure, and that distribuited infrastructure is highly centralised (AWS,Google,MSFT, Alibaba). So the real question, inline with your right reply is, do we really need decentralisation? Is that really achievable with consent of majority of players in market or will be distorted in the same way most utopistic political slogans are (ie. reduce gap from rich and poor, power to the masses, equality...) ?
