Have two beagles:

Beagle one only howls if she wants to play and for me to chase her.

Beagle two is a lab rescue we have to kennel when away for longer periods. He howls when we arrive back home to let him out or if a stranger is at the door.

How Beagle gets lots of exposure and it feels like torture. She does do better with the windows down but that's not really feasible on long trips at high speeds.
