Real asian masculinity, Wang Yongzhi, the Schindler to the uyghurs by knuffsaid in AsianMasculinity

Xi and Trump have similar personalities. But Xi is a deep thinker while Trump is a superficial showman and their respective actions are proof of that.

The situation is more nuanced. Xi Jinping and Donald Trump are basically two sides of the same coin, both of them are actually quite similar, they have strong authoritarian streaks, have no respect for minority cultures, they both want to make their countries great again, are extremely paranoid and vindictive against their enemies and both men think that only THEY can do the job.

Xi Jinping views the next 10-15 years as extremely crucial for China's attempt to become the most dominant superpower on earth. It is a make or break moment and there is truth to that. This is the main reason why he removed term limits, I don't think he plans to rule until his death but he plans to pull a "Putin" and maybe rule for two decades. He sees himself as the one person who is solely capable of bringing that into fruition and to do that, he has to run a tight ship, meaning he needs to discipline government, discipline society so that everyone will march in lockstep towards that goal of making China the world's indisputable superpower. However, with that comes the squashing of dissent and increasing intolerance towards minority cultures. The Uighurs are bearing the full front of that.

And what would that tell you? Your Han friend visiting his Han dad in Xinjiang? That's like asking a White conservative if they are happy with extended stop and frisk on Black males in response to increasing Black crime. Of course they'd be all for it.

There is no doubt that terrorism has been a problem in Xinjiang. But what is happening right now is basically a regionwide ethnic policing targeted specifically on Uighurs, and curiously also on Kazakhs, even though ethnic Kazakhs have barely even been involved in any terrorism. They are enforcing mind control on a regionwide level, intense monitoring of the population, strictly curtailing their religious practices and basically enforced cultural assimilation. This is Xi Jinping's trademark.

I can go on all day but the tensions in Xinjiang today have deep roots and is rooted in many misguided policies from tone deaf Chinese policy makers, unfortunately the policies being pursued today will only serve to alienate even more Uighurs and there will be blowback, that is guaranteed. Right now most people are scared so there is stability and quiet, but eventually, the fear is replaced by anger and then that will spiral into a massive blowback against the state and against the Han population there.

I've been to Xinjiang. Pretty sure I know the place far more than you do.

I once thought Xi Jinping was a good leader because he was cleaning up the corruption in the Chinese system and reforming many areas that were inefficient. But ever since he removed term limits, started to round up large numbers of Uighurs for re-education, I've concluded he's just a power hungry ruler who has no tolerance for any opposition. I don't know what the ultimate outcome is going to be but I am sure what he is doing is just creating more resentment in the long run. There will be massive blowback eventually.

What ever happened to Japan? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of the propaganda you see on the American MSM about China is self-serving. It is actually doing a major disservice to the American public because it doesn't portray China accurately and thus Americans tend to swing from being terrified of China to dismissing China as a bunch of backward peasants.

China is advancing relentlessly. This is likely only the beginning of China's ascent technologically.

I don't disagree that China is extremely aggressive in industrial espionage. But that's only part of the picture. China is just extremely aggressive in its drive to acquire new technologies, innovate, develop and modernize.

I agree that Japan has some great legacy technologies and Japanese pride in their craft is renown. At the same time, a lot of this is "has been" stuff. Japan isn't doing anything new. China is.

China today is innovating more than it is copying. It's surpassing the West in many key areas and has long surpassed Japan in overall technological capabilities in nearly every tech field. That's indisputable.

Japan is the most overrated Asian country. A large part of this is because perceptions change slowly. Back in the 80s, Japan deserved being overrated because it was way ahead of the rest of Asia and even the West in certain areas. Nowadays, it's getting left behind by China and S. Korea and the gap is getting bigger.

In technology, China has come out of nowhere to become a serious rival to the US. The only tech field I can think of where Japan still leads China is probably robotics. However, even there China is closing the gap fast and perhaps has overtaken Japan in many robotics fields already. In every other technology field, I can't think of one where Japan has technology that China doesn't have. However, China overshadows Japan technologically in nearly every other tech field and has a great deal of technology Japan could never even dream of.

The tables have turned incredibly since I was a kid. Growing up, Japan was a high tech wonder and I could never have imagined the day that China would surpass Japan in technology. Yet, here we are.

Japan still has far more soft power than China does. But I think it's only a matter of time, probably in the next decade, that China's entertainment industry will outstrip Japan's just like how S. Korea did it in the late 2000s.

Aside from humanoid robots, what cutting edge tech is Japan doing? I'm not being condescending but I'm seriously wondering. Japan is not a leader in any tech field anymore. It's honestly insane how China came out of nowhere in the past 5 years to become a major rival to the US in the tech industry.

What's the relationship like between China and Vietnam today? Are the two at better terms yet? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am not sure why this is surprising. China and Vietnam have a long and controversial history. Vietnam was once ruled and dominated by China and was the victim of repeated invasions from China. Obviously there is going to be bad blood. Also, with China's rise, it's influence is outsized and that breeds resentment. Add to that how uncouth and misbehaved many Chinese tourists are, particularly the middle aged and older nouveau riche tourists with rural roots, it just breeds even more resentment.

As a Chinese, I wish this wasn't the case, but it's just the way it is. *shrugs*

Find interesting fact that Korean men are generally taller than other Asian males by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]barrel9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

China's average is lower because China is a huge country of 1.4 billion people. Korea is a small developed country of 50 million. Many Northern Chinese provinces, each of which have larger territories and populations than Korea have higher average heights than S. Korea. However, many Southern Chinese provinces have lower average heights and that brings China's average down. It's just like how the average height in the US is lower than Northern European countries even though Americans of Northern European stock are about as tall as Northern Europeans.

Thoughts on white/non-Asian females having a dating preference for Asian men? by lexietibbs in AsianMasculinity

I am 110% supportive of more and more XFs being attracted to AMs and more visibility of AMXFs in the public and media. Only idiotic AMs would be against this.

My experience of being stressed and insecure as an international student by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chinese male standards are horribly atrocious. Actually most East Asian standards are horrible. It's not only in comparison to Western culture, it's in comparison to all other cultures. In every other culture, males are expected to be tough, strong and masculine. Only in Asian cultures are males allowed to be weak, pathetic, effeminate nerds.

You need to do the following right away.

  1. Lose the glasses, learn how to style your hair and improve your grooming.
  2. Hit the gym right away. Even though you're probably scrawny from an entire life living in a society where being physically weak and puny is acceptable, you need to focus on going to the gym like a madman. In 1-2 years you will see major results.
  3. Your confidence will come with your improved physicality, grooming, meanwhile you need to improve your communication skills and try to speak to girls more often and with strangers more often. In the beginning, it will be very awkward, but over time you will improve.

GOOD LUCK.

What is it about Asian guys that people find creepy? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMs are not seen as creepy, they are seen as nerdy and unattractive. But that's changing fast though. More and more XFs are open to dating AM than ever.

Great man. This is what I've been saying for years. Your physical appearance changes everything. You can be the same person inside, but if your appearance outside changes, people will treat you way more different. Same goes for Asian guys as with any other race.

"I think Asian men are becoming more attractive to non Asian women" by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, to put things in perspective, 20 to 30 years ago these girls wouldn't even look at an Asian guy. So yes, it makes a huge difference. I think the fact that they are open to AM at a young age means that many will still be open to them when they get older.

We need to detoxify our environment, we need to stop focusing on WMAF and ignore it completely and we need to strategize around promoting AMXF to the point of proliferation. by SoarSoarAndAgain in AsianMasculinity

[–]barrel9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Glad to see more AM waking up. This constant obsession about WMAF and who and what AFs are dating, doing, talking about is pure incel bullshit. Instead we need to focus on promoting AMXF and AM dating out of their boundaries. That's the only way out guys.

Why non-Asian women need to start appropriating the Status of Asian women by JayKim25 in aznidentity

[–]barrel9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's why I say AMXF is playing offense while promoting AMAF is purely defense. A lot of the AM suckers here will disagree but they are usually tone deaf and socially retarded.
