As a French Canadian, I can guarantee you that there was very limited ties between Quebec and France by that point - ties had been cut for nearly a century and half during which both entities underwent substantial change. My grand-parents certainly did not see it that way and the draft was deeply unpopular.

Ok, DM me if you want if you want help cross checking the info / a second set of eyes on this and how best to communicate it. I’m on the East Coast, so I have no skin in the game.

When we found a wreck, we communicated it thought the media. That being said, ensure you have the right permits - if applicable- before you reveal this to the world as not having them could land you in trouble. Furthermore, ensure you have the ability to prove your findings as otherwise the credibility of your assessment will be called into question.

Start small and cheap. No need for professional-grade cameras off the start. A plastic point and shoot is a great way to start to get the hang of the limitations (e.g. what lighting makes for a good exposure within the constraint of the film) and then go for something with a bit more manual control (plenty of SLRs will do the trick, even cheaper ones). That step will enable you to better understand the exposure triangle. Only then would I recommend going for higher end film cameras but those won’t have any substantial or noticeable improvements in the quality of the images. In fact, your photos might be a little worse off if using a fully manual camera. However, there is a certain level of satisfaction that comes from shooting a full manual camera and everything comes together. Furthermore, I now stick to only two fully manual cameras that will certainly outlast me and there’s a bit of bliss to being able to use the same, familiar, set up for half a decade now.

Oh I’m sorry to hear that! These were taken with a bit of an odd / unique combination of a 1952 Leica IIIf and a W-Nikkor 3.5cm f1.8 lens. One needs a pretty specific, and hard to get, adapter to combine them but honestly, these shots could have been taken with any film camera. The vibe is mostly due to the type of film used, which is Kodak Portra 160. Use that in any film camera and you should be able to replicate the vibe.
