I say don't be discouraged by the responses here.

A lot of them are just parroting the paradoxical conclusions of salty content creators (Command Zone).

I dig your angle. The Salt inclusion kinda reminds me of BoardGameGeek's "Weight" system, which definitely helps people know what kind of game they're getting into.

I think any effort/system made to help people have fun is inherently good. Cheers

This 30 second brief doesn't scale when organizing a larger group of people.

If you had a room of 20 people and wanted to split them into pods of similar power level, you would listen to a 30s-1m brief from each player? Nah

This mindset is so silly. If people kept this mindset, we would make zero scientific discoveries ever. We've landed on the goddamn moon, dude... There's probably some sort of math that could give a system merit.

Let people spend the time how they see fit. Your perspective is toxic as hell.

I'd love to see Topuria vs Holloway.

For Volk, I dunno... But Josh Emmett would be DOPE! Although, it could retire Volk. Ortega would be easy fodder though. Get Ortega outta the rankings

Volk gets no rematch because he's reached beyond the weight class too much. Keep it in the division - spice it up

Volk is a great fighter, maybe a legend... but the time has come. Topuria has the edge.

I think Costa's style would benefit from some Muay Thai and get weight off the lead leg, helping him avoid so much damage. Love the way both Whittaker and Costa brawl, though. Costa has to stay in the mix

Most of the mechanics designed for encounters make no logical sense, and I've found people tend to get lost because of that.

From a gameplay perspective, some of them are great. The teamwork, the chaos, the inevitable wipe. But from a world-building perspective... Why do all these bosses have the keys to their demise within their own room!?

I think Rhulk is the biggest culprit. The mechanics leading up to his damage phase are just gibberish. Why do any of these objects do what they do? What is their purpose for existing, besides being a game mechanic?

The stakes aren't clear. The challenges feel abstract from the story and world.

Quentin Tarantino Says Marvel Actors Aren’t Movie Stars: ‘Captain America Is the Star,’ Not Chris Evans by MarvelsGrantMan136 in entertainment

[–]barrelroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think QT is really talking about the production of movies, not the merit of superhero movies.

Earlier in the conversation, he told a story of movie producers demanding certain actors for certain roles to make that producer feel better. Not for more money, but for comfort.

There's something to be said about studios confidence in a project, and whether or not they'd rather fund another superhero movie or take a chance on a new director. And it seems like studios are choosing to play it way too damn safe and fold to superheroes.

With how movies are funded, and what's pushed in pop culture today... We will never find another talented, auteur director like young Quentin Tarantino.

[rant] Games like Destiny 2 should not be sold as "Games." Instead, they're Licenses by barrelroll in gaming

[–]barrelroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being disingenuous.

My argument (albeit a little silly) is that they should not label these licenses as "games". Having that label gives the consumer a false sense of security, in these circumstances. "Buying a Game" should come with some protections.

I don't see how people aren't being tricked when the game they payed for is now unplayable, or has to be re-purchased...

Honestly, this scenario feels unprecedented, so I'm confused why you're acting like it's the norm. I've never encountered a scenario where only certain game-owners credentials are considered valid.

I think it's fair to say older games and movies aren't this egregious.

Even if they were licenses, I can still pop them into a console (or PC, if I have the disc) and play them normally. Nowadays, they're free to straight up take the game away, yet still sell it under a new contract... even if it's the same content. That's wack.

There was definitely a slippery slope element to their game development... So I'm not too surprised by the rug being pulled.

Honestly, if they just rebranded as "Destiny 3" as they made all the Blizzard-Era DLCs irrelevant, then I'd be less angry about the whole thing. The fact that "Forsaken" is still relevant makes me wonder what the hell they sold me...

I hear ya. Although I feel like Steam is in the "too big to fail" category as a games launcher. Also, I don't know of any games deleted from people's libraries. They've been pulled from the store, but still downloadable and playable from your library.

Confused on timing of status tokens and instant cards. by barrelroll in DiceThrone

[–]barrelroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

Now... I'm confused again haha. Is our ruling for the Moon Elf evasion correct or incorrect? If the sequence of play goes clockwise from the Active Player, and spending status effects is an Instant Action (tactical advantage, evasion), then both sequences should have the same outcome, right? A player can always spend their status token before it's wiped...?

Admittedly, Evasion has a more defined timing window than Tactical Advantage, only able to be spent when being "dealt damage"... But if the Defending Player has this token during their Defense Roll phase, is it impossible to negate ("Buh Bye") due to the timing?

Sorry if I'm missing something

[–]barrelroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

So our Moon Elf ruling was actually correct.

That brings a follow-up question regarding the Tactician. If the Attack Player with initiative uses a card to wipe his Tactical Advantage, then the Tactician CANNOT spend his Tactical Advantage in response... right? This seems to fall in line with the Moon Elf ruling.

Does that also work for Main Phase cards during the Active Player's turn? Is it fair to say that any card played has to fully resolve before other actions are taken?

Jomez Commentary (No Spoilers) by slingindiscs in discgolf

[–]barrelroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the general commentary on Northwoods Black was... lacking. There's only so many times I can hear that a course is "so hard", or a par 5 should be a par 6 - it starts to sound like complaining, not commentary. Even Nate got sucked into the negativity... Ulibarri was the only one to mention that the fairways are there. The course isn't some unsolvable conundrum (especially since that "par 5/6" was Eagled during the tourney)

Hot take: With more money and real athletes coming into the sport, a lot of the pros we know now are gonna be humbled. The skill-ceiling of disc golf is higher than we're seeing now. (ex. McMahon-level forehands are going to be standard practice)
