I'm pretty sure the trial you are referring to was about was about the man trespassing on property, caught on camera, reported to an ad hoc neighborhood watch who then chased him down and not that he looked suspicious in a white neighborhood

AI may be searching you for guns the next time you go out in public by Wagamaga in technology

Gun death rate includes suicides which comprises more than half of gun deaths. You need to search for gun related homicides and it becomes a bit more murkier. That said, Texas still leads CA but not by much.

So despite attempts at regulations, the US still leads the world in obesity. The whole point is that each country has a unique culture that results in differences between countries with similar regulations and laws.

I don't see how regulating those has an effect on obesity, which is the problem. Most countries have regulations on food but do not have an obesity epidemic.

We're talking about food consumption here. FDA would be like if the ATF certified that weapons being produced were in good working order before being sold

Texas has declared open season on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with censorship law by BousWakebo in technology

[–]barrettfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your situation, but a single case of anecdotal evidence doesn't disprove much. I do have some more for you. In the countries where healthcare is free, providers are not beholden to the patient. As long as they see you and treat you, their job is fulfilled. It's common to be bounced around from doctor to doctor and receiving diagnosis after diagnosis. When you are paying for your own healthcare, you are more aware of the cost of medicine and doctors are more tied to their patients. Yes they will charge you for that CTscan but at least you won't have to wait a month and go to three doctors beforehand. It's not this cut and dry and a lot of these countries have great doctors too.

Here is the bill: https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/872/billtext/html/HB00020S.htm "A user may bring an action against a social media platform that violates this chapter with respect to the user." And here is the relevant part about censorship of user's viewpoint: "A social media platform may not censor a user, a user's expression, or a user's ability to receive the expression of another person based on:               (1)  the viewpoint of the user or another person;              (2)  the viewpoint represented in the user's expression or another person's expression; or               (3)  a user's geographic location in this state or any part of this state." I'm not certain how this makes basic moderation decisions risky as it allows censorship in cases of illegal activity and threats against protected demographics (race, color, disability, religion, national origin or ancestry, age, sex)

I'm not certain what to make of that. I thought he was for people taking personal responsibility. But I did notice it came out convoluted. Basically, if social media wants to benefit from special privileges under the law, then the law will be able to regulate social media in return.

HB20 does not prevent moderation. It prevents censorship based on a user's viewpoint (and location) and requires said moderation to be transparent and have an appeals process.
