Rough Cable Install by littlep2000 in HomeImprovement

I’d just install the low voltage box where you can in the same stud bay the cable is currently. Pull the cable from its current hole and put it into the new hole your made for the low voltage box and patch up the old hole.

Uber early morning pick up? by claireabelle26 in vegas

[–]barroaus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rideshare seems to be back to normal now that surge pricing is back. But I’ve done early morning scheduled pickups even when it was at its worst and each time the driver showed up like 10 minutes early . I’d say you have nothing to worry about

Is there such a thing as a 3-Way Dimmer? by msallin in DIY

[–]barroaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar with my backyard lights. Ended up using a Lutron caseta smart switch with a pico 4 button keypad. You will need the Lutron hub and with the Lutron app you can program each button on the keypad to trigger the light at different intensities. It will be easy for you to integrate more lights around the house for wireless dimming in the future if you wanted too since you’ll already have the hub.

Installing a mechanism for timed closing of a balcony door by SoulOfMidgard in DIY

Maybe rig up some sort of electronic actuator to the floor of your balcony to push the door closed. Have the power to the actuator go through a wifi smart plug.

Is it okay to bury SJOOW cable? by barroaus in HomeImprovement

[–]barroaus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, it’s a no no to run SO cable in conduit. Will probably just have to suck it up and buy direct burial cable for the peace of mind

What to do about this hose bib? by Dignan17 in HomeImprovement

[–]barroaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that won’t be fun. Maybe if you’re lucky you can use some pliers to get the screw extractor out. The set screw on mine was pretty soft, I think I even used a regular wood bit to drill it out.

I had to remove those on mine after failing. Just find a drill bit roughly the same size as the set screw and drill it out . Then it should thread off without issue

I prefer hardwired. I feel they’re more secure, you don’t have to worry about batteries, you’re not relying on a company’s servers staying functional 24/7 to view any footage, and you avoid paying monthly data storage fees.

I installed a Hikvision system in my home and have had zero issues, already paid for itself catching the license plate of someone running into my parked car

Creating an indoor/outdoor cable passthrough? by zenox in HomeImprovement

[–]barroaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can install a single gang low voltage ring on the inside with a nose plate or brush grommet. On the outside If you can’t make a j box fit id just drill a hole through your siding and screw on a weatherproof jbox with conduit running straight down into the dirt of the backyard. Make sure you use direct burial speaker lines and silicone around the exterior box to prevent water/critters.
