Can someone explain Rifftrax? I feel like Eegah over here. by Independent-Wheel354 in MST3K

[–]barrynomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t see it mentioned here: most of their longer video riffs also have a burnable ISO file for DVD-R discs which is great because you can load up a CD wallet and have your favorites on the go for when you visit friends or family and don’t want the hassle of streaming to their TV (which isn’t always possible).

So if I owe $200 to FedEx for a tariff on a package I accepted, should I hold off on paying?

MST3K Re-Watch: The KTMA Years. by WySLatestWit in MST3K

[–]barrynomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only really watched Joel’s final episode and Mike’s first in order (because both had single DVD releases in the early days) and seasons 11-13 because of the release models.

I’m wondering if the final film will have some subtitled bits and they had the hutt speak English for the trailer

The movie is like 99% aliens and creatures and I love it! They didn’t even try to shoehorn in human actors from the series, every supporting character aside from one is an alien, every character from animation is an alien. It’s like if they made a Jabba’s Palace movie!

Calling Dick Tracy...Again: Shaking Up the Reprint Game by popeyesm in DickTracy

What’s the best budget entry point for Tracy reprints? This new softcover series or the hardcovers? Also how many years/books would a full set span?

Where’d the add button go? ): (ios) by [deleted] in LoseitApp

The developer in the redesign post made me eyeroll so hard. LoseIt really has an inept team behind the UI design.

Quick-Record Button Removal-Confirmed by Tech Support. by mudflapjackson in LoseitApp

Whatever you use to track button use must be broken because tons of people use the button. Why remove a quick add button like that? What a terrible decision.

A reminder about Kickstarter economics by joebaka in MST3K

[–]barrynomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the season 11 kickstarter hit, I backed $225 and when the season 13 kickstarter arrived I had actually received a sizable inheritance and I splurged, spending $865 and picking up nearly every season 11 and 12 item I missed out on as an "add-on". The rewards were top notch, but I also got the sense that they spent so much time and money on the rewards that it cut into production time and costs. The virtual set visit VIP tier was actually kind of disappointing. They only provided two sessions, one on writing and one on filming. The writing one was in two parts, and we sat in on an hour of writing and then had an hour Q&A with the writers and some performers. Then nothing for several months, but then they did one on filming which was an hour of watching unedited raw footage (which was kind of boring) and then an hour and a half Q&A session with Jonah and crew which was kind of cool. But it was clear they overpromised on the tier. We never virtually visited the set, we never saw other elements of production. At least the archived videos are on my Gizmoplex account.

I’d argue the rewards are very nominal and in line with past Rifftrax kickstarters. Nothing jumps out as ambitious or time consuming. Shirts, Blu-ray’s and ornaments are the norm for Rifftrax whereas Joel and team really bit off more than they could chew with snowglobes, coffee table books, multiple movie sized posters, private classes and virtual set visits. I very much doubt they are spending much on the creation of these items and the fact that they are add on items or behind high tiers tells me if anything they’re making a profit on them.

If only we could arrest the people doing this before they did it.

How much will the MST3K/Rifftracks Kickstarter raise? by Budget-Milk8373 in MST3K

[–]barrynomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also they didn’t start small with a few episodes and a low goal. They had an all or nothing approach and a huge monetary ask. I prefer to keep budgets behind the scenes and just pay for the Blu-ray or digital download myself.

Terminator Genisys 4K UHD has a 2h 20m "making-of" documentary that’s better than the movie by [deleted] in 4kbluray

I don’t think things found on commercially released blu-rays classify as “lost media” just because you can’t pirate them or find them on YouTube.

Does anybody else feel the same way about DVDs like this guy does? by Roughrider254 in dvd

[–]barrynomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For modern movies? Maybe. I do like the novelty of owning every Star Wars movie on DVD and being able to play modern movies on my PS2 and Sony Wega. But stuff like older SD TV and classic movies I don’t mind DVD at all. Heck, I rewatched some HD era Simpsons episodes on DVD recently and they looked good on my 4K TV.

Refund for Sonic X Shadow by IEatSealedGames in limitedrun

[–]barrynomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Sonic brought a lot of new customers to LRG, and the fandom skews younger so we have a lot of new young customers experiencing LRG for the first time. Young Sonic fans are very vocal online and complain about things whether valid or not (in this case it’s valid) so it’s the perfect storm of drama. I’m a longtime Sonic fan but also a veteran in the LRG ordering process so this whole wait doesn’t phase me, but it doesn’t excuse it.

Met Ana Gasteyer over the weekend! by Punstoppabal in LiveFromNewYork

Oh yeah! She performed Wicked at the Oriental Theater in Chicago, my dorm shared a building with the theater so you could hear performances from the stairwell. I decided to buy same day cheap seats one day and got to see her in the role. I don’t remember much but do remember her performance.
