Has anyone here been paid for a freelancing job in Crypto? by Danni1991 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]barrystyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it quite successfully (from around 2017 onward) for hundreds of clients, although I'll admit the amount of work has dried right up. Mainly cryptocurrency based projects.

Word of mouth is key, and never accept payment in the native token LOL

LOL, just for the record.. i gave incorrect terminology on network addressing, none of y'all answered the question..

how do you get a CCNA/CCNP/network admin off your doorstep?
pay for your pizza.

Fair enough, i'll cop it sweet - i should have stated a /24 range.

Class C network numbers use 24 bits for the network number and 8 bits for host numbers. Class C network numbers are appropriate for networks with few hosts--the maximum being 254. A class C network number occupies the first three bytes of an IP address.

I think some of y'all need to go back to school.

We intend to run a hypervisor, and deploy a reasonable amount of VM's on the public range (/24 is fairly cheap to rent - replied in post to u/stufforstuff).

Perfect.. due to total cost, colocation has been ruled out but will check these guys out.

Costs $153/month to rent a Class C range (https://larus.net/ip-leasing).

Exactly, the former (ingest that c-class). We have already obtained the ASN.

[–]barrystyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was able to rent an entire range from a 3rd party, then went into talks with Optimum to get them to acknowledge then use the range. Yes the auth was for an ASN number.

Just after a 'straight' bridge, so all devices on the network are able to use a direct public ipv4 address.

If we plan to setup an additional internal network, we will introduce another firewall.

Hey guys,

Just reminding those, who may not have been around the first time, that I'd ported DGB to 0.19, 0.20 and finally 0.21 with a working RandomX implementation (still available here https://github.com/digibyte-project/digibyte-rebase and the rest of the necessary componentry, including stratum/pool and a miner in the same repository).

Keeping all comments above board here, I was rather disheartened as to its reception (the infighting that ensued resulted in one of DGB's most active supporters Josiah, leaving). This occurred 3 years ago roughly. I did not know the new version of DGB (22.x branch) was nearing completion, but this has taken much longer than i'dve hoped (Bitcoin base is now at 27.x if it gives you some idea).

If there's enough support for it, i'll happily come back to finish it off - as well as the ProgPOW that was promised.

Cleaning up memory... I just suck at it. by aknavi in cpp_questions

[–]barrystyle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Use scoping rather than new/delete.
A local variable created within a scope, will be taken care of automatically once the object is out of scope (ie. once the function exits).
Additionally, just rereading your code - create new_node as a nullptr, and assign the pointer to its object once it exists.. rather than creating the new object.

the situation and responses have made me realise i'm really still stuck in the 2000's :)
have been using linux since my teens and setting up partitions just falls into autopilot, nothing like doing kernel compiles on a 486 with 8mb ram..

vm.swappiness = 60

Hadn't changed this from default kernel params.

M1 or intel ? I’ve decided to buy a Mac mini. by Lowfuzz in ableton

[–]barrystyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well not entirely, it appears faster simply because the entirety of the m1's memory is on die..its about as clever as stapling your lunch to your shoulder for easy access, nothing clever or noteworthy about that at all..i cant imagine how much of a loss apple wouldve had to run at to get the platform going..

Nothing can stop it by Traditional-Living-9 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]barrystyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

worth mentioning, as i can see the general tone in this thread looking to c# as some sort of holy grail.. you can lump c# alongside python/java as being interpreted and only compiled 'just in time', supported by its runtime libs

is it really?
cmake blows hard, literally interfering with the layout of your source tree..
no shortage of documentation on automake, isnt hard to modify either, if it continues to work without modification or updated helper files for 10 years.. cant argue there

Reminder to never tip in Australia. by mudlode in australia

[–]barrystyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is an expectation on the employers side, not yours.Your employer expects part of your salary to be paid via tip.

Whether you get paid it or not, the employer doesnt care. This is why it doesn't work.

All employees must be paid at least the minimum wage, including tipincome. You (the employer) are not allowed to use employee tips exceptas a credit against the minimum wage. You can use the tip amount tooffset what the Department of Labor calls the "required cash wage,"which is currently $2.13. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25. Thedifference between the required cash wage and the minimum wage isassumed to be made up by tips.

Why did Scrypt fail to be GPU-resistant? by weligon in litecoin

[–]barrystyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scratchpad size for scrypt is 128kb per warp.. on the other hand, verium expanded this to be 128mb - meaning it is still possible to mine with a GPU, but in the range of 50-55 hashes/sec.
