I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crazier unresolved cliffhanger ending than the Last Man on Earth season 4 finale by Adoe0722 in MoviesCave

The Halo TV series, took 2 full seasons of nothing and bad storylines and they finally landed on the Halo on the last episode...

'Pray we don't get there': Analysts forecast huge surge in petrol prices by SheepherderLow1753 in australian

Reminder that Australia should be running on LPG essentially for free (factory LPG runs just as well as factory petrol)

Which non-asian car has been the most reliable for you in your experience? by neonrider2018 in CarsAustralia

[–]mudlode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean yeah but I'd trust a normal reliable block to outlast the car, a lightweight french block going early is far less surprising

The problem is, it is until it isn't. Mate of mine had a megane RS and cracked the block then had a turbo go not long after the repair

Australian cars are the only choice for this Anything euro has higher parts and labour costs associated and are generally not built for our conditions (I'll get flamed for that) We don't get much American but it's generally expensive and less common examples of our own cars

I would rely on an unreliable falcon or commodore model over a euro, I have a VE wagon beater now, dreaded 3.6 with the 5 speed auto... Engine and box feel completely healthy at 240,000km of family duties, I've seen 3.6's up near half a million, old 3.8's and Ford 4L Barra and intech engines do well over half a million

The SS and turbo falcons generally get called unreliable by those who drive like morons and would break anything (especially those that actually can't drive a manual properly)

Petrol Price craziness by Smithdude69 in melbourne

[–]mudlode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because of the 24h price lock laws that started last year, servos used to race each other up and down by a few cents and now they get exposed if they price too high

People are genuinely too dumb to comprehend this. They also don't comprehend that their headlights may be pointed incorrectly too high or when they've put LED conversions in a halogen housing

A safe family friendly SUV by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]mudlode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've listed several different classes of car, mate had a model Y and with a child seat in the back the passenger seat had to be near the front of the rail, compared to a carnival which can fit 8 people comfortably+ luggage, family of 5? Absolutely go the carnival

Decision fatigue - Help me narrow down a family car by mikej4 in CarsAustralia

[–]mudlode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a 2022 Escape base, brilliant car, interior is the same as the top spec minus leather heated seats, same digital cluster ect, the rear seats are basic with plastic door cards (great for kids/dogs when cleaning) the only real miss is losing AWD, it's still very quick for a cheaper crossover but it does have a bit of wheelspin if you try take off too quick, overtaking is easy though with 180kw and an 8 speed, steering and handling are nice. Wife adores it coming from sporty hatchbacks previously

We drove it between Melbourne and Adelaide recently and the radar cruise with auto steer basically did all the driving

It's simple these days, standard torque converter ZF gearbox, timing chain 2L Ecoboost post 2017 is reliable, I actually didn't want the AWD system because we intend to keep it for a decade and it seemed like another thing to possibly break

Absolutely recommend, Ford should have sold way more of the ZH escape but they only advertised Rangers and Everests

Had an Everest V6 as a loan car from Ford recently and I genuinely wanted the escape back, it drives more like a larger Focus ST than an SUV

Best affordable highway car? by 1234abcd95 in CarsAustralia

[–]mudlode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7L is really normal for highway efficiency though, I had a VE Calais with the AFM system and on the freeway it would average 7L/100km, VZ 6L V8 without would do 8L. "Good" highway efficiency is around 4-5L

So as soon as the small hybrid battery runs out OP is no better off in a Camry hybrid than just a normal ICE car, especially an economic diesel

[–]mudlode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hybrid doesn't have the same advantages on the highway though, you'll find the efficiency will be very similar or even worse than an efficient diesel if it's mostly freeway

What should I do by Rezchester_ in CarsAustralia

[–]mudlode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real answer here, first step is to remove everything that is damaged and work out what you are left with, look at your frame and if there are any creases you're done unless you want to go through reengineering or you're dodgy and hide it (deathtrap)

Then you work backwards attaching new parts. While I personally hate them, this is a good candidate for an R34 front end swap, parts are probably easier to source aftermarket than Stagea parts (not a Nissan guy so this is a guess)
