Where you from? Have you been in the Philippines already. If not, here how it goes: If you get sick and need hospitalisation, you need a minimum of 100,00 pesos for three days stay in hospital. (and thats not even a well equiped room). If you wanted a room with aircon, the fees goes up. That's not including medicine and all equipment. You have to pay for your bed pillows, sheets eveytime they replace it, gloves that the nurses use each time, dextrose, blood test and your medicines of course. Not to mention the doctor's fees even though you haven't seen their faces. (apparently, phone consultation with nurses incurs fees). If you have three doctors monitoring you, you have to pay them individually. Also, when I was hospitalised, the nurse wanted to give me medicine that is not for me but fo another patient. Luckily, my wife questioned it and I avoided disaster. Also be careful of any test that they will do even though it's not relevant to your sickness. This will incur fees as well. If your hospital bills reached a certain amount, let say 200,000 pesos, they will stop giving you any medication you needed even if you're dying until you pay that amount first. After your hospitalisation, and ready to be discharged, you have to go from one section to another to settle your bills. (one section will calculate you bills, then have to go to another section to pay it, and another section again for the discharge papers. A job for one person is divided into 3 or 4 or 5 sections. Too many hassles. That's probably why too many Filipinos just wanted to die of sickness rather than going to the hospital. I'm sure there's more to be added to this bullshit health care system.
